Cannot Sign-in to Music and TV App after Catalina 10.15.1

Hi All, I tried to sign into Music and the new TV app on my Mac and I don't seem to be able to get in. I get two different error messages could not connect to the iTunes Store "unknown error (1001)" and "unknown error (11556) make sure your connection is active? Does anyone else have this issue or tips on how to solve it? 😊

Hi all

Finally found solution without deleting your account. Thanks to Serge Rosenthaler for his reply on another post.

1) sign out of iCloud on your Mac

2) Open Terminal & use the following commands:

sudo -v

***Enter Your Mac Password***

killall -9 accountsd com.apple.iCloudHelper

rm -rf ~/Library/Accounts

killall -9 accountsd com.apple.iCloudHelper

3) restart your Mac

4) Open Music App & sign in to your account (You should sign in to your account)

5) Check your TV & Podcast Apps (You should sign in to your account)

6) Open System Preferences & go to iCloud (You should sign in to your account) just activate iCloud Drive

The post contain solution

I spent three hours with Apple Support last Sunday trying to get a resolution. It was the first time I've ever had to log a support call as I can usually sort out a problem myself. The issue was passed to three operators until I finally got a phone call. The operator was civil and pleasant but we couldn't resolve the issue. All he could tell me was that the bug had been noted by Apple and a resolution would probably be bundled into the next Catalina update. After the call I searched and found the solution that Serge has posted here [https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250829294]. My experience of the migration to Catalina has been a bit of a hot mess tbh.

I guess the only option is to wait for a release of Catalina small update.

On chat with apple I only wasted time. Either go back to Mojave or wait for an update, the only thing we can do is let them know the issue is here and post these comments so they know it's a priority for that system.

I did not have the same issue when I went through Mojave to Catalina Beta, beta had it's own issues (Google Drive didn't work, other software had some small issue). But then again, installing public release of Catalina from scratch, leads to problems for Music and TV.

Have managed to recover Apple Music on 10.15.1. on my MacBook Air.

Ended up re-installing the whole OS which is time-consuming on my slow 6Mb internet.

Anyway got there in the end, but noticed it is crucial to get the whole sequence of Apple ID and sign-in to Apple Music absolutely correct. Once you get it right, then you're straight in to Apple TV and the others.

I realise that, overall, Apple security is good; but it sure is fickle at times.

Ease of Use is of great importance!

For those who try the new account and didn’t work, 2 small tricks:

  • remove the account, reinstall the os (without formatting), then try again
  • don’t name it « test » (strange but for me that never worked with this name) use an alternative and change your usual password.

when you get successfull with it you will be able to change you password for your favorite one and it will still work :)

hope it help.

remember, iMessage sync, photos, and some other program will take ages to successfully retrieve your data.

my problem is now solved

Such a hassle, there should be zero reason why this has to happen. Serge's Terminal steps worked for me, and they aren't that difficult, just spent the last 2 days trying to figure it out on my own before I finally found this thread.

I tried it 3 times and it didn't work, finally, I noticed that after I rebooted and logged into my user, I was still logged into iCloud. Logged out of iCloud, performed the steps in Terminal and was finally able to log into Apple Music.

I always install new OS on my MBP to test before installing on my main iMac, Catalina has been the worst experience in a long, long time.

I have this very same problem. See the other thread on this issue.

I have this same issue on my 2019 iMac. I have been in contact with Apple Support several times over the past few days and spoken with numerous Advisors with no successful result.

I do not have this problem on my 2017 MacBook Air which is running Catalina 10.15.1.

I have tried re-installing Catalina 10.15.1 on my iMac and the problem is still there.

I have also changed my Apple ID and the problem is still there.

On my iMac I am getting the same errors as you.

Not very happy as I mainly use the iMac for my music.

Same issue here, although I am able to sign in to the App Store from MacBook Pro (2019) can't sign in to Apple Music or Apple TV (just got this MacBook on Friday). Just logged in to my iMac (Late 2014) and have no problems with Apple TV+ or Music, both running Catalina OS 10.15.1. All other Apple devices running iOS and TVOS 13 work fine with no issues.
