You could wait for Apple to release a new build, but reading around it seems that if you have your iPhone connected and unlocked and reinstall iTunes 12.8 then your Mac may offer to install an additional update to work with the iOS 12 device.

I have run into a similar issue, too. After updating to IOS 12, my iPhone X no longer connects to iTunes 12.8. I am running OS X 10.10.5 Yosemite.

When connecting the phone to the computer, the following message pops up in iTunes:

"To use your iPhone with iTunes, you need to install OS X 10.11.4 (or later)."

I cannot find an option on the App Store to update to OS X 10.11.4.

I have the same problem with my iPad running IOS12. When connecting I'm asked do download software but when I try I get a message the software isn't available on the server. I contacted apple support and was told I have to wait and upgrade to Mojave tomorrow which contains an updated iTunes. Although I can upgrade my machine I wasn't planning to until, at least, the first service update was released. Also not much help for those machines that can't be updated.

And this is good enough for a user??? download more software........Maybe it should just work the first time!

absolute rubbish!

It originally updated to version 12.9.0.167 x64 and it is that is not finding my phone on my windows 10 pc

the link you gave me sends me to the same Itunes download to get the exact same. We don't all have a mac!

Garbage! So sacking apple off as they only care about money!

This has been mind boggling how this has been handled by Apple. First, I was assured when I called Apple multiple times that itunes 12.8 has IOS 12 support even though that I pointed out that itunes 12.8 never claimed to have it. (I also mentioned itunes 12.9 for Windows was released with IOS 12 support and nothing has come out so far for Mac users with that support.) They still insisted I would have no problems. Thank god I did not listen to those bozos and held off on installing IOS 12.

It makes ZERO sense to release itunes 12.9 with IOS 12 support for Windows users, yet leave people that use Macs in the dark. EVERY other year before this one, Apple has always released an itunes update for BOTH Windows and Macs days before a new IOS was to be released. Why in the world did they not do that this year? How does Apple release IOS 12, yet do not offer the latest itunes 12.9 software that supports it? Why do mac users have to go through this BS just so itunes can maybe or maybe not detect their phones after IOS 12 is installed? Unbelievable how Apple treats their customers and continues to get away with it. This is inexcusable.

I have absolutely no idea. I have read from your prior posts that Apple has told you today but so far there is nothing. It should have been released the day it was released for Windows. What is going on is inexcusable. Why do Mac users have to go through all these unnecessary steps to get itunes support, while an update came out for Windows users? I thought Apple was all about the "user experience."

Thanks for all your help regarding this issue. Apple should really be compensating you for assisting everyone since they actually pay morons who are completely incompetent and useless. People have gotten more help from you in a minute than spending an hour on the phone from someone with Apple. I almost feel like every time I call I am educating them. I guess it just made too much sense to release a Mac update for users on the same day they released one for Windows. Maybe they figured their customers enjoy going through this crap.

Wow -- so is Apple forcing everyone to install Mojave in order to get itunes 12.9? Even if you have High Sierra, Apple is basically telling their customers install are very latest, coolest software or you are out of luck? What if my Mac does not support Mojave? High Sierra is no longer recent enough to get the latest version of itunes? So apple is basically telling mac users too bad that itunes no longer recognizes your phone. Install are latest software or else?

It does rather look that way. 😟

iTunes.
Now included in macOS Mojave.

The latest version of iTunes now comes installed with macOS Mojave. Upgrade today to get your favorite music, movies, TV shows, and podcasts. iTunes is also where you can join Apple Music and stream — or download and play offline — over 50 million songs, ad‑free.

You can always download iTunes 12.8 for previous versions of macOS, as well as the application for Windows.

Not entirely encouraging. 😕

What worked for me is to install iOS 12.6.5, then when I tried to open it, it said it could't because there was a file that was installed by a newer version of iTunes (12.8). After I reinstalled 12.8, it recognized my iPod and everything is good. I thought my old hardware was finally hitting a dead end. (mid 2009 Macbook Pro)

I have an iphone 6, installed ISO 12, then upgraded my 2015 macbook pro to High Sierra. At that point Itunes no longer recognised or synced with my iphone. Instead it displays the message:

"iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. Could not allocate a resource."

I have been following the progress of this thread, waiting patiently for Itunes 12.9. I downloaded and installed mojave but itunes still seems to be 12.8.0.150 and still refuses to recognise/ sync and displays the same message. Is there any way out of this problem? Does mojave really contain itunes 12.9???

I've tried that and re booting the ipad

Tried the apple online help but they were useless when the conversation got tricky I was disconnected.

One suggestion was re install Itunes 12.8 When I told him I had that before and it wouldn't work, he suggested reinstalling OS 10.14. When I replied that the problem started when I upgraded to iPad to IOS 12 not when I upgraded to OS11, I was disconnected

Trying to reconnect with the same case ref was bounced to asking to call 'with the foot note that I may have to pay for the service.
