Buying a photo book.

I can't get the "buy" button to activate when trying to buy a photo book in Photos. Photos is asking me to download a project extension from the App Store. I don't know what that is.

Mac Pro, macOS Sierra (10.12)

It is too late now. Apple stopped the printing service for books and other print products. The last orders had to be placed by September 30.

To order books directly from Photos you need now third party projects extension, and these require an upgrade to Photos 3.0 on High Sierra or Photos 4.0 on Mojave.

If you do not want to upgrade your Mac past macOS 10.12 Sierra, save your book as a PDF file and send it for printing to a different service.

Presto Photo can print books similar to the Apple books from PDF files you upload.

To create a PDF file of your book see: Preview a print project in Photos or iPhoto to avoid issues - Apple Support

Create and order print products in Photos with Project Extension

In Photos 4.0 on Mojave all tools to create native Apple print products (Cards, books, Calendars) have been completely removed. If you like to create PDFs of books, do not upgrade past Photos 3.0 and High Sierra.

I just wanted to say a big thank you to Leonie for her advice in reply to curt 97 to use Presto Photos for purchasing a photo book using a PDF copy. I was just about to have an internal meltdown, after completing a month's worth of work on my book, to discover that I could not purchase it through apple. The reason being that my Macbook (2009) running on OSX El Capitan could not be updated to Sierra or the latest OS. This also meant that I could not update to the latest 'Photos' suite which was required for the purchase of my book. Leonie's suggestion was a lifesaver and the book is now ordered and being processed. Thank you so much!

I certainly will. It will be a pleasure to help anyone with a similar problem. My book is not due to arrive for 2-8 weeks, as I selected the cheapest postage. The process with Presto Photos was pretty straightforward & simple. It was such a relief! My only criticism would be the price of postage. The cheapest was about £12 (super saver/delivery in 2-8 weeks), then it jumped to around £28 & right up to around £40 something. There were only 2 postage options that were less than the price of the book itself. The rest were over & above. Still, as I can no longer purchase from apple, it was the best alternative & I'm really grateful. I just hope it arrives in time for my very special occasion.

I would recommend Saal books and bobbooks uk if you are in the UK for photo books. The freight for bobbooks is onky 4.99gbp and Saal books is similar. The software, once you have learnt it, is much better than Apple photobook software was. I ordered a book recently and it takes around 10 days to reach New Zealand from the UK. I like their lie flat books.
