Facetime audio issue for the iPhone 11(s)

I'm having an issue with facetime. When Im talking majority of the time the person on the other end cannot hear me or its going in and out. Often times I notice the issue happens alot more if the floor is laying flat instead of me holding it in my hand. I've done all the steps possible to solve the issue, even have gotten a replacement phone and im still having the issue. Theres no water damage nor has the phone been dropped or damaged in any sort. I've had the replacement phone now for about 3 weeks at the most and before I had my last one since Feb. Im starting to notice my mothers iPhone 11 Pro doing the same thing as well. Never had this issue before until I got this iPhone 11

I’m having the same issue on my iPhone 11, audio breaks up and I’m told they can’t here me but they see me fine. Have had audio issues on calls as well breaking up and phone says I have great signal, I also just had Verizon exchange for a new iphone 11 and guess what still have the same problems so that tells me it’s the phone itself or the software.

Hello, foreverelc.

I understand that you are having an issue with FaceTime in which it is, at times, harder to hear. Also, the connection is occasionally spotty. I use FaceTime to keep in touch with my friends and family, and I am glad to help.

Based on the fact that you have a new iPhone and the issue is still occurring, along with that it is less noticeable when in your hand, I believe that this is an environmental connectivity issue. This means that, in certain instances, the device isn’t getting a strong enough connection to the Internet based on its surroundings. The signal strength of the person you are calling can also have a part in this.

My best advice here is to avoid placing it in areas where you know that it doesn't work as well. It might help to place FaceTime calls using Wi-Fi whenever possible and try to be closer to your Wi-Fi router.

The Apple Support article, If you can't make a FaceTime call on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, has more information.

Be Well.

I would agree but if it was a connection issue me putting in AirPods or simply just using another Apple device wouldn’t help... but it does. Anytime I have to FaceTime I just use another device! They tried to tell me it was a connection issue & I know it’s not. My WiFi is very good & I have no issue with the internet unless I’m on FaceTime using my iPhone 11.

Same here!! ANY Facetime call that phone is not close enough to you the other says; “I can’t hear you, cracking alot” I get my airpods pro on and issue solved. I believe its a microphone issue. Why as soon as the microphone moves to the airpods call is smooth? Is annoying to not be able to make a regular facetime in 2020z never had and issue with any other previois generations until I got iphone 11 pro

Well here’s the thing.. I updated the iPhone 11 to IOS 14 Beta.. issues resolved. No more audio issues whatsoever. I’m no expert, but that sound like a software issue to me. Although! I will NOT recommend anyone to update to any beta software before the official release, this is the first time it’s caused so many problems to my device I ended up removing it, but it did solve the FaceTime audio issues. Soooo software issue it is!! I have headphones and AirPods I’ll use those for the time being

Do you have any other suggestions on this issue? I am now on my second 11pro max and having the same issue. Person on end can only hear like every 3rd word. If I hang up and call from my iPad Pro no issues. Same WiFi, same spot same everything. From all of the post this seems to be a software issue. And yes I am running iOS 14

I have faced this problem for months. My wife has a iphone 11 pro. I have an iphone 10. When we communicate on Facetime her voice and video are choppy. I hear every second or third word. I thought the phone was defective. I then tested it with friends who have various iphones (not iphone 11). No issues at all with Facetime. I then tested it with another iphone 11 pro. Same choppy conversation.

The problem appears to be with some sort of feedback through the non iphone 11 phone. I discovered this by testing it with my bluetooth headset. The problem stopped immediately. I then tested this by muting my phone (iphone 10). The problem again disappeared. As soon as i turned off the mute the problem started again.

Her iphone was reset to factory settings, the TMobile SIM card was changed, calls to Apple Support, etc. did not resolve anything.

Try muting the non iphone 11 phone. (The one receiving the choppy audio).

i put in another call to Apple Support and will contact them again when I have her phone available for testing.

PLEASE POST YOUR RESULTS.

Can we change this to unresolved? Deciding it’s an issue with the phone is not a resolution. I have a new 11 pro and it’s driving me crazing that I can’t use FaceTime. The person on the other end hears maybe every 4th word. If I use headphones and rely on the headphone microphone, it’s fine. Try using FaceTime while wearing headphones and carrying around a 7 month old - IMPOSSIBLE.

Apple needs to address this issue. This phone has to be good for more than just nice pictures.

My wife's Iphone 11 and then the 12 both have this issue. When using facetime, the person on the other end reports the audio cutting in and out. I have the Iphone SE(2020) and this does not happen. If she holds the phone less than arms length away, it gets considerably better but not completely. Almost like the sensitivity of the microphone is less than it should be. None of the suggested fixes I have seen responding to these posts has corrected this. The fact that my SE doesn't do this suggests a hardware issue.
