AppleTV 4K Disney Plus app black screen with sound...

So the app works fine except when I go to watch anything(movie or show) I get sound, but with a black/blank screen.

Anyone else have this problem???

Having the same problem. I can't believe the answer is to change the input. (hard for me to do given our AV cabinets. Why would Netflix, Hulu, Apple TV+ and other 4K HDR sources work fine, but just Disney Plus needs a different input??!

I saw this problem right away with my new ATV 4K. I have a Sony VPLVW665ES Projector and it works great with 4K HDR on Netflix and Amazon Prime but Disney+ movies listing HDR have black screen with sound. I am only able to watch these movies by switching ATV4K to 4K 60P SDR. The Sony Projector confirms no HDR but the picture is now good in SDR.

Note- The HDMI cable must be the latest Ultra high speed or you may need to roll back the setting on ATV4K to 4K 30p or even 24P.

In no case have I been able to get the Disney+ HDR movies to play with any HDR setting. This is a real pain because if I wish to watch an HDR movie on Amazon Prime or Netflix, I have to switch the settings in the Apple TV4K back to 4K 60Hz HDR. Then back again to SDR for Disney+.

Disney+ has had a number of problems on startup and this seems to still be one they have not resolved. HDR is a little appreciated high quality setting by the general public so Disney must not have a high priority to fix this. Most general public would probably be happy with 480i Disney movies.

For now, I am happy to just have 4K 60p SDR because the picture does look good. But Netflix and Amazon Prime looks even better because it can do HDR. The contrast ratio is better and the highlights do not wash out the rest of the picture with HDR.

Disney+ needs to get their act together!!!!

OK- This evening we watched Remember the Titans in 3840x2160 30P HDR. I tested at 60P but my projector doesn't support 4K 60P when in HDR, only SDR.

Most of the movies are still black screen if I keep HDR active on the Apple TV for Disney+ but a few are now coming through in HDR 4K.

I might add that HDR, I think is over rated for a projector because it just doesn't develop enough brightness to make it noticeable. I'm using a Sony VPL VW665ES.

Still the weird thing is both Netflix and Amazon Prime do all HDR programs fine in 4K 30P HDR on the AppleTV 4K.

Disney+ is a real puzzler. It should not be that the only way to watch HDR content on Disney+ is to shut off HDR and watch in SDR. If all providers, like Netflix and Amazon can do HDR fine than it must be Disney+ encoding methods. If these other services also had the same problem then I would say it's AppleTV. Maybe it's the Disney+ app on ATV4k that's the problem???

I'm hoping to find another Hardware and their Disney+ app combination that works fine so I know where the problem is. Disney or Apple.

Seems odd to me that after buying a streaming device that does 4K HDR on several apps (Netflix Amazon) just fine that anyone would be satisfied needing to set the device to output Disney+ to 1080 SDR. Unless of course your TV is only capable of that lower quality setting. Disney or Apple needs to fix their app on Apple TV 4K as anyone who owns a 4K HDR TV should insist on it. If Netflix and Amazon can get it right so should Disney.

I had the same problem. It’s weird because all other apps stream just fine with no problems and Disney Plus is the only one that plays audio with a black screen. I fixed it by switching my Apple TV 4K to HDMI 1 from HDMI 2 and now it works great. It’s a really weird issue and I don’t know how it works like that but for some reason Disney Plus doesn’t like that HDMI port.

I believe the problem is not Apple but the Disney+ App. Apple TV works fine for Netflix and Amazon HDR.

Contact Disney Support and after you convince them your equipment is not at fault and have the correct speed cable and are plugged into an HDMI port that is HDCP 2.2 compliant, they will likely tell you they are aware of the problem and are working on it with no ETA on a fix. In the meantime set the Apple TV 4K to send 4K SDR and Match Dynamic Range to OFF and that should fix the issue so you can watch picture, but no HDR. Live with that until Disney+ fixes it.

Some have luck because their TV is very new and recognizes Dolby Vision for HDR. If yours doesn't then the SDR fix should allow you to watch the movie until Disney figures out how to send proper HDR10 so it works as well as Netflix.

However, I discovered another problem with AppleTV 4K and the Fubo TV 4KHDR app. I discovered this problem while watching the SuperBowl. FuboTV sends HLG form of HDR on their 4K HDR program and the Apple TV4K does not support HLG. Several references to it claiming it does are published but not on Apple Support that I could find. So, FuboTV had a green screen with sound when I tried it. I have another tuner that does support HLG and it received the Fubo TV 4K channel just fine. If possible, Apple TV 4K device should upgrade to HLG compliance so it works with their FuboTV 4K app. programming

All these problems means that we are all early adopters, field testers for the companies, and the people making this stuff are still trying to figure it out. It doesn't help that the FCC doesn't issue a standard for the equipment makers to meet. So everyone has a better idea and we end up with stuff that is buggy or doesn't work at all. Be prepared to buyreplacements when they figure out what works!
