Macbook Pro STOPPED CHARGING after upgrading to Catalina 10.15.5

Similar with MacBook Air. It showed a message saying trouble with staff home link. I clicked okay. Now no pier goes to mac. The Apple is not lit but cord is charging. Help. Many answers involve clicking something on Mac but it’s not turning on! Can you do something remotely.

Its the same with mine 2019 13” 2 Thunderbolt ports . After the update this started happening I thought the supplemental update will help but it didn’t. It charges sometime and sometimes it does not .

After the recent update i cannot perform the smc reset ... i know there is know to check that but the mac turns on as soon as i press 3 buttons and does not go back to sleep after i press the power buttoon, i have performed smc reset several times before but it does not seem to work after this recent update

Apple is sending bugs along with the Catalina update, so that our computers stop working and we buy new ones.

Its their strategy to make us spend more money on new computer so they can continue increasing their sales.

This is exactly what happened to my iPhone after the update and now they are paying me $25 for my $1200 iPhone they messed up with the update

It's not the battery that's the problem. I have a new battery and it hasn't been an issue with the "battery not charging" until the Catalina update of 10.15.5.

Is there a fix for this? Can we go back to the old Catalina version to make it charge again?

Please respond and let us know how to fix this ASAP.

I bought BRAND NEW 2 iMacs less than a month and one with Catalina update and one without. I returned the one I updated since it started freezing right away, and kept the one I DID NOT update the Catalina. This shows exactly what Catalina is a total BUG to our computers.

As I say, Apple tell me it's the battery so there's nothing much I can do. Windows claims it's 90% charged, and Ubuntu thinks similary (bootcamp / live USB) - which may be why Catalina won't charge it, it thinks it's at that 90% mark. But that makes no sense when Catalina itself is showing me 1%.

It seems I am not alone. My Mac (13-inch 2017 MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, Catalina 10.15.5) recently has the same issue of not charging. Its plugged in while it shows 1% of battery forever. I tried resetting the SMC numerous times but it never worked. Apple diagnostics gave me a code PPT006. Talked to the apple support and they suggested sending it for repair. Anyone who has solved this problem?

I took this route and have my now-working Mac back. In my case, I did have to reload everything from my Time Machine backup but back up and running! The Apple folks are doing a great job IMO of keeping their repair flow working through these challenging times.

Yes, i also got the call. We talked about the same issue. In my case i have no problem because as i already mentioned i turned off the function in time and i use another application that i consider much more effective called AlDente, it’s available on github.

I have had no success with the fixes - running on a 2017 13” 4 port. I tried the smc reset routine a few times but when I run through the steps the laptop dies and I have to unplug and re-plug to get it started again so I feel it is really not resetting it

I am now at the point where I am just waiting for an Apple fix - my laptop is now a desktop

Yep - did all those same things you mentioned and issue still exists on mine.. Too bad we can’t roll back to the 10.15.4. I am in wait mode - I have read that 10.15.6 is out for beta now. Tick tock - how long until it’s released ???

I am a 10.14.6 user that has skipped upgrading to 10.15 due to unfavorable reports. It may be of interest that I have similar charging issues on my 2018 MBPro13" with system 10.14.6. (purch 1/19).

When using on 100% charge at any random time the battery charge indicator will show the charge declining with the indicator blacked out. The System Report (power) states connected:yes and charging:no. It continues to drop charge to 91% and then changes to the white indicator and recharges to 100% and System Report (power) states connected:yes and charging:yes. I have original and spare adaptors with same results. Turning charging on/off and resets do not seem to have any effect. I have Apple Care so I hope for a solution before 1/22.

After I updated to 10.15.5 my Mac is not recognizing battery at all. Fan is always turned on on max. And I know it's not dead battery, because even if I unplug power, Mac is working normally, just saying there is no battery.

Tried SMC & PRAM reset, nothing helps. Anyone have some ideas?
