iPhone XS screen right side not responding for touching

Hi! Ever since I upgraded to 13.6.1 my screen’s right side faults to respond touching . It’s very strange because it doesn’t work all across the edge straight from the bottom to the top (see the screenshot, I tried to fill a note with a pencil). I actually have to flip my phone and type horizontally because the buttons on the right aren’t reachable.

Yesterday I tried switching the screen to larger mode in the settings and then switched back to standard and it helped for a while. But then it failed again and remains unresponsive until now. Any ideas what it could be caused by and what should I do now? I didn’t go for repairs service yet cause it doesn’t look like a hardware issue. Thanks!

Had the same issue after the ios 14 update. Cant type P or 0 or basically anything along the right side of the screen on my XS. Apple store said to restore the phone as new and not from a backup. Ill wait for the next update before I mess with that. They also suggested replacing the screen... no thanks since it was perfectly fine before the update.

I could not fix it. I am not in the US so I took my phone to an Apple representative (since Apple is not in my country) and they run multiple tests. The screen touch is not working properly and they informed this to Apple. Since my phone is not under warranty (although it is in mint condition as stated by the Apple representative), Apple has rejected to authorize this repair which is completely unfair and super disappointing for a brand like Apple. This problem has been caused due to them and they expect us to pay for the repair --which is super expensive! They do have an Apple Service Program for this new reason for iPhone 11 which was launched on December 4, 2020 [https://support.apple.com/en-in/iphone-11-display-module-replacement-program] but they told me that they have not identified a problem for iPhone XS which is unbelievable since so many of us are reporting the exact same problem. Shame on Apple. I work with my phone and cannot afford right now such expenditure which is a result of a problem they caused.

I have the same problem with my iPhone X after updating to IOS14 back in sep/nov.

My left side doesn't work. In the beginning I could use it randomly, but then it permanently just stopped working. It even went further towards the middle. I could still scroll if I pressed really hard though - which led me to believe this wasn't a hardware issue.

I tried restoring my phone about a week ago, but now I am stuck at "setting up" screen because I still can't use my left side. So now I am not able to use my phone AT all. Back to my old 5s I guess for now.

I am shocked to see so many people have the same problem and apple not doing their job to fix it.

Apple speak up and fix this for FREE!

Same problem here. Really fishy how all these replies are in the recent months. It’s as if the bug was a introduced in August and is becoming more and more popular. I haven’t updated iOS, still on 13.6.1.

Either seems like a widespread software bug or perhaps a security flaw and we’re all infected with malware. Hopefully it’s not the latter.

The thing that doesn’t make a lot of sense, is that some people say it gets fixed by replacing the screen and some people say it gets fixed by restoring the iPhone. I just hate that they are not willing to address this, when it appears that it’s happening to a lot of users. But if you personally haven’t updated your phone, yet it still has happened to you, It leads me to believe that this might be a iOS software bug or malware.

I also read someone had also went out and bought a brand-new iPhone 12 because he got tired of this problem and then the iPhone 12 got the same problem as well, like what the ****?

Same here! iPhone XS right side of the screen suddenly stopped working, and it’s so frustrating because I see how many we are with the same problem. It seems like it happened to us almost at the same time. In my opinion it’s an issue Apple should deal with, not us!

I found a replacement program here:

https://support.apple.com/iphone-x-display-module-replacement-program

It’s exactly the same problem on iPhone X models, and Apple covers the costs. When is it our turn?! Apple needs to do something with this issue ASAP..

Thanks for your advise! So further to this issue. I had removed my screen protector (tempered glass). Also thinking it could have been temperature issue but leaving it in the freezer and warming it up by leaving it under my pillow whilst playing YouTube vids did nothing.

So long story short, I had an appointment with the “genius” bar and cancelled. My iPhone XS miraculously came back to life. So definite bug in the recent iOS 14 software?

Keeping an eye on this as I’d like to see Apple take ownership of this and fix the issue one way or another.

Will update here on this thread if the issue reoccurs. Anyone going to apple with this issue please update here too. Would be good to see what they come back!

I cant believe there are so many of us having this issue, this all started after the ios14 update, i have been reading all the message in this thread, so best solution without repair is the left handed assist but its annoying , i cant type right, its all compressed… all the while i was thinking that it could have been hardware issue since i disinfect my phone a alot with sanitary wipes and alcohol, hopefully apple fixes this

Same issue here on a XS max, right side of screen stopped working, forced to use left handed keyboard. Has to be some software or hardware bug for so many people to have the exact same screen malfunction. Went to an Apple store and they said I would have to pay $329 to replace the screen. Apple should support fixing this under their Apple service programs as it is definitely not something that happened because of the consumer. Apple step up and FIX THIS!

I took my iphone to apple last week and they did nothing whatsoever. To be honest i wasnt overly surprised but the outcome was its out of warranty and definitely a screen issue. They advised to change the display which would of cost be £286. More than the phone is probably worth!

Sold it instead, managed to buy a second hand iphone xs max in the same price so a free upgrade so to speak. iSmash are charging a reasonable £140 with a lifetime warranty (doesnt include damage) in the UK.

I dont think apple will do anything about this. From what they told me, if this was a software issue a lot more users would be affected and apple would've heard of it by now.

Will continue to monitor this as it'll be interesting to see how this play out. Apple are clearly to blame. My iphone was brand new and i can not exaggerate its condition. Easily pass it off as brand new. Never been dropped. Always in a case and protected with a screen protector.

Time will tell...

Hi

I have the same issue. My Xs was bought new in October 2018. Went into my local Apple store today (In Cribbs Causeway Bristol) and was told I had to pay for a new screen as they confirmed the edge of the right hand side was faulty to touch. Saw this thread and now on to Apple support who won't do anything. I have said there are over 11 pages of people with the same problem and there is a service repair for the X and 11 which also have touch screen issues. I asked for it to be raised as a complaint as the customer support advisor said it was outside the 1 year warranty (I did have apple care for year 2) Had iPhones since the 1st one launched and never had any problems.

Just been back to the Apple store in Bristol. Another part of the screen has failed. Apple won't do anything. I registered a complaint with Apple Support just in case there is a future recall/service repair. Bought the phone from Very so submitted a claim to them. Apple store did a report which I have emailed to Very. Just need to wait now, I have cited UK consumer law and said I would expect a phone costing £999 to last at least 3 years.
