Delayed notifications

I'm on IOS 14, and this also happened when I was on 13. The notifications on my phone are not working and are delayed by sometimes as much as 5 minutes. If someone calls me on FaceTime, it rings for them but my screen doesn't even turn on. Messages sent to me are delayed, on imessages and WhatsApp as well.

Do not disturb is off

Notifications are turned on, all settings.

Bedtime is off

Reset networks settings

Reset my phone once but restored from a cloud backup

Reset all settings

Any help will be extremely appreciated.

Guys i found a fix to this problem.

I’m using iPhone 8 Plus on 14.4.1, i just did a reset all settings. After that reset, the notification works as it should. And then i changed the keyboard settings in my phone then the problem comes back. After minutes of trying to find the culprit, i think it’s the character preview.

  1. Go to settings
  2. General
  3. Keyboard
  4. Turn character preview to on

This fix it for me, please report back if your problem fixed too!

Hello Guys. I am also experiencing this for quite some time. I already did complete reset of my phone via itunes but the problem persisted. Last night, I did a reset of my Apple password and reselect my region/country. So far the issue has lessen in severity but there are still occasional delays.

I’m not sure if this will help others here but hope you could give it a try.

Thanks.

Do you have an airpods pro? I'm not so sure, and still observing, but can you try removing your airpods by clicking "forget device" on the Bluetooth section. Also, hard reset your airpods by holding the button on the case for 15 seconds and reconnect. I'm still observing and kind of skeptical of it, but I wish this is the cause of this issue 😪😥

If the same thing happens to you with Wi-Fi (without mobile data), then the problem is software (iOS). In my case the problem was fixe by my carrier mobile.

Clearly my solution doesn't apply to everyone. And I don't think Apple engineers read this thread, but we can write in:

There is another much bigger thread where they report the same problem:

Same problem here but in my case seems to affect only WhatsApp. Most of the notifications got delayed one hour. I tried everything. I suspect is a server side issue on Apple.

Suspiciously it started to happen after an IOS 14.something upgrade. My AppleID is quite old and so is my WhatsApp account. I guess I've received really LOTS of push notifications since my first iPhone 2G. Don't know if this could be linked. Maybe some overflow on some int16 which should be an int64?

Could be. Indeed I have the same discussion open with WhatsApp support and they assure me it's not on their side.

Also due to the huge number of people reporting push notifications not showing on time on their iPhones, to me something is "stinky" here.

It also could be that there is a bug on Apple APNs which is only triggered under certain circumstances (for instance having sent lots of notifications to a certain user and app).

Or maybe delayed notifications are part of the battery saving thing apple products do that we can’t control? Between making the cpu slower, delaying notifications, or shorter battery life, i think I would prefer eventually shortening the battery life since phones are pretty much at a 2-year lifespan these days. What do you guys think? I mean my 11 pro max is a year old and I’m loving the fact that it’s still reaching 24 hours per charge. But that’s the reason notifications are getting delayed, I don’t think it’s worth it. I would prefer just paying for new battery every couple of years or just get a new iPhone(assuming the notif thing gets fixed)
