Apple Watch 6 wallet problem

The wallet app on my watch 6 is crashing when I use any store card with barcode.

I used wallet on my watch (series 6 with ios7.0.2) to buy a starbucks coffee. I opened the starbucks card from the wallet on the watch and used the bar code to buy a coffee. Closed the wallet app. Now the wallet will not open correctly with a double tap of the side button. I get a black screen. I tried to open the wallet app with the Icon and I still get black screen with the words "wallet" on top left and the time on top right.

After updating my fiancee's watch 3 with the latest software ios 7.0.2. we get the same errors.

Has anyone else have this problem?

Thanks,

Bill

Hi Everyone, After speaking with the Tier2 rep, there is an issue with the pairing with iPhone and Watch. The only option to resolve is a complete wipe and restore But Not from normal iTunes or iCloud backup.

> If you do not have iCloud storage purchase the 50Gb for [.99] one month.

>On iCloud settings make sure photos, contacts, messages, health, wallet, key chain are enabled.

a)Make sure you're connected to power and on WiFi

1:Create a list of all your apps

2:Make sure the key chain is updated with all your app information [username, email, pw] or 3rd party app like 1 password.

3:As for music If you have an iMAC or iPad and you share across devices your music will be restored.

4:Once complete go to iCloud backup and backup now. This will push all data. when finished.

Wipe data from iPhone and Apple Watch

1:Apple watch settings erase all content and settings but keep the cellular plan.

2:iPhone erase all content and settings.

Restore iPhone

1:Setup iPhone as new [manual] Do not restore from recent iCloud backup.

2:Once you re-add your account from iCloud all data photos, contacts, messages, health, wallet, the key chain will get pushed back down. estimate 1.2 hrs

3:Go into Wallet and re-add cards and go back through the verification process.

4:Re-add Apple watch manually not from backup.

5:Apple watch setup wallet app and re-add cards.

6:Reinstall all iOS apps.

>I did these steps on iOS 14.3 & Watch 7.2 and now the Apple watch wallet app works as expected, I have my QR Star bucks, Panera, dave n buster loaded back. I'm now finished update to iOS 14.4 and watch 7.3 working as expected.

-My only left-over issue was re-doing all my custom ring tones, as they're kept in the files app but cant be pushed so had to do those over again.

>Delete any Prior iTunes or iCloud backup and create a newer one to move forward.

Good Luck, All.

Got my first apple watch a couple of days ago (S6 running 7.3.2) and I have the same issue with my grocery store app. I found a workaround for now though.

If you launch the wallet app from the app view instead of double tapping the home button, then choose your QR-card and try to go back - the view crashes in the same manner as via the home button. But since it's an open app instead of a built in view - you can simple the close the app and reset the state. Annoying? Yes. But at least you don't have to restart your watch in order to regain access to your wallet.

You can also just press the home button while the qr code is visible, and i won't crash at all. If you then double tap the home button the other cards show up as normal.

Here's a short video. Sorry for the bad quality, but I couldn't find a way to do screen recording on the watch:

Hallelujah! I fix the wallet issue. I factory reset my iphone and didn't back up from existing backup. I also reset apple watch to factory.

When I went into wallet on iphone there were two old coupons still in the wallet , I deleted them , then added credit cards and starbuck store card to iphone and watch. All is back to normal. Now I have to add all my 100+ apps back onto the iphone manually. ugh. I may look into getting software that will allow me to selective add apps etc back onto iphone.

Yes. I tried rebooting the watch and double tapped the power button, it worked for the credit/debit cards. But after using Starbucks or Tim Hortons loyalty cards (barcode), it would give me the black screen (sometimes would show/flash "hold near reader"). Once that happens, I cannot access my credit/debit cards anymore. I have to reboot the watch again to access them. I also tried removing all the loyalty cards I have in the wallet (starbucks, tim hortons, air miles, etc.), it works perfectly. But then, those cards will be deleted from your phone as well.

I reinstalled those loyalty cards back and it gave me the same issue so I ended up deleting them again. Hopefully this will be resolved soon on the watch because it works fine using my phone.

I'm having this issue also.

iPhone 14.3 and S6 cellular Watch OS 7.2

I have reset the watch a setup as new with the same result. The only way to stay functional is to remove my QR cards, AAA, Dave and busters, and Starbucks.

Which make it difficult to use the watch by itself, I do suggest that we all create a support ticket and reference this forum thread.

I posted my response on Jan 31, 2021, after speaking with Apple support.

By doing the reset and restore I have not had any issues. As of today updating to the current iOS 14.4.1 & Watch OS 7.3.2 'm still not having any problems. I can use my QR code for Starbucks, Panera, and Dave n Busters.

As I mentioned I did think a software update would resolve but this is now been ongoing for 6 months It's time for you to perform a reset and get back option to use the watch as stand-alone.

You can resolve this yourself.

It seems like everybody posting on this thread is having problems with wallet cards that use QR codes or bar codes. I'm having the same problem but with my VISA card (both on my old Series 3 watch and my new Series 6). Double-clicking the side button should bring up my default payment card (the VISA). That's how it worked for years on my old watch. Now it brings up a black screen, and "Hold near reader" flashes at the top of the screen. BUT if I tap the crown and then tap the Wallet icon, I see all the cards in my wallet, with a "Double-click to pay" animation next to the side button. Double-clicking the side button then brings up my credit card as normal.

The extra step of launching the wallet first is not as handy as just double-clicking the side button, but it's a LOT simpler than some of the backup & restore processes described in other posts.

This started with the update to watchOS 7.0.2. It's not just my watch 6 but also my fiancee's watch 3 when she updated to watckos 7.0.2 same problem. Can someone try to use a store app with barcode like starbucks to reproduce this problem. You don't even have to scan to barcode, jusy display it then cancell out and try to open wallet again. I get a black screen.
