AppleTV 4K Disney Plus app black screen with sound...

So the app works fine except when I go to watch anything(movie or show) I get sound, but with a black/blank screen.

Anyone else have this problem???

Never mind. I figured it out.

If someone else comes across this with the same problem the fix is change HDMI input.

I have a Sony Bravia and for some reason it works fine in HDMI Input 1, 3 and 4. HDMI Input 2 gives me just sound with black screen.

These 2 solutions work!!! However I like the 2nd that way I don’t have to change with my other apps!

1) Like mentioned, you can go into settings and Video and change you resolution from 1080 HDR to SDR. That works.
2) You can leave it on 1080 HDR, but then go into the settings and select "Match Frame" and "Match Rate" to "ON" and you will see a picture when the 1080 HDR is selected. But both Match Frame and Match Rate have to both be on for this to work.

That solved the problem for me! Hope it helps!

Switching from 1080p HDR to 1080p SDR worked for me. In my case it's a Samsung smart TV but not a 4K. I can stream Apple TV and purchased iTunes movies in 1080p HDR no problem, but since these are native Apple apps, most likely they determine the TV's capabilities through HDMI / HDCP negotiation, and adjust accordingly. It would seem the Disney+ app doesn't do that. If the Apple TV is set to 1080p HDR, that's the feed Disney+ gives.

Thankfully I found this post with a quick Google search, and it was a 30-second fix. 1080p SDR it is!

I saw this problem right away with my new ATV 4K. I have a Sony VPLVW665ES Projector and it works great with 4K HDR on Netflix and Amazon Prime but Disney+ movies listing HDR have black screen with sound. I am only able to watch these movies by switching ATV4K to 4K 60P SDR. The Sony Projector confirms no HDR but the picture is now good in SDR.

Note- The HDMI cable must be the latest Ultra high speed or you may need to roll back the setting on ATV4K to 4K 30p or even 24P.

In no case have I been able to get the Disney+ HDR movies to play with any HDR setting. This is a real pain because if I wish to watch an HDR movie on Amazon Prime or Netflix, I have to switch the settings in the Apple TV4K back to 4K 60Hz HDR. Then back again to SDR for Disney+.

Disney+ has had a number of problems on startup and this seems to still be one they have not resolved. HDR is a little appreciated high quality setting by the general public so Disney must not have a high priority to fix this. Most general public would probably be happy with 480i Disney movies.

For now, I am happy to just have 4K 60p SDR because the picture does look good. But Netflix and Amazon Prime looks even better because it can do HDR. The contrast ratio is better and the highlights do not wash out the rest of the picture with HDR.

Disney+ needs to get their act together!!!!

I believe the problem is not Apple but the Disney+ App. Apple TV works fine for Netflix and Amazon HDR.

Contact Disney Support and after you convince them your equipment is not at fault and have the correct speed cable and are plugged into an HDMI port that is HDCP 2.2 compliant, they will likely tell you they are aware of the problem and are working on it with no ETA on a fix. In the meantime set the Apple TV 4K to send 4K SDR and Match Dynamic Range to OFF and that should fix the issue so you can watch picture, but no HDR. Live with that until Disney+ fixes it.

Some have luck because their TV is very new and recognizes Dolby Vision for HDR. If yours doesn't then the SDR fix should allow you to watch the movie until Disney figures out how to send proper HDR10 so it works as well as Netflix.

However, I discovered another problem with AppleTV 4K and the Fubo TV 4KHDR app. I discovered this problem while watching the SuperBowl. FuboTV sends HLG form of HDR on their 4K HDR program and the Apple TV4K does not support HLG. Several references to it claiming it does are published but not on Apple Support that I could find. So, FuboTV had a green screen with sound when I tried it. I have another tuner that does support HLG and it received the Fubo TV 4K channel just fine. If possible, Apple TV 4K device should upgrade to HLG compliance so it works with their FuboTV 4K app. programming

All these problems means that we are all early adopters, field testers for the companies, and the people making this stuff are still trying to figure it out. It doesn't help that the FCC doesn't issue a standard for the equipment makers to meet. So everyone has a better idea and we end up with stuff that is buggy or doesn't work at all. Be prepared to buyreplacements when they figure out what works!

Get this. I plugged ATV directly into my LGTV. Match dynamic content & match frame rates both ON. Somehow when I opened disney plus my LGTV kicked in HDR off and back on (that black flash before the HDR kicks on/off ya know?) and I saw video and heard audio correctly from Disney plus!!!! I then opened ATV setting and dynamic content & match frame rates were both switched to OFF. I didn't do this it did it on its own. I'm now getting video.

Just an FYI. Before I was using a Philips HDMI 2.2 switcher four ports. I'll link you below to the product. It's rated for 2.2. When plugged in back into the switch with dynamic and frame rate match OFF i lost video. I did an HDMI connection test with the Philips switch and then directly into the LGTV. Switch connection test could not pass. When directly into the LGTV it passes the connection test. So, I'm going to be returning the Philips switch and continue to manually unplug as needed. I'm rather upset. I'm so sick and tired of this CRAP. Seriously CRAP. MONEY MAKER.
