Macbook Pro STOPPED CHARGING after upgrading to Catalina 10.15.5

URGENT help is needed! My Macbook Pro (13', 2019, 2 ports) STOPPED CHARGING after upgrading to Catalina 10.15.5 (19F96). I'm using the default charger and cable, yet the battery keeps depleting! The top left battery icon shows as if the battery was charging, yet when I click on it, it says "Battery is not charging".

I keep disconnecting-reconnecting the charger, and also tried to change the cable, to no avail. The charger worked without any issue before updating to 10.15.5.

I am seriously worried my laptop is going to be bricked if I won't be able to download the fix on it before the battery runs out of juice. Please bring this post to the attention of Apple representatives immediately.

If it refuses to charge with the correct power adapter, the first line of defense is an SMC Reset:

If it still refuses to charge, use the "contact Support" link at the top of every forum page.

****Update****

I updated to the latest version still no go, SMC does not solve my issue - so made an appointment with the tech at the Genius Bar. Immediatly upon listening to my issue he said its your USBC ports they are loose. I said huh????? I have 4 and how can all 4 be loose since I only really use the 1 to charge with and the other 3 are barely used. He said I don't know but that's the problem and its $475 to fix it. So I pulled out my daughter's laptop that is not updated to this version and said hmm looks like when I plug in the cable on this one it feels exactly the same and it charges - riddle me this??? I told him there Is a string of people experiencing the same thing and he said yeah you cant listen to that or them .... So obviously they are keen to the issue and are told to blame It on another hardware problem - nice one apple - so much for my MacBook for now it is a Desktop........... 475 KMA!!!!!!!!!

Just to update, mine has now gone in for flexgate repair and as I've had issues with sticking keys, they're also replacing the keyboard which means replacing the battery, so we'll find out if it's the battery or the logic board which I guess might help some of the other posters on here. If it is the logic board then I guess it's going in the bin and I'll get a Dell next time. :p

The battery is showing faulty on Mac Resource Inspector which is Apple's internal tool, all other tests passed.

I am having this problem as well on a 2017 Macbook Pro. It's been intermittent with the previous two Catalina updates. So far, sometimes my OS seems to restart charging after some time (with no obvious stimulus on my part). However, at least once, the OS has let the battery run all the way down to zero - which, by the way, is bad for battery health as well, in addition to being inconvenient for the user. As I type this slightly irate response, I'm at 16% battery, so clearly my computer is in a drain the battery sort of mood. Restarting the computer and restarting the SMC sometimes works. I just turned off battery health management, and I'm still losing charge.

The battery on this MBP was replaced in 2019 because it was faulty. So, I don't think it's a battery fault. Also, I have had this with two separate chargers and USB-C cables, so it's not those items either.

I think battery health management is a good idea. Keeping lithium ion batteries at maximum charge does reduce their service life. Having the battery management keep me at a maximum of 80% or 90% would be OK with me (and it would be nice if I could have an advanced option to change that parameter). However, battery health management as implemented in Catalina doesn't really seem to be working like this.

To close this off for me - I had flexgate on my 2016 MBP and mentioned at the same time that my keyboard had been getting stuck. For this model, a replacement keyboard requires a replacement battery. The end result was that I got a new keyboard, screen and battery at no charge from Apple and it resolved my charging issue.

So if anyone has this issue on a 2016 MBP, I'd suggest that you go in and if you haven't had a topcase replacement because of keyboard issues, if you have any sticking keys (which you'll almost certainly have experienced!) you will be eligible for a new topcase, and thus a new battery.
