iPhone 7 Plus Camera won't take pictures & calls can't be heard.

I have a number of odd things happening with my iPhone 7 Plus:

  • Camera will open, but will not take a picture or video regardless of which button is pushed
  • Telephone calls can be answered, but no sound is heard on the phone via speaker or holding the phone to my ear. If connected to airpods, the phone can be used without problems.
  • Amazon Music app opens with a brief red bar at the top of the screen, but when a song is selected, the app indicates there is a playback error and quits.
  • The touchscreen becomes unresponsive at times.

All of these problems are temporarily solved by shutting down and restarting the phone. I can't figure out exactly when or what happens to trigger these problems again, but usually within an hour of restarting the phone, all of these problems reoccur.

I have reset all network settings, reset and reinstalled the phone from a backup and tried just about everything else I've been able to think of or find online.

I have the same problems with my iPhone 7 plus as well. All of the sudden I can’t answer my phone when I get a call and I can’t take pictures. Both operations worked temporarily after I turned off and on my iPhone but problems occurred again. This is very annoying!!!!

Immediately following the iOS 14.4.1 update my iPhone 7 Plus received on 3/7/2021, my phone began having the exact same symptoms - none of my calling apps or cellular calls work (includes Google Voice/Text Now) and the iOS camera app won't take pictures, but third-party apps don't have a problem. I just buried my wife last Friday and I need this **** phone, but I haven't been able to use it! I can't afford to buy a new phone - I'm completely wiped out and it seems like Apple wanted to force me to make a purchase that isn't necessary. Does Apple think they're being cute by building this behavior into iOS by way of the most recent update and blaming my 80% battery capacity? My iPhone 6s Plus and 6 Plus worked until I threw them away - Apple has purposely added conditions to iOS that are programmatically CAUSING these problems and I'm, sure they'll cite some absurd rationale such as safety...

I reset all setting/content three times, even going so far as to not doing a restore the third time. No change - same bad behavior w/default settings, regardless if logged into iCloud or not...

i discovered a couple of things to Remedy the problem. If I use earbuds, the earbuds often work, whereas the audio on phone isn’t working. Also Before I make calls, thru earbuds or phone, I call my secondary phone to see if it’s working first, then I’m good to make a call.

The only thing now I have to overcome, is when I get a call, I have to learn how to answer a call with the earbuds. So, far almost everytime, I can’t seem to take the call thru the earbuds and then the audio on phone isn’t working. So that’s a bummer.

Thankfully, I received the stimulus and now I can afford to go buy a new phone. I researched the 12-Mini and it sounds like the wisest and best choice. The screen is only a tiny fraction smaller than the 7Plus. It’s the bezels on the 7 Plus that make it appear so Huge. I’m looking forward to using the camera on the 12. I hear it’s an Amazing thing....and it’ll be nice to make and receive phone calls again.

This is truly frustrating. Apple updates almost always cause trouble on older devices, and Apple’s response is - “Visit our tech store” which just happens to cost $$ and time.

After the update, my camera, mic and touch screen aren’t functioning consistently. I’m on vacation and happened to mention the issue to the receptionist at my hotel. She has a 6 and has had the same problems.

Apple, are you planning to address this in a timely fashion or should I seek legal counsel? There seems to be a pattern of forced obsolescence with your updates.

I had the exact same problem. I was trying to hold out for the new iPhone 13. One month before it was due to be released my phone became unusable (for all the reasons mentioned here). I have in and bought a new iPhone11. Here’s the kicker. The representative gave me $350 credit toward my new phone and “took” my old phone. I have never had that happen before. Coincidence? I think not. Get rid of any d use be of planned obsolescence.

wow. unfortunately no one offered me any credit. Apple technicians can’t make up their mind if it’s a hardware or software issue. they can’t agree between them. I have asked to speak to someone higher up and I have got told “this is the end of the line, you can’t talk to anybody else” Now I am stuck with a faulty phone that the manufacturer wouldn’t fix, strange thing when it is the iOS. Or as you say, we will “have to upgrade” . I might just go for android…. Sad that I was with apple for over 10 years.

The same thing happened to me, way before 14.x. (Only mic though)

The sure fix is having your Microphone Chip replaced and resoldered (3rd party, about 80 EUR).

happened again a few days ago after dropping it hard on the floor (screen slightly cracked).

Now both the camera and mic are not working.

Seems they are connected somehow. In some Iphone builds i know that you can t silence the camera when taking photos (asia)
