Used a new Apple Magic Keyboard with my 2018 iPad Pro 12.9” (iPadOS 14.0.1) without any issues for the last couple months...until today, when the trackpad stopped working and the cursor disappeared. Restarts and reattachments didn’t work...while the MK remained plugged into power. Fortunately, I found a MacRumors thread with many people having the same problem all this year. Per their advice, I unplugged the MK, restarted and reattached the iPad again, and the MK trackpad & cursor returned. So, an MK power cycle was the key to working around this Apple bug. It appears this problem has been going on for many months in both iPadOS 13 & 14...time for Apple to squash this MK bug!
Previously, I used the Apple Smart Keyboard Folio with my iPad Pro for nearly 2 years, but it started producing “Accessory not supported” errors, requiring an iPad restart/reattachment each time to regain SKF functionality. Apple Support had me do a full iPad reset/restoration from factory defaults—didn’t help. Having an Apple keyboard not recognized by an Apple iPad became so frustrating that I finally upgraded to the MK (which I liked much better before today). Considering these SKF and MK bugs, and the many issues with butterfly keyboards on MacBooks, it seems keyboards have been a challenge for Apple in recent years.
