Measure App not working in iPhone 6

Today I have updated my iPhone to iOS 12. One of the new of app Measure is not available in my device.

When I searched on app store, it says, 'This app requires specific features not available on this device'.

As communicated iOS 12 features will work from iPhone 5. Please let me know the problem and solution.

I was able to get the Measure app somewhat to work on iPhone6, but can't reproduce it right now.

What did I do ?

There was no icon for the app anywhere. In Spotlight Search, it offered me to Open it in the App Store where it said "feature not available on this device". Fine.

Next I went to Settings / General / iPhone Storage, and found Measure listed. I offloaded the app, and suddenly had the app icon with the cloud symbol. I tapped the icon, and like with any other app, it went through "waiting", "loading" and "installing", except for that at the end, poof, the icon vanished. At some point then, I was able to see the app in Spotlight search, as installed app. When launched, I had a grey-white screen with two tabs, "Measure" and "Level". Tapped on "Level", and there I had the Level functionality back. I tried to kill the app (double tap on home button, and swipe up), but instead of a smaller image, the home screen just dimmed. I was able to repeat everything, from launching the app, to at least using Level. Next I restarted my phone, and in Spotlight Search, it now only offered me again to open the app in the app store. This time, offloading and reinstalling the app, didn't allow me again to use the app, but just opening it in the app store.

So many articles out there which go through all the features of ios 12, but nowhere have I seen one which tells you what is NOT available on an iPhone 6. How many man hours have been lost to all those iPhone 6 users, trying to use features which Apple omitted to make loud and clear would not work on an iPhone 6 under ios 12. Instead you have to search through forums to get this information. As has been said many times before, Apple make great communications technology, but are not actually all that good at communicating to their user base.

I don't believe all surfaces can be measured, I see a similar behaviour on my X when trying to lock onto some vertical objects, yet when I pan down to say the carpet, the circle with the dot appears and the "plus" then highlights so you can add your first coordinate (ie. "Add a point").

While moving around to get that first point various prompts should appear, "Find a nearby surface to measure", a flat square with "Move iPhone to Start" ,a 3D box with "Continue to move iPhone", when it gets to a suitable surface a circle with a dot appears and the "plus" button then highlights. While you continue to see the circle/dot you can add additional points to create "lines" for measurement, once done the right hand button allows an image to be captured of the progress which is stored under Photos.

With regards to the level, that has to be "tapped" to select, once done you can then place your device on a suitable surface to measure (either edge on to display "line" and degree angle or flat to show "two circles" and degree angle).

Anyhow, that's how my X with the Measurement App appears to function.

Hope the above helps.

Thank you. That worked. Compass and level now working OK.

All I need now is to get the Health App tracking my steps again!

No problem, happy you got that part sorted, with respect to “Steps” in the Health App, I had a quick look at my X and on initial opening only had one element showing, namely I had climbed 1 stair, although I had just come back from walking the dog a couple of miles!

I tapped the previous day and all three where showing, so went back to today and it repopulated to now show all three again, ie. distance, climb and steps. So yours might still be recording but updating could be a little slow for some reason, may be going back and forward between the dates might kick start it going.

If the “Update” didn't work you have only a full “Restore” left (that replaces the iOS and all data, as long as you don’t use a BackUp), but if it’s a ‘bug” you will require Apple to resolve and it might be useful for you to submit feedback or file a bug report

It’s hard to say where the issue actually lies at the moment until a few more start posting there results, not sure what else to suggest.

I regard this as very poor communication by Apple. My iPhone 6 gets exactly the same 'rah-rah' announcements as my later devices and I saw no mention of this limitation. What is the point of offering a 'wonderful new app' and it is very useful one, when in fact the app doesn't work on the device receiving the 'wonderful' news.

You can't be serious? Your phone was introduced now almost 5 years ago. In cell phone life, that's a LONG time ago. If your phone could handle the Measure App, Apple would have given it to you, but like many of the newer features in the new iPhone's your phone won't get it. If you want the newer features, you should probably get a newer phone.

When you car manufacturer adds a feature, like a more powerful engine to a newer generation car, do you expect them to retroactively update your car? Of course you don't.
