iPhone XS screen right side not responding for touching

Hi! Ever since I upgraded to 13.6.1 my screen’s right side faults to respond touching . It’s very strange because it doesn’t work all across the edge straight from the bottom to the top (see the screenshot, I tried to fill a note with a pencil). I actually have to flip my phone and type horizontally because the buttons on the right aren’t reachable.

Yesterday I tried switching the screen to larger mode in the settings and then switched back to standard and it helped for a while. But then it failed again and remains unresponsive until now. Any ideas what it could be caused by and what should I do now? I didn’t go for repairs service yet cause it doesn’t look like a hardware issue. Thanks!

Had the same issue after the ios 14 update. Cant type P or 0 or basically anything along the right side of the screen on my XS. Apple store said to restore the phone as new and not from a backup. Ill wait for the next update before I mess with that. They also suggested replacing the screen... no thanks since it was perfectly fine before the update.

Hi all,

I am also facing the similar issue where top portion of the screen of my iPhone XS Max has stopped working after software update. I called the service centre with regard to this and they have told that if lots of customers are facing g the similar issue and they receive lots of calls then they might be able to escalate the issue for screen replacement. So please all of you find time to call the customer service to complain about the issue you are facing. Also, let me know if any of you have got successful resolution.

About a month and a half ago, after an update, left side of screen not working. Can’t use number one or icons on left or letter q unless I turn landscape direction. I figured next update would solve the problem, but did not. More recently my talk to text has gotten grossly inaccurate, so I really had to take time to get it fixed. Spent almost 3 hrs with apple tech support on phone, full factory restore, which took several attempts to complete, finally got restored and talk to text is better but the left side of the screen still does not work. There are no available genius appointments anywhere in my area so she said just keep checking in case someone cancels. The other thing on mine is that there is also a bright pink stripe down the left side. It is very narrow but always present . I don’t believe this was present the first time the left side stopped working , I think the pink may have started later on. I also now spent over an hour with my cell phone carrier trying to fix, but in end I will have to go in to Verizon store. IPhone XS, not under warranty, I have Assurion insurance through Verizon but it’s sounding like they may not cover this issue... like it would be covered if I dropped in water but not just for malfunctioning ? Guess I’ll find out if I can get into the store.... I’ve lost sooooo much valuable time on this already and use this device for business. Missing deadlines too. Sigh :(

So ive just noticed this issue on my iPhone XS too. Have been frantically googling like a maniac to see if there are any fixes on the internet for this. Turns out not much. Phone was perfect this morning, was left for a while and when i returned i got this issue.

Tried everything i could think of, restored as a new iPhone, backed up and restored. Even reluctantly updated to iOS 14.5.1 with no change. Hard reset it, checked if it was an app issue but nothing. Initially i thought the issue was hardware related after dropping it on carpet from waist height (im 5'8). iPhone has always bee in a case and always had a screen protector so no damage occurred.

Like most first i couldn't use the keyboard properly the P and backspace button wouldn't work. Then i jumped on safari and noticed i couldn't scroll using the right hand side of the display. Opened note and used the drawing tool, noticed i could use the whole screen except the right hand side again.

When rotating the screen either left or right, the right hand side of the screen works without issues which makes me more confident that this is an issue with the software and not hardware.

So i used the apple chat as the website wouldn't let me get someone to call. Turns out that i would need to get my self an appointment for the genius bar and bottom line would need to pay if the device needed attention. So i thought scrap that.

Now im stuck for ideas. Can't afford to pay out for a repair might as well just upgrade.

So my thoughts have already been voiced by those before me. How do we get apple to recognise the issue and resolve it? I read that there was a similar issue on the iPhone X.

iPhone X user here. 4 days ago updated to iOS 14.3 and started having ghost touches and lags. Did a reboot, it seemed to fix it for couple of days. Now the right side is lagging as well and it doesn’t seem to be phone wide, because on some apps only the right lower part is unresponsive, for some its the top part. This incosistency shows that it probably is an issue with software not hardware. Will not pay for screen replacement until there is a definitive answer that software is not to blame. I rather use that money as a starting saving for a new phone if this is not fixed in next updates.
