is this a virus - how can I stop these amazing amazon discount offers from spreediscount.com? It looks like a phishing pop up to me and it pops up and removes my history so I can’t back out of it.

Check to see if Safari is syncing to iCloud.

1. go to settings

2. click on your name

3. click on iCloud

4. A list of apps using iCloud will show up. If Safari is checked, unclick it (turn it off).

5. Clear your browser history as described in previous posts

I’ve has this issue on my iPad for about a week on eBay I cleared the website history. It came back. I did a factory reset. It came back. I kept redoing this because it at least was a temporary fix.

This morning, while in Safari, I clicked on the ”layer” icon which shows all the tabs that are open. I noticed a list of sites below the tabs. I hadn’t seen this before. I looked closely and the only thing listed was the spree discount stuff. Above the list was a line. Above the line was a cloud icon, which made me wonder if it was being downloaded from an iCloud backup, which I thought I had turned off all uses of. Apparently not. Safari was set up to sync with iCloud, which apparently had a backup that was syncing to my iPad. I deleted the backup in the iCloud and turned off Safari using iCloud. Since I did that, it hasn’t come back.

I looked over my notes and see I forget to include to enable JavaScrip. I will repost the steps with correction. I have been Spee free for five days LOL. Also it’s important to copy and past when adding link to block list.

Apple Virus Updated 9/16/15

Spent a week on this issue and I think I finally found the answer. Just follow these steps:

  1. Copy spree discount link.
  2. Close Safari.
  3. Go to settings and select safari and make sure the following features are turned on.

Block Pop up.

Prevent cross tracking.

Ask website not to track me.

Fraudulent website warning.

  1. Back up To iCloud (Not really necessary) but you never know.
  2. Clear history and website date.
  3. Go to advance settings in safari.
  4. Turn on/Select JavaScript.
  5. Click website date click view all and delete.
  6. Now go to General in setting and turn on restrictions. Note you must create a 4 digit PW for it (Don’t forget it!). Year of birth will do.
  7. Select website then chose limit adult content.
  8. Then scroll down to “never allow” and click add a website and enter spree discounts website address. It is BEST to copy and past the link to make sure you have it correct). Then save.
  9. Finally just for good measure I would do a hard reset (Power & Home).
  10. GONE!

I did not do anything with the iCloud backup settings like others suggested and my settings were similar to what Moe suggested when SpreeDiscount started to redirect so I knew that wouldn’t resolve things.

Installing the free SiteBlocker app got me to the point I think you are at now where it still redirects to a blank page not the ads. To stop the redirect, I installed the free Norton Ad Blocker app. I have not had any problems with the redirects in almost a month since installing those apps.
