AppleTV 4K Disney Plus app black screen with sound...

So the app works fine except when I go to watch anything(movie or show) I get sound, but with a black/blank screen.

Anyone else have this problem???

This was helpful in that it lead me to another solution which worked for me. In case someone else finds this post and has a similar issue to me ... 'Went into video and audio on my Apple TV and downgraded 1080 HDR to 1080 SDR and that did the trick.'

These 2 solutions work!!! However I like the 2nd that way I don’t have to change with my other apps!

1) Like mentioned, you can go into settings and Video and change you resolution from 1080 HDR to SDR. That works.
2) You can leave it on 1080 HDR, but then go into the settings and select "Match Frame" and "Match Rate" to "ON" and you will see a picture when the 1080 HDR is selected. But both Match Frame and Match Rate have to both be on for this to work.

That solved the problem for me! Hope it helps!

I agree 100% with you. I have cat 6 wire so changing an HDMI is not an option for me I mean I would had to if it’s dead but that’s not the case. And as well just like yours Hulu, Netflix and tv+ work just fine. I have only audio and captions playing on selected movies. Pretty much all the new ones don’t have video. Someone mentioned something about 4K HDMI and mine is 4K so really not sure whats up with that. Tried to restart apple tv few times as well.

This is apple tv issue since everything plata on my iphone and macbook

I have a Sony Bravia and for some reason it works fine in HDMI Input 1, 3 and 4. HDMI Input 2 gives me just sound with black screen.

Sony equipment is notorious for having to assign some capabilities to HDMI ports manually. If you want 4K HDR, you have to set the HDMI port in Enhanced Mode. Not all HDMI ports may have the same capabilities; some ports may not be able to be assigned Enhanced Mode.

Get this. I plugged ATV directly into my LGTV. Match dynamic content & match frame rates both ON. Somehow when I opened disney plus my LGTV kicked in HDR off and back on (that black flash before the HDR kicks on/off ya know?) and I saw video and heard audio correctly from Disney plus!!!! I then opened ATV setting and dynamic content & match frame rates were both switched to OFF. I didn't do this it did it on its own. I'm now getting video.

Just an FYI. Before I was using a Philips HDMI 2.2 switcher four ports. I'll link you below to the product. It's rated for 2.2. When plugged in back into the switch with dynamic and frame rate match OFF i lost video. I did an HDMI connection test with the Philips switch and then directly into the LGTV. Switch connection test could not pass. When directly into the LGTV it passes the connection test. So, I'm going to be returning the Philips switch and continue to manually unplug as needed. I'm rather upset. I'm so sick and tired of this CRAP. Seriously CRAP. MONEY MAKER.

I saw this problem right away with my new ATV 4K. I have a Sony VPLVW665ES Projector and it works great with 4K HDR on Netflix and Amazon Prime but Disney+ movies listing HDR have black screen with sound. I am only able to watch these movies by switching ATV4K to 4K 60P SDR. The Sony Projector confirms no HDR but the picture is now good in SDR.

Note- The HDMI cable must be the latest Ultra high speed or you may need to roll back the setting on ATV4K to 4K 30p or even 24P.

In no case have I been able to get the Disney+ HDR movies to play with any HDR setting. This is a real pain because if I wish to watch an HDR movie on Amazon Prime or Netflix, I have to switch the settings in the Apple TV4K back to 4K 60Hz HDR. Then back again to SDR for Disney+.

Disney+ has had a number of problems on startup and this seems to still be one they have not resolved. HDR is a little appreciated high quality setting by the general public so Disney must not have a high priority to fix this. Most general public would probably be happy with 480i Disney movies.

For now, I am happy to just have 4K 60p SDR because the picture does look good. But Netflix and Amazon Prime looks even better because it can do HDR. The contrast ratio is better and the highlights do not wash out the rest of the picture with HDR.

Disney+ needs to get their act together!!!!

OK- This evening we watched Remember the Titans in 3840x2160 30P HDR. I tested at 60P but my projector doesn't support 4K 60P when in HDR, only SDR.

Most of the movies are still black screen if I keep HDR active on the Apple TV for Disney+ but a few are now coming through in HDR 4K.

I might add that HDR, I think is over rated for a projector because it just doesn't develop enough brightness to make it noticeable. I'm using a Sony VPL VW665ES.

Still the weird thing is both Netflix and Amazon Prime do all HDR programs fine in 4K 30P HDR on the AppleTV 4K.
