Same thing man. I reset it so many times even wiped the device numerous times. Problem returns. I’ve been on 14.3 beta for two full days with no real lag. Now that I’ve jinxed myself let’s see when it occurs again lol
Thank you for the info! Seems like the solution is to wait for Apple to first accept that the bug exists, and second to wait for them to fix it. One of the lowest quality issues they’ve let slip through a lack of care. Man I miss Steve.
No. Again, this is incorrect info. Please stop spreading this. Reset keyboard dictionary does NOTHING. it’s a placebo. It will work momentarily just like a phone reboot and go back to lagging. People need to stop spreading this misinformation.
Couldn't this be worded in a more helpful manner? You make a lot of assumptions in your response.
Not everyone who comes to this site know how it works; and no one deserves this type of snarky response. I am not sure how this answer is listed as helpful, let alone not taken down by a moderator.
I did this on Nov 27, and it’s still holding up. No problems.
The custom dictionary in iOS/iPadOS 14 isn’t compatible with the one from previous OS’s, and resetting the keyboard dictionary might reduce or eliminate the keyboard lag problem. I was doubtful at first, but I went ahead and reset my dictionary, and INSTANTLY the lag problem disappeared!
To do this, go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Keyboard Dictionary.
Well so far all you’ve done is tell me what worked for me, isn’t what works. Do you have anything constructive to add to this thread? Even if I have to reset my keyboard again in 2 weeks, peace at such a bargain.
I tried to do the Keyboard Dictionary reset multiple times.
the thing that worked for me:
I uninstalled all the 3rd party keyboards. Like gif keyboard and etc. and reinstalled them.
Seems to have fixed it for now.
Thank you for pointing out the 3rd party keyboards. I don’t use them, but it’s good to know about the potential lag if I do.
So far the reset, with no 3rd party keyboards, has held up for a few weeks.
fingers crossed.
still isn’t fixed in 14.3. It’s somewhat better where I haven’t had it lag in iMessage but now every other app lags when a text comes through. Apple can’t get anything right. It’s time to go back to a real OS and get a Samsung again.
Hey all here’s a random thought...wonder if anything from the carrier had to do with it. Everyone so far in person I’ve met with the issue has Verizon except one guy who is on ATT First net who’s never seen the keyboard lag or the notification not sounding issue ever. But everyone else I know is Verizon. What’s everyone in here rocking? Mine is an unlocked 11 pro bought from apple, but I’m using it on Verizon. Hmm
How about this we stop making excuses for a billion dollar company that charges us hundreds of dollars for phones that we expect to work. We shouldn’t have to disconnect anything or go to settings and change anything for it to work.. the phone should work the way other phones work
The option “predictive” text seems to lag some text input, especially whenever there are more than one keyboard installed on the iPhone.
Since I’ve upgraded from an iPhone 6s to a iPhone SE2, the keyboard seems to lag for 2-5 seconds, spewing out the keyboard buffer afterward.
Isolating the issue:
1/ I already did “Reset Keyboard Dictionary” which did not work at all for the Dutch keyboard.
2/ Turning off “Predictive” takes away the bug entirely, which isolates the problem to be only with predictive input.
3/ The problem is active with the phone connected -and- disconnected (airplane mode) from the internet, which isolates it to a local problem of the device.
4/ As soon as I use the Belgium (Dutch) keyboard, it starts to lag again, which isolates the problem towards the predictive input of international keyboards only.
5/ The bug is however not active when an alternative keyboard is in use (like GBoard) and when reverting to only one language in the keyboard settings available, like English (UK) in my case while typing in this report.
6/ Additionally, the keyboard does not put capital letters at the start of a sentence, which might be part of this bug. This was not with my previous device and my iPad 5th generation.
This problem seems to be reported through the discussion forums before, but without extensive research what exactly is causing the bug. This post has a temporary solution for this issue, including an extensive diagnosis of the problem at hand.
I didn’t get any lag at all using the English (UK) keyboard, which might point to the different languages available in the keyboard settings of iOS.
The problem is not reproducible on an iPad 5th generation, even after upgrading to the latest iOS v14.3, so it might be not in the iPad iOS.
With friendly regards,
Gunther.
Asanokatana - You seem to be incapable understanding this basic concept so I’ve done you a favor by explaining this in great detail. Now there’s no excuse for your continuation in being absurdly ignorant..
You’d do well to keep your trap shut if you’re going to be a toddler that’s throwing a hissy-fit and feels the need to be disrespectful. Perhaps you’re not able to apply deductive reasoning to figure out different scenarios as to why someone may have posted in this specific way, but one way: could be the person's first visit and doesn’t know the ins-and-outs as opposed to someone that’s been using the discussions portion of this site for awhile.
I’m not going to lie and say I would do the exact same thing as Bbg_Tayy. If I have a question and I’m unfamiliar with the layout and what shortcuts are able to be used, guess what.. I’m going to start my own thread and ask my question in the only way that’s apparent to me at the time I need an answer. I couldn’t care any less if a multitude of people asked the exact same question I have.. I’m going to ask the question.
The keyboard lag is the worst (terrrrrible) in Notes. I use Notes a lot so this is no bueno! Apple pleeeeeease fix!!! I tried resetting the keyboard as another user suggested but this did absolutely nothing to help with the lag in Notes. I don’t seem to have the issue in any other app. Just Notes. I guess that’s a lower priority item for most users...
Update: More history I have in my text messages without clearing the dictionary, the worse the lag gets. Its so annoying. Whatever bug "fix" you did in the last update totally ruined the dictionary. Is there a bug open?
