Open the Settings app, go to General, and then Reset, which is at the bottom of the General screen. Then go to Reset Keyboard Dictionary, which is also at the bottom of the screen. Tap that and you'll be asked to enter your passcode. Note that this will delete any and all custom words you have entered on your keyboard

I’m wondering if this lag has to do with iMessage and pictures in the thread. I was fine most of the day until a thread heavy with pics recently started texting me back and forth, and I was getting crazy typing lag in iMessage. I was in WhatsApp and every time a pop up notification of a text came through, WhatsApp would lag when typing....and WhatsApp never really lags ever. iMessage seems to be the only app with the actual keyboard lag but other apps will show it IF iMessage shows up with a notification. So I’m really wondering if it’s iMessage and pics threads.

So, back in the day when the Web was tiny and I was working in HTML a lot, I remember when some jackass invented the search text predictor popup but failed to make the cache it used sufficiently highly available or low latency. So, remember when a text field was just a text field and every key you typed incurred no execution? So it was fast and easy, you entered data and pressed return. Then, some browser code and/or sometimes even worse javascript code would run on every keypress to try and auto-fill what you were typing. a "Did you mean APPLE?" t. "Did you mean ATwater?" etc. and that required a cache hit, usually off box, slow, and the result was a very delayed keyboard response. Google still does this but having 10 years to work on the problem have a nice local and fast cache as well as async response loop so it doesnt hold up keypresses while it's looking up things. Anyway, I wonder if this is something like that? Some idiot manager at apple trying to be clever by putting a latent feature in a tight loop with a part of the UX that must always remain low latency. ? Anybody know how to check (monitor network off phone when you bring up the keyboard? Or disable all auto-spell auto-correct things? Or run the same IOS version in XCode on your laptop?).

Just to try it again I did this. There's two English dictionaries and one Apple. I turned off all but one English. Still had a full five second lag when I sent a message and went to send another as the read reply waited to Show read. It's definitely linked to iMessage only so it's not Necessarily the keyboard. It's iMessage lagging ojt the keyboard which is exactly why we don’t see it happen in other apps UNLESS iMessage is getting a message in the background or something. Remember, they recoded iMessage in 14 to do that pinned messages crap so they tweaked the app and ****** it up and nobody is taking responsibility for it. Hence why apple is trash. 2 full release candidates in and there’s still a major bug that makes people want to whip these pos phones against a wall.

So this definitely is linked to iMessage. I was just going to type a second text in a row and it lagged hardcore and stopped lagging and everything appeared when the “delivered” word came up under it. But I did the whole turn off iMessage turn back on with FaceTime and literally right after a hard reboot as I was typing this, an iMessage came in and when the banner came up, it lagged while typing this.

After contacting Apple Support unlike deansvr72 has ever done. Jealous little prick.

First they act like it’s a new issue. They have never heard of this issue. They told me to first go to factory reset. Are you kidding?! No way was I going to do that. It would take me a hour to get my phone back to the way it was. If not longer. So that tells me APPLE HAS NO IDEA HOW TO FIX THIS. They have had their head in the sand all this time. Then their fix was to download the newest update. 14.2 Because we all know updates fix phones cough cough cough. Any way, so far the keyboard is not lagging as much after the 14.2 update. Opps take that back. It’s lagging.

So I encourage you all to go here and report this issue. They do not have a fix. Because they haven’t had ENOUGH concern to fix it. Don’t let them tell you a factory reset will fix it. IT WILL NOT.
