Final Cut Pro and Spinning Beach Balls

Hello - I just got a new MacBook Pro 13", 2 Ghz i5, 16gb RAM. Trying the Final Cut Pro demo and even on the most basic of projects I'm getting repeated beach balls. Wondering if there is something I have setup wrong? Could it be a hardware problem? Catalina issue?

After some investigating it actually looks like a Mac OS issue not a Final Cut Pro issue linked with the 10th gen CPUs so please can everyone also submit a form for Mac OS and report it as a bug report and explain your issue

Here is a sample that I wrote:

There is an issue with MAC OS and the new 10th gen CPUs when using applications such as after effects and Final Cut Pro. There is clearly a bug that is causing this issue. It looks like it's linked to the GPU on these new 10th gen processors potentially with with the G7 graphics. please fix this problem as I'm sure you're aware that many customers are returning these MacBook pro's with these new 10th gen processors because they cannot use it with these Pro apps. I am using Mac OS Catalina 10.15.5

Dang that sucks! I agree, its hard to find people complaining about it online. I have a small YouTube channel, but I'm going to post a video about it just to put it out there and grow awareness. I'm sure while I'm editing that video FCP will give me issues. I've also been commenting on other Youtube videos that review the 2020 $1799 MacBook Pro to start conversations there, and I see several people saying they too have issues when editing.

Nonetheless, its a terrible feeling to be approaching the end of the return window and not have a solution in sight.

TL;DR: I have exactly the same issues on my 2020 13" MBP.

I just wanted to chime in that I have the same issue. 2020 MacBook Pro 4-TB3 ports, 2.3GHz i7, 32GB, Iris Plus and 4TB disk. FCPX works like a dream for the first 15-30 minutes, then I get one beach ball, and it goes away, and then they keep coming and it gets completely unbearable. within minutes. I managed to reboot myself through editing a 50min video earlier this month, but now I'm back working on another one and the same issues. I've updated all the software I can find, and all of that.

Hoping to get a resolution to this soon - it's pretty ridiculous.

Guys! I'll tell you my story from the beginning! I bought MBP 13 2020 10th gen 2.0Ghz 16GB and the 2nd day using I faced this problem on iMovie.... I contacted the support and we have been trying to solve this problem for 2 weeks.... no result... Then They took my log files and we still waiting for an update from engineers. I thought it was all about iMovie cuz the rest was working nice... I tried Final Cut and the same problem occurred. Then I replaced my Mac with the same one and again the same problem.... And yes, I was also told by Support that I need to buy better Mac for Final Cut... hahaha.... this is sick.... The main problem is... that I can't get my job done! Cant work at all.. Have no idea what to do. I read all this forum.... and didn't get one thing... is this only with 10th gen processor with new graphics and DDR4 or... it can also happen on Mac book pro 1.4 8th gen with previous graphics and DDR3?

One guy here said that he has the same issue on 16 inch Mac..... im desperate!!!! I need HELP! Its been now more then a month from my first request to Support - so far no results..... I need Mac OS! I need editing! What am I suppose to do then?

They will indeed, they will be better and better over time, better thermals and performance, just a shame that Apple has launched a product that clearly doesn't meet its standard (Intel's fault) but they should at least fix the issues that their products currently have, especially newly released ones. As I mentioned I am still in talks with engineers, so I will update the thread next week on what they say. I am hopeful though because once your reach past the useless everyday support team and get to the technical team, they are great

Again I don’t think its better to buy a model with 8th gen CPUs, slower RAM, worse speakers and one fan, less ports and not the convenience to charge from any side you want, basically the 2019 base model with the magic keyboard. I’m 100% sure apple will release an update to fix the 2020 10th gen CPUs issues and we all know from 2020 13" lineup, only the 10th gen models are worth the price (for the specs and features they’re offering).
