At first I thought it was the case because it had no holes at the bottom, so it was covering the speaker and mic, but even without it there would be an echo. So I took my phone during the week of purchase to T-Mobile and the manager was not helpful at all. He kept telling me it’s normal, it happens sometimes, it’s a network problem, the phone is not defective. But he told me my only options were to send it to Apple or Get a different one with my insurance. He didn’t even try to help, nor touched my phone at all!

The closest Apple store to my town is 2 hrs away, so I took it to the Geek Squad at Best Buy instead. They checked my phone and even though I saw the screen showed “issues found” they said the phone was working properly, but they could send it out to Apple to have it checked and it would take about a week. I work from my phone, so I can’t afford to be without it for a week. It was very frustrating because until this day, there is no solution to this problem online.

I finally visited an Apple Store and thank God the associate knew what he was doing! He took my phone for a few minutes, came back and told me there were no problems with the device, but he had me reset my network settings. IT FIXED THE ISSUE! I can’t believe it was that simple and no one could help me before. I almost purchased a new phone.

It has been months since that day and just a few days ago the echo came back, but it went away by resetting the network settings again.

Before you waste more money on another phone or your time waiting for them to fix your phone, TRY RESETTING YOUR NETWORK SETTINGS.

I follow the discussion because it happens to me as well with my iPhone 11 Pro Max.

It seems the problem happens whenever the speakers are used with a registration process (regular calls, facetime calls, etc)

Apple support chat asked to do some tests:

I tried removing my case, didn’t work.

I tried rebooting it, didn’t work.

I tried to record a video, microphone works normal

I tried to record a memo, works normal

I’m having the SAME problem. It only happens when I call my friend who also has an iPhone 11. It happens when on speaker and when not using speaker. My voice echos and lags and it’s hard to hear each other and is very fuzzy. Then it sounds like waves or like someone else rustling around on the phone. It’s really inconvenient and I can’t find anything online about it or how to resolve.

As I’m reading this it tells me that there is a flaw within Apple’s system during manufacturing.

I just making sure I understand. I’m paying for a phone monthly. You turn in your old phone to “UPGRADE” and you get a phone that feel, sounds and looks like iPhone 4. Not acceptable to me. Apple has a problem that’s known about internally since after creation but yet still selling bad products, I just bought this phone 3weeks ago. Honestly I don’t have the time or skill to try and be a technician on phone. I’ve been trying to fix since I got it. I Can’t use FaceTime

because I can’t talk without echo listen because I’m playing kitchen technician with volume buttons so I can here my 2 yr old grand daughter say something.

Going to store to continually get the same diagnostic test is a joke.

From a very Faithul IPhone user I’m hurt 😞. I had great expectations, but I’m let down. Since I walked out of store like a little kid with a new toy, I’ve tried to return and get my iPhone 8plus back. I can’t even return this horrible over priced toy. To say I’m disappointed is not quite enough. Since I see so many others people having same problems. You guys should have had a recall to fix problem.

Aren’t your loyal customers worth it ?

Have the same exact issue on my 11 max pro, took it to apple and they said it’s a problem with my service provider , had the same exact service provider and live in the same location a few months ago and I phone c had no problem at all, it’s sad that I dyed of owning up to this problem with the phone, the people at the Genius Bar trick you and convince you to believe that it’s a problem at my end ! Didn’t expect this from apple !!

I have the same echo problem. It doesn’t matter if I have my case on the phone or off the phone, it still echos. When my Daughter FaceTimes me is when it echos so bad I have to get off the phone. iPhones seen to be notorious for this problem. I’ve always had an iPhone and this has been a Huge problem. But the iPhone 11 is the worst With the echo problem. I will be bringing this iPhone back to Apple to be fixed or replaced.

Thank you, William, for this clarification, it's helpful. I don't mean to sound like a jerk about this, and I apologize if I'm coming off a bit testy, but it's been a frustrating experience and some of us have been getting the runaround from Apple and on forums.

To reiterate:

  • The issues I've been describing are taking place on iPhone 11's. No Max's among them, but some are Pros.

  • The issues I've been describing are taking place on iPhones running Apple's most up-to-date version of IOS, which was 13.3.1, but now I have sent word out to clients, friends and colleagues to immediately upgrade to 13.4, which has just been released, in hopes that this might help. Fingers crossed

  • I dont agree with the supposition that if it's a hardware defect, no one's phone would work, as there are plenty of examples throughout Apple's history of variables amongst batches of manufactured devices - these can be based on location, exact part specs, minor engineering changes over time, etc

  • I can understand why you might feel strongly, having had a software upgrade fully alleviate a serious problem that had rendered your iPhone 11 Pro Max unusable. But others are not experiencing the solution - that doesn't make the rest of us obstinate, crazy, or incapable of managing a simple software upgrade

  • Put simply, that solution is NOT WORKING for some users.

  • Let's all cross fingers that IOS 13.4 brings answers

In this absolutely unprecedented world crisis, more than ever, we are all depending on intercommunication via mobile devices as the lifelines for our businesses and personal lives. Let's hope Apple can find a way to make sure that spending $700.00 to $1,000.00 on a mobile device doesn't result in one where one can't have a simple conversation.

Thanks
