I got the iPhone SE 2020 on June 27th to replace my old iPhone SE.
Conclusion so far, is that my approx. 4 year old SE, is still capable of keeping the battery for a longer period than the new (a bit crazy when you think about the chemistry in the battery). This morning and yesterday morning I woke up by myself, as the phone was dead and the alarm therefore couldn't wake me up.
I've called Apple Support to ask if it's correct, that on a brand new phone you need to charge it twice daily and also if it's normal to see battery consumption of ~1% per two minutes spend on YouTube (and I'm 2 meters away from the Access Point)?
The answer after doing systems diagnostics was that all the figures and data they could see, showed the phone was working as intended. I've had an iPhone 4S, the old iPhone SE and now this iPhone SE 2020. Obviously I'm not changing often. With the disappointment over this device, I'm strongly considering if it's really worth the hassle to throw a coin in the "wishing-well" and hope for an IOS update that maybe or maybe not resolves the issue. I'm too dependent on my phone. With Apple Customer Services representative's definition of ,, working as intended'' and given the fact that I don't change my phone often, perhaps I should reconsider changing now (read: less than a week after purchase), while I can still sell this device second-hand and cover the majority of the spending on the phone.
For the record, I've gone through all settings I can think of, covering settings such as...
- Disabling background app-refresh for everything but my Garmin Connect app
- E-mail accounts set to manual
- SIRI has been disabled everywhere there's a slider available
- Location services disabled for everything but a few apps set to While using
- App updates has to be installed manually
- Display strength set to half way
- Wifi-calling enabled
- Uninstalled every app which I don't use
I've basically nailed it down to a bare minimum, which I'm fairly certain that my iPhone 4S could have handled well - only had it been usable with new app releases and IOS versions.
I'm not left with the impression that this phone supports mobility for the user that purchases it, as my current hands-on experience tells me that within a short period of time, I'll be chained to a power outlet everywhere I go.
