Samsung Portable SSD T5 not recgonized on Macbook

Yesterday I bought a Samsung Portable SSD T5 for my Macbook. At first everything was working fine and I uploaded all of my files and then I made the mistake of updating the SamsungPortableSSD software. Now every time I plug in the hard drive the software launches and says "No Samsung Portable SSD is connected." I've plugged the hard drive into other computers (a windows pc) and it works fine. It's just on my mac that it isn't registering. I think it's because of the updated software but I'm not 100% sure. It was working fine before I updated it.

I've also tried erasing the drive on my mac but it says it isn't compatible and can't erase. I also can't seem to uninstall the SamsungPortableSSD software (and then just re-downloading it), and I feel like that would be a viable solution, just can't seem to work it out.

If anyone knows anything I could possibly do to fix this, I'd really appreciate it. Thank you :)

Absolutely! Here's what I did. In a Finder window, click "go" in the toolbar and then "go to folder" and type in this -> "~/Library/Application/Support/PortableSSD" (or just copy and paste!). From there, there should be something labelled either "CleanupAll.scpt" or CleanupPSSD.scpt" that's the code you need to run. Hope this helps! It took quite a bit of scouting for me to find this solution, so let me know if you need any other help. My drive now works perfectly. Hope it works for you, too! :)

I have done everything in this thread a few times now and I'm still not able to get Mojave and SSD software to load without saying it is disconnected. I was able to get it working on an old mac running high sierra but no luck with Mojave. _bburr were you running Mojave as well? Also, what version of the Samsung SSD software were you running to get it to work. Ive been keeping an eye out for the "allow" button in security and privacy but nothing has shown up. Are there any other helpful tricks to figure this out?

I have been trying both because i have not been able to get either working. I just was on 1.6.2.35 which came with the drive, and it wasn't working for me. I have since updated to 1.6.4 to test, and that doesn't work either. Im happy to run the clean up script again, but I've done this plenty of times this morning with the same result.

Does 1.62.35 not work either? If not, I'll see is an even older version is available.

BTW, the last time i updated the ssd software I got this message, "System Extension Blocked A program tried to load one or more system extensions that are incompatible with this version of macOS. Please contact “Samsung Electronics” for support." I've assumed this is the same issue Ive been trying to work around though.

try pasting this, ~Library/application support/ , in there to get to the application folder then just scroll to through the folders and look for anything called "portablessd" maybe Samsung. if you cant find the folder i dont believe you ever had it installed.

As far as Samsung, Maybe just email them back and request a installation copy of portableSSD v 1.6.2

I explained to them that I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled the software and have tried both the updated and non updated version of the software that came on my drive.

OR

you can download the software from the Australian site as well, Version 1.6.2 that is. I found this at the same time I got an email back.

Good luck!

I found a fix for this frustrating problem. You may go to the samsung.com website and locate the following download. It apparently comes from an Australian website. After downloading this software all I had to do was click on the Samsung SSD application and the password window came right up. Entered my already established password and the device worked just fine.

DO NOT INSTALL THE UPDATES - (2) listed at this writing - or the problem will reoccur.

Hi I was facing exactly the same issue. Actually this is because some how the Samsung App do not uninstall when we remove or delete the package unlike other apps of Apple. In my case when I installed the software, I defined my own location for installing package and not the default one. So, I choose and deleted or uninstall the app specifically going to that location. However, that too did not worked. Finally I have to empty the recycle bin, though I do not want to do so. Still it only partly solved the problem. After trying to install it complains that the higher version of package already exists.

Further, I did the following and it fixed:

Follow this. (1) : Reinstall the Latest update back again.

(2) Next follow this steps : Goto this page : https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/4540941/posts/405

It's very long to write all the steps here. so I mentioned in a blog. For anything else related to the same issue you can come back here and read comments by some of the people you will find and is sufficient. Hopefully following those steps you wont have to.

Good Luck

I do not completely agree Daforene, I went through details on Firevault ... it is completely to protect MacBook internal data from external (like internet data breaching ) access.

Read: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/FileVault

Only probability could be when someone last time encrypt data of external SSD via Firevault, and later Samsung software, PortableSSD, failed to understand or read the disk.

In your case, I guess when you uninstall and reinstall PortableSSD you got the access. Moreover, if you run uninstall from a command line and read the uninstalling messages that appear during uninstallation some of the MacBook preinstalled drivers to access external drive also uninstall (I suspect these are new IOS update / new Samsung app drivers) and removed along with it; and when you reinstall the app these drivers also installed ( old drivers) via Samsung old app which means those ports got reconfigured which give access to Samsung drive.

Further, if you say me you installed the latest version 6.4 or later but it fix than also when you uninstalled last time, the preloaded drivers get removed and Samsung compatible driver would be overwriting the apple iOS drivers.

(though this might not be fixing the problem else by default SSD app update should have worked).

And, May be if I am right these are the executables on which, Samsung has to work on to configure compatibility with latest updated IOS versions and to avoid such issues recurring in future too.

Thanks.

Hi Inorton,

First thing do not format you hard drive and do not repeatedly connect and disconnect the disk. This might risk damaging disk or data loss. Just remember nothing is wrong to your hard disk, unless physical TTL logic is damaged.

Now, coming back to this issue...

1) No need to connect your hard disk just keep it aside first...( because I suspect Mac is accessing app from within the SSD)

2) you may or may not have updated/replaced the preinstalled available package which comes with new inside SSD )

3) I had faced the same issue.... and it cannot install complaining already latest update is available..

4) I have to completely empty the Recycle bin. Don’t select and delete files, choose option empty recycle bin. I tried making backup of Recycle bin in new folder and even filtering all Samsung driver files and removed From MacBook completely but it doesn’t overcome the error message to stop appearing.. so you have remove all files from MacBook Pro. ( 5) You have to restart the MacBook after that. Because I feel like Linux IOS keep historical executable file in temporary or in swap file system even after removing... and once you restart system it throw them from virtual buffer memory.

6) Later, I again reinstalled the latest updated version of Samsung PortableSSD app, by which I could able to see again the uninstall script of Samsung (cleanup.scpt) .

7) After that follow the uninstallation as mentioned by other people here. Or for step by step procedure you can access my wordpress blog Link I shared in one of my previous reply.

if You are not able to find file CleanupAll.scpt. and it fails to install old version further, complains that upgraded version is already installed. Try this.

1)Delete the folder PortableSSD and reinstall the latest updated version. Empty recycle bin/Trash

2) Goto ( you cannot see this folder graphically) : <U is capital>

cd /Users/<your logged in username>/Library/Application\<space>Support/PortableSSD/

ls <enter>

3)your logged in username should be the same name as you see while login and preferably match the account using which the last time app was installed.
