iPhone XS screen right side not responding for touching

Hi! Ever since I upgraded to 13.6.1 my screen’s right side faults to respond touching . It’s very strange because it doesn’t work all across the edge straight from the bottom to the top (see the screenshot, I tried to fill a note with a pencil). I actually have to flip my phone and type horizontally because the buttons on the right aren’t reachable. 

Yesterday I tried switching the screen to larger mode in the settings and then switched back to standard and it helped for a while. But then it failed again and remains unresponsive until now. Any ideas what it could be caused by and what should I do now? I didn’t go for repairs service yet cause it doesn’t look like a hardware issue. Thanks!

Hi just updated my phone to ios 13.6.1 i have the same

issue, but the left side of my phone is not responding well to touch. but i can still touch it but with multiple press pf the screen. i hope someone can help me.

Same here! iPhone XS right side of the screen suddenly stopped working, and it’s so frustrating because I see how many we are with the same problem. It seems like it happened to us almost at the same time. In my opinion it’s an issue Apple should deal with, not us!

It’s exactly the same problem on iPhone X models, and Apple covers the costs. When is it our turn?! Apple needs to do something with this issue ASAP..

Apple service providers charge $279 however I went with a 3rd party retail shop. Cost me $200. My screen has been working flawless since the repair. I'm hoping Apple catches onto this issue which was similar to the Iphone X display replacement program where they offered refunds for people that used out of pocket funds for the repair. This is the first time Ive every had a problem with an Iphone.

Same problem here. Really fishy how all these replies are in the recent months. It’s as if the bug was a introduced in August and is becoming more and more popular. I haven’t updated iOS, still on 13.6.1.


Either seems like a widespread software bug or perhaps a security flaw and we’re all infected with malware. Hopefully it’s not the latter.

About a month and a half ago, after an update, left side of screen not working. Can’t use number one or icons on left or letter q unless I turn landscape direction. I figured next update would solve the problem, but did not. More recently my talk to text has gotten grossly inaccurate, so I really had to take time to get it fixed. Spent almost 3 hrs with apple tech support on phone, full factory restore, which took several attempts to complete, finally got restored and talk to text is better but the left side of the screen still does not work. There are no available genius appointments anywhere in my area so she said just keep checking in case someone cancels. The other thing on mine is that there is also a bright pink stripe down the left side. It is very narrow but always present . I don’t believe this was present the first time the left side stopped working , I think the pink may have started later on. I also now spent over an hour with my cell phone carrier trying to fix, but in end I will have to go in to Verizon store. IPhone XS, not under warranty, I have Assurion insurance through Verizon but it’s sounding like they may not cover this issue... like it would be covered if I dropped in water but not just for malfunctioning ? Guess I’ll find out if I can get into the store.... I’ve lost sooooo much valuable time on this already and use this device for business. Missing deadlines too. Sigh :(

Yeaaaa, I have the same issue. I bought my iPhone xs from Amazon renewed. Wasn’t sure if it was their fault or not. But now that I see this same issue on these discussions, I now know this isn’t just me but a lot of people are experiencing it too! Very sad tbh. I hope they fix it soon... bc I don’t wanna return my phone, my other phone is not good for daily use anymore. I am disappointed that Amazon sent me this phone with this problem, but now I am even more disappointed with Apple because this is a legit problem many people are having, it’s dumb. It’s now April 4, 2021 :(

Other than that, I really like this phone. I just hope one day it works or Apple will puts out a software update for this problem. (I am using left side keyboard rn. I wasn’t able to touch p and 0 and many other things from other apps as well and I can’t swipe my finger up to go to home screen on the right side when I’m on horizontal mode on YouTube and things like that.) But yeah Apple if you see this, pls I want you guys to fix this ASAP

I did it and I let it run till 100 percent. And I found out that this “method” doesn’t work. I still have my issue of my right side of my screen not working. The screenshot is when the benchmark is finished, which is when the benchmark reaches 100 percent. (I am just being cautious btw, that’s why there are scribbles, plus this app is from China, I don’t wanna share anything that I am unsure of but it probably wasn’t necessary to scribble it, but whatever lol) But yeah, I knew in the back of my mind it wouldn’t work. All I can say is... it didn’t work for me.

I cant believe there are so many of us having this issue, this all started after the ios14 update, i have been reading all the message in this thread, so best solution without repair is the left handed assist but its annoying , i cant type right, its all compressed… all the while i was thinking that it could have been hardware issue since i disinfect my phone a alot with sanitary wipes and alcohol, hopefully apple fixes this

Same issue here on a XS max, right side of screen stopped working, forced to use left handed keyboard. Has to be some software or hardware bug for so many people to have the exact same screen malfunction. Went to an Apple store and they said I would have to pay $329 to replace the screen. Apple should support fixing this under their Apple service programs as it is definitely not something that happened because of the consumer. Apple step up and FIX THIS!

I’ve been facing the same issue for last couple of days. Very frustrating and disappointing! I have been using iPhones for 8 years now, and this is the first time I’ve faced any issue. Turned out it’s been happening to with X, 11 as well.


It all started with iOS update and the fact that it’s widespread, I don’t think it’s a hardware issue. Additionally, my faceid has also stopped working same day. That’s very strange! :(
