Battery drain after iOS 14 update.

I had installed the new ios 14 and my battery drained from 90% to 10% without me even touching the phone. This has never happened before.

Please Apple fix asap.

The actual “notes” app that comes on the phone. That is where it said it was using a lot of my battery and it said it was running in the background for a long time. Nothing was supposed to even be running in the background but that app kept drawing from my battery nonstop. I deleted it and reinstalled and haven’t had a problem since. Not sure if that’s the problem app everyone is having problems with but you can check. If you go into settings, then down to battery. If you scroll down on the page it shows how much battery time is used on each app. If there’s one that seems like a crazy amount of time, it could be the problem?

Let me know if you find a solution.

I have tried everything with no result.

Apple reps were contradicting each other while looking at my issue.

One of them said it was a software issue. The next tech said, I needed a fresh install of the iOS, the third person disagreed and didn't let me do a fresh install. The last person I spoke with at Apple blamed my battery. But the first person had checked my battery and confirmed I don't have a battery issue.

Frustrated as I have spent several hours listening and following the techs instructions to check anything they asked me to.

My conclusion is that it is easier to blame the battery even though Apple's own level 2 tech advised me my battery is still in good shape and can handle iOS.

The battery on my iPhone 6 SE was working just fine before the iOS 14 update, I could easily go for a whole day without recharging and come home in the evening with over 80% left. Now it is emptying at a frightening rate. Exposure Notifications was identified as using a lot of battery, but switching it off doesn't help. I updated to 14.2 this morning and recharged the battery fully afterwards. It is now only 4.5 h later, I haven't used my phone at all and it's already down to 60%, so no improvement. So it's definitely iOS 14 and not something else, don't come with general advice about battery health.

So now on 14.1 and odd behaviour of my IPhone SE (1st gen) continues, charging overnight, battery is 100% in the morning, disconnect phone. Screen goes black and I get a progress swirl. Then battery indicator is 10%. So I force a reboot, and after that, battery is now 100% and is working normally. Will post again if have any new info. Have seen this regularly before upgrade to 14.1 but never before 14.0.

Latest update and good news: while on Saturday my iPhone battery indicator was still decreasing at a fast rate (from 100% to under 10% in 8 hours), it seems to have gone back to normal after the Saturday evening charge (I was just going to try on Sunday if a connexion with a Bluetooth device would change anything). I have no idea how this came about, but it at least shows that you do not have to reset your device.

I have installed 14.3 beta on se1 and enabled information sharing. I am going to use the popr se1 for such experiments from now on.

From what i have read since 14.0 there are problems with battery drain and pr answer is wait until new ios does reindexing. Wow how much money they are paid to write this 😀 wait till the 14.2 fixes that

on all:

disabled background sync of apps, the 3 apps i installed since 2018 and kept

Reset ram it kind of slightly helped the mini5, but that has huge battery compared to my other social apple devices and one does simply not recharge that device daily.

I am well aware now about the result of factory reset and the upgrade choices available after.

if it just was not the poor battery that on apple is so poor anyway i would not be nagging so much. Bye bye for now 😀

Are you suggesting to use battery saving mode ?

The mini5 does not suit to the old device yet and still its battery drains much faster when below 20% than before. Happened to me last week twice that it shut down. And o use that device for web brosing mostly. First time since i bought that device.

Nor the iphone se2 and it drains like 5% overnight, saw someone weiting this on the forum already.

Basically you will clearly notice that something is hooked up on the 20w charger which did not happen before. So yes its global. I guess bbc wont tell us what to do. No offence ment 😀

This is a software issue not a phone issue. I've experienced the very same issue ever since I upgraded my iPhone to iOS 14.2.x., I was hoping the recent iOS 14.3 was going to fix it but it appears to drain even faster than the the 14.2.x versions. I've gone through several phone OS software wipes attempting to resolve the issue but it doesn't help! Please fix this ASAP as its a software issue.

Normally I’d agree that this is a way to get us to upgrade through battery degradation but there are so many of us with this now- my friend has a really new phone (got it last year & is one generation older iPhone - so just before the 12) and his phone is having Exactly the same issue as my older phone.... both were working fine until the ios14 install(s). It feels like a case of Apple not having done a full and correct impact analysis before pushing this out. I am blown away that they did this in the middle of the pandemic. Remember that This isn’t the first time they’ve had iOS issues... it’s just been long enough thst we got lulled into assuming all was/is running smoothly .
