iPhone XS screen right side not responding for touching

Hi! Ever since I upgraded to 13.6.1 my screen’s right side faults to respond touching . It’s very strange because it doesn’t work all across the edge straight from the bottom to the top (see the screenshot, I tried to fill a note with a pencil). I actually have to flip my phone and type horizontally because the buttons on the right aren’t reachable.

Yesterday I tried switching the screen to larger mode in the settings and then switched back to standard and it helped for a while. But then it failed again and remains unresponsive until now. Any ideas what it could be caused by and what should I do now? I didn’t go for repairs service yet cause it doesn’t look like a hardware issue. Thanks!

not sure if this is consistent for others, but every time it has happened to me it seems to self resolve after about a week. Is still extremely frustrating, especially given the dependency on mobile device reliability for work (and life) these days. But a little bit of hope that you may not have to buy a brand new phone if you’re able to wait it out.

The operating system (software) has to interact with the screen (hardware) somehow. The screen detects touch and sends information to the operating system to know what to do with that touch input. The opposite could also be true, where an operating system bug, disables the touch sensor on part of the screen. The fact that this is surging in recent months and especially Jan 2021, and the fact that the unresponsive strip is moving around the screen for some people and randomly fixing itself for others makes this look like os-level software issues.

The thing that doesn’t make a lot of sense, is that some people say it gets fixed by replacing the screen and some people say it gets fixed by restoring the iPhone. I just hate that they are not willing to address this, when it appears that it’s happening to a lot of users. But if you personally haven’t updated your phone, yet it still has happened to you, It leads me to believe that this might be a iOS software bug or malware.

I also read someone had also went out and bought a brand-new iPhone 12 because he got tired of this problem and then the iPhone 12 got the same problem as well, like what the ****?

it is nearly 2 month and i tried everything except replacement of screen which cost 1/3 of iphone. My screen totally okay without any damage on itself , now i am using my old iphone 6 to work and other stuff, and iphone xs only for calls and whatsapp cause it has horizontal mode xd.

apple, give us iphone xs free screen replacement program🙌

Same here

i have iPhone 6 Plus and CS and use them both equally although the 6plus model for couple of years more .

I deal with both of them equally avoiding so far successfully extreme temperatures , water , dust, accidental droppings etc. yet just few days ago all of sudden (just 3 months after the warranty was over) my xs started to act strangely . And the issue is exactly same as described here. I don’t believe it’s hardware problem . Can apple please stop being silent and address the issue ?!

it’s so F frustrating. I spent fortune on their products and I think I’m just gonna start using other phones cause paying 1500$ for a phone just so you’d have to replace screen for 300$ or more...it’s pointless. Even the glass at the back of the iPhone is super expensive to replace . I miss times when Jobs ran the company. Now with Cook it’s all about the money and money. They want compete with watch makers, VOD providers, and soon probably gonna start making shoes or kitchen accessories because cool wants to make profit . But what about us users who need just a device that we can rely on?

Does apple care about their customers ? As you can see there is a lot of us with the same problem. Why does apple not accept the same problem that that is happening with the iPhone X is also happening with the iPhone XS. There is a repair program for the iPhone X but no repair program for the iPhone XS? Makes me feel so frustrated. Come on apple do the right thing as set a repair program for the iPhone XS !!!!
