After installing Catalina, it asks me to update my Apple ID settings. I put in my password, and then it asks for my Mac password, which I give it. Then after a few minutes the message pops back up again. Happens on both my Macbook and iMac.
Logging in and out didn't help on my MacBook, there is too much to delete/re-add for me to want to try it on my iMac.

Had the same problem. in my case it had to do with saving my keychain to iCloud. Click on System Settings, then Apple ID at the top then choose iCloud. It will show what is using iCloud scroll down and choose Keychain. you may have to enter your Apple ID and your computer password a couple times. keep on following the prompts.

I did that many times. Failed every time and still getting nagging prompts. I checked keychain access and for some reason it keeps unchecking everyday.

Grr too annoying. Throws up a prompt that won't go away unless I reenter. Is happening at least once a day at this point.
Same problem for me and already changed my password to a strong one and did the Keychain business two dozen times at least... nothing works. Wondering when Apple is going to address this?
None of the solutions solved the issue. The iCloud keeps unchecking keychain access every midnight.

I have the same issue, if I shutdown the iMac and leave it for a few hours it reloads fine but then the issue comes back
That would not work if you had purchases and subscriptions tied to your original ID. I would say that is an absolute last resort
I had exactly the same problems you are describing here. I must have entered my Apple ID password and my Admin password to my MacBook Pro at least 20 times. I checked Keychain but every time it would disconnect. I turned my Mac off during the night and the following morning I went to enter the passwords again. Right after entering them for like the third time, it asked me for the passcode I use to unlock my iPad which I introduced. After waiting for perhaps half an hour I could not quit the system preference app and had to force quit it. That did the job!! That was yesterday and all seems well since then. Keychain is now checked and the iCloud setting is not asking for my passwords any more.
I kept trying because I did not want to change my Apple ID password and I did not want to sign out of iCloud as it would be a hassle to get all my data back on my Mac without duplicates. My advice to those with this issue is just keep trying and it might eventually be OK. I also signed in to the Mac store and Apple Music which I had not done since the update to Catalina before the issue was fixed.

Looks like they may have fixed on the back-end whatever the issue was. After a restart this morning, I was able to go back to the Apple ID setting, enter my Apple ID password, wait wait wait, enter my Mac password, wait wait, then it prompted for my my iPad unlock passcode. I did not have to reset keychain or change my apple ID password or anything.
