Mail is slow since updating to iOS 15

What is causing email to download so slowly that it has virtually stopped since updating to iOS 15?

Replying to myself, with additional info. You might need to also reset your network settings after disabling the Protect Mail Activity and Hide My IP.

Settings/General/Transfer or reset iPhone/reset/reset network settings.

if you look at the Protect Mail activity description it says it’s using a multiple proxies. Then add Hide My IP and now you seemingly have put a bunch of hops and relays in between yourself and your email and then hid your IP so if it could get to you after all that, you are still hiding from it.

The features sound good and cool and it would be great if they worked (and maybe there is some Apple Techno Magic they do to make it all work some how), but I think if you want speed, you can’t turn on all the blocks/hides/reroutes just yet and expect it to work like it did before.

I have the same issue, thought it was my email provider, but recently have tried a few things and have noticed the following :-

  1. I turned off all settings below ‘Settings’ - ‘Mail’ - ‘Privacy Protection’ and this made no difference.
  2. If I check email on a non-Apple program such as Outlook it is fine.
  3. My email tends to work fine for the first 3-4 emails but then grinds to a halt on the 5-6th email saying “Loading” for about 20 seconds, this can be on emails I’ve previously already read also.
  4. If whilst an email says “Loading” if I disconnect WiFi or if already disconnected reconnect it, the changing of the network makes my email kick in again for 3-4 emails, but then stops again.
  5. If I swipe up and end the ‘Mail’ program and then reload it, it works again for a while, but again after reading a few emails I get stuck on “Loading’ again.
  6. Having to do the change network fix or end Mail is not a workable solution.

I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max 256GB, 165GB of free space. My iPad Pro M1 does exactly the same. Both are on the latest IOS version, 15.4.1 currently.. My email is connecting via SMTP. This issue is very frustrating, I rely on my email constantly..

I have been having the same issue as posted before. This is absolutely ridiculous. Are use my phone for work and need to receive my emails exactly when they are sent to me without delay. It is very important for me to process reservations.

not sure if this will help someone, but I have also downloaded the Gmail mail app. Trust me, we shouldn’t have to I’ve been using the Mail app for the past 10 years with no issues until the iOS updates. It’s funny how your phone updates by itself whether you wanted to or not. You paid $1000 for the phone and you don’t even have control over it.

now that I have the Gmail app at least I know I’m receiving an email then I can go onto my Mail app and refresh it and receive the email which again we shouldn’t have to do. Sometimes it takes several minutes for the email to show within the mail app when I have already received a notification from Gmail.

i’ll say it again, we shouldn’t have to do this but maybe this will help somebody as a failsafe

"Clearing Temporary Internet Files made a big difference. Mail is loading much quicker. Over 100gb of free space on the phone and iPad. i still think it was snappier pre ios15. thanks for the help though!"

Wowzers! -- So, when is the last time you cleared it? How long have you had this device? It would take years for all of that to be the case, if Temporary Internet Files took that much data.

I have tried all of the solutions above. Mail is still extremely slow to load on my iphone Xs after update to ios 15. This is my work phone and i need it to load email quickly like it did the minute before i updated to ios. This has to be a known issue. What is the solution please? If there is none, then please let me know how to revert back to the previous version of ios which worked just fine for me.

I’ve got an iPhone 12 Pro, so not too old but I’m having the same issue. I’ve tried everything that everyone has suggested including deleting the app & reinstalling, I’ve even done a complete re reset. None of it makes any difference. It’s an ios15 issue and anything else is just apple playing for time to sort it out without being seen as responsible.

I have the same problem. I tried every fix suggested and nothing works.

it is an update problem, I have an iphone i haven’t upgraded and zero problems. I have checked my mail changing to cellular data, hoping it was my router, and I was wrong.

Your sent and other mail stored in your device is still there, I can see some listed occasionally. But cannot do anything with it.

contact Apple, great idea, let your voices be heard. It is a bug in their update, no question. Or an oversight, who knows.

This is one issue have complained about several times .it actually started with IOS 14. we had a lot of hopes that IOS 15 was to sort out the matter. Unfortunately it's still the same. When you have the old models of iphone's running 13.0 and below. You realize its working fine. And wonder why apple keeps on releasing new updates without considering first the challenged being faced by the clients.

We spend so much to purchase the phone yet the services are becoming very poor. soon we start moving back to Android unless this issue is addressed.

Same frustrating issue. Open email app and all I see is a white screen with arrows on the right waiting for the email to appear. Takes forever to see the emails. Often have to close the app and re-open to see email. I had no problems prior to iOS15.4 and have not changed any settings after installing iOS 15.4. There is some issue with iOS 15.4.

iOS 15.4.1, iPhone 13 Pro.
