Qi charging iPhone 12

I had my car updated last week and now it works fine

We just took delivery of a 2021 XC90 this week. Neither an 11 Pro or 12 Pro Max will charge on the Volvo pad. We receive the obstruction error (there is nothing in the vehicle except us and the phone). Both are running 14.2.1. No case and still no luck getting either to charge.

Has anyone successful had an iPhone charge on the Volvo pad?

Same here. Brand new XC90 and the iPhone 12 pro max isn’t charging on it. (Wife’s XR does).

Volvo have done a full set of updates to the software but no joy. Haven’t tried the reboot trick yet but that’s only going to be a workaround.

Its annoying as I paid extra for the Qi pad. The dealer stated that Volvo are aware of the issue but no fix from them as yet

Yet another person that has run into the issue. My iPhone 11 Pro Max has no issues with my XC60 wireless charger but my wife's 12 Pro Max (iOS 14.3) runs into the problems described above. Apple are you listening!!!!

My wife and I have a Volvo XC60 2021 (early) with Qi and we both have iPhones.

My iPhone 8 charges perfect on the charge pad in the XC60 while my wife's brand new iPhone 12 mini does not charge in the XC60 (but both are charging perfect on our in-house Apple MagSafe charger).

I spoke to a senior engineer at Apple Denmark and he told me that Apple, Denmark were not aware of any problems... strange...

I guess I'll have to buy either a new car or buy my wife a(nother) new phone :-)

I also contacted my Volvo dealer about this issue and shared the link to the Swedish article and I also asked them how and when are we going to receive the update. I’ll also share any details I receive about this issue.

I have same phone and same issue with QI wireless charging in my 2021 vw jetta. Also tried out an qi wireless phone holder in the car and the phone would get so hot it would give a warning that the phone must cool down before it can be used.

I’m having the same problem with my 2021 Volvo S60 and am very, very disappointed and annoyed with Apple as the problem seems to be exclusive to their iPhone 12. They should come up with (and quickly) a fix for this issue or be willing to work closely with car manufacturers who are increasingly including wireless chargers in their vehicles. Folks even pay extra in some cases for an optional wireless charger in their car. To find out, after paying $50K for a car that the advertised wireless charger will not work with an iPhone 12 is maddening. Are there any Apple staff who read these threads and can offer concrete information on this issue?

According to some reports, a software update for the Volvo XC40 recharge (all-electric version) that came out this week fixes the iPhone 12 charging issue. So, hopefully a fix is coming soon for wireless charging on the other Volvos.

Same here - took delivery of 2021 XC60 today. iPhone 11 works on the charging pad - iPhone 12 does not.

, like the r we st of you have this problem. IPhone 12 pro Max doesn't work. Wife's 11 pro Max works fine.

as I wrote earlier in this discussion Volvo told me that there might be a patch out before easter. They're actually going to call me later today, so I can give an update then

I connected with volvo customer care - they indicated this is a known issue but do not intend to issue a fix:

Regrettably iPhone 12 models do not conform to the Qi standard for wireless charging because they implemented a magnet array on the back of the phone (Apple MagSafe). All non-apple wireless phone chargers detect the magnets as a foreign object and will not allow the charger to work or it may only work very intermittently. For customers with iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro smartphones, regular charging via the USB or USB-C is still available.

There will be no fix for this. This change was made by Apple and they instruct people to use their MagSafe chargers.
