iPhone XS screen right side not responding for touching

Hi! Ever since I upgraded to 13.6.1 my screen’s right side faults to respond touching . It’s very strange because it doesn’t work all across the edge straight from the bottom to the top (see the screenshot, I tried to fill a note with a pencil). I actually have to flip my phone and type horizontally because the buttons on the right aren’t reachable.

Yesterday I tried switching the screen to larger mode in the settings and then switched back to standard and it helped for a while. But then it failed again and remains unresponsive until now. Any ideas what it could be caused by and what should I do now? I didn’t go for repairs service yet cause it doesn’t look like a hardware issue. Thanks!

I have the same problem with my iPhone Xs. This is my second iPhone, I didn’t have any problem with my earlier experience, I liked that a lot. Therefore I switched almost all my devices to apple from laptop to speakers etc. However, this problem annoyed me a lot and I don’t feel like i want to buy a new apple stuff. It is so sad, because I didn’t use my phone harshly or anything, however, Genius Bar didn’t help me except suggesting replacement of screen 1/3 of a new apple iPhone cost. I still have hope though. Maybe someone sees this and responds.

My XS did this in Feb 2020 and because I had AppleCare when I brought it in they just replaced the screen and charged me $29, the problem was gone...until yesterday. Randomly (did not drop, get wet or anything), the exact same problem came back. I took it to BestBuy authorized repair and they wanted to change the screen again and charge me because the warranty is up - no way. I have an appointment at the apple store today and if they cannot confirm 100% that it is a screen failure I will be requesting the phone be sent to their repair center for diagnosis - this is what the second level tech support suggested.

So ive just noticed this issue on my iPhone XS too. Have been frantically googling like a maniac to see if there are any fixes on the internet for this. Turns out not much. Phone was perfect this morning, was left for a while and when i returned i got this issue.

Tried everything i could think of, restored as a new iPhone, backed up and restored. Even reluctantly updated to iOS 14.5.1 with no change. Hard reset it, checked if it was an app issue but nothing. Initially i thought the issue was hardware related after dropping it on carpet from waist height (im 5'8). iPhone has always bee in a case and always had a screen protector so no damage occurred.

Like most first i couldn't use the keyboard properly the P and backspace button wouldn't work. Then i jumped on safari and noticed i couldn't scroll using the right hand side of the display. Opened note and used the drawing tool, noticed i could use the whole screen except the right hand side again.

When rotating the screen either left or right, the right hand side of the screen works without issues which makes me more confident that this is an issue with the software and not hardware.

So i used the apple chat as the website wouldn't let me get someone to call. Turns out that i would need to get my self an appointment for the genius bar and bottom line would need to pay if the device needed attention. So i thought scrap that.

Now im stuck for ideas. Can't afford to pay out for a repair might as well just upgrade.

So my thoughts have already been voiced by those before me. How do we get apple to recognise the issue and resolve it? I read that there was a similar issue on the iPhone X.

Thanks for your advise! So further to this issue. I had removed my screen protector (tempered glass). Also thinking it could have been temperature issue but leaving it in the freezer and warming it up by leaving it under my pillow whilst playing YouTube vids did nothing.

So long story short, I had an appointment with the “genius” bar and cancelled. My iPhone XS miraculously came back to life. So definite bug in the recent iOS 14 software?

Keeping an eye on this as I’d like to see Apple take ownership of this and fix the issue one way or another.

Will update here on this thread if the issue reoccurs. Anyone going to apple with this issue please update here too. Would be good to see what they come back!

So a quick update to my last post. I’ve not yet experienced the same issue since. I’ve noticed another update for iOS 14.6 but again now reluctant to update given battery issues I’ve read.

I was on iOS 14.4.1 then updated to 14.5 if that helps you @fadayopaul.

Still think this needs to be addressed by Apple. Wanting to keep this thread alive as long as possible for it to be taken seriously by them.

who knows they may even put out a free repair program ;P.

So another update to this issue. I'm now experiencing it for the second time. Since the last update noting has changed whatsoever. Same iOS - no screen protector etc.

Charged the phone overnight (left on charge around 12am and took off 7am).

Waiting for iOS 15 - anyone else had any further look contacting or getting Apple's attention on this?

From what I'm reading all over the place is this is certainly a software issue.

@Apple really need to look into this as I cannot continue to use my phone like this.

Just tested and I think it has something to do with the temperature.

My iphone x started this problem 2 days ago, I upgraded to 14.6 and it worked for a few hours, the next day it went back to this problem again, so I just tried to warm it up as it's cold at my place, and I'm able to type letter p now.

Not sure how long this solution will work, I've called apple support but they have to check lots of things and cannot provide a satisfied answer.
