Hello - I just got a new MacBook Pro 13", 2 Ghz i5, 16gb RAM. Trying the Final Cut Pro demo and even on the most basic of projects I'm getting repeated beach balls. Wondering if there is something I have setup wrong? Could it be a hardware problem? Catalina issue?
After some investigating it actually looks like a Mac OS issue not a Final Cut Pro issue linked with the 10th gen CPUs so please can everyone also submit a form for Mac OS and report it as a bug report and explain your issue

There is an issue with MAC OS and the new 10th gen CPUs when using applications such as after effects and Final Cut Pro. There is clearly a bug that is causing this issue. It looks like it's linked to the GPU on these new 10th gen processors potentially with with the G7 graphics. please fix this problem as I'm sure you're aware that many customers are returning these MacBook pro's with these new 10th gen processors because they cannot use it with these Pro apps. I am using Mac OS Catalina 10.15.5

I have not been able to do so in person due to the Covid crisis but contacted apple on multiple occasions and shared youtubes. They stated they are not aware of the problem and gave me basic reinstallation and troubleshooting techniques that were not relevant.
Yeah. I honestly just don't think the front-line support workers have much of a clue when it comes to this stuff. This isn't an unheard of or unique issue. It is likely (but not guaranteed) to be a software update but I don't trust it enough not to return and wait it out.
Same thing with my 2015 Macbook pro 13inch but I also tested the MacBook Air 2020 and this has a similar issue, they haven't said there was an issue with these models, but they are wrong, I know for a fact
Well, what do I do now? I'm so scared and disappointed. I ordered it just two days ago. And I'm from Costa Rica, so if it comes with that bug I will not be eligible for returning it. Should I just cancel my order and wait a bit longer. I don't know what to do... Asking for a friend.
Ok, thank you all. Very deceiving and disappointed on Apple. No warning, no support when calling. All they said was that it was up to me to buy it. Lol. Guess I’ll wait more and save money to buy a 16inch one or wait for Fall’s release.
I really hope so. I'll just keep reading the updates of this forum until someone tells us it was fixed by an update, and buy the computer then. Please everyone, update us as soon as any fix comes along.
It is not happening all the time ... Few days all ok .. but suddenly it starts: simple trimming, moving objects etc and endless balls. The only medicine that works for ending it is computer restart. Then again ok for some time.

I received my new MBP13 10th i5 with 32Gb RAM and 1Tb storage the 8th of June. I did not had the time to do some video editing, until this evening.... Unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience. After 10-15 minutes I had a spinning ball when I just moved a clip. i'm not doing that intensive things yet!
I filled out the forms and going to call apple support.
Should i return the macbook or hope for a quick update?
Shoot with Sony a7iii. 1080p footage mainly but I work in 4k timeline. Unless you're editing 8k raw footage, the is no reason a 2020 maxed out MBP shouldn't be able to handle this relatively low intensity workflow. There is an issue somewhere and Apple needs to address it.
As for us, we edit mostly from our sailboat (soon to be full time) We have limited space to be comfortable while editing so a 13 inch is perfect for us (power requirement are also better on the 13 inch)
Same issue here. Trying to edit a simple 1080p video for my YouTube channel and getting the spinning wheel after about 20 minutes of using FCPX. Just skimming clips causes it to freeze for at least 45 seconds. I bought the $1799 laptop so I could edit my videos when I travel in a few weeks. Spent all that money to have issues with the main thing I purchased it for. Smdh. Apple needs to fix this.
I’m keeping my laptop. I’m using it for many other things and it's great, and I’m pretty sure the problem with Final Cut will be solved by an update. The fact they don’t have updated FCP for 6 months gives me hope, because I think the next update probably will solve a major problem like that.
I am currently in talks with the engineering team, they seem to acknowledge that there is a problem with the GPU on these processes so I have sent them system logs and any other information that they've needed so we will see what happens and I will keep this forum up-to-date with my progress I will continue to call Apple every single moment I get until this issue is resolved
I’ve watched your video a few times. I remember seeing it before I bought the new Mac but didn’t think too much about it because I was always going to be on premiere . It’s bitten me on the bum now!
only thing Holding me From sending it back now is my old MacBook is knackered and I need a Mac for logic pro
Yeah I did a screen share today and couldn't prove the problem until the second they disconnected the screen share and call! I've got a 1tb internal drive so I don't see the use of an external
