Storage used up even after deleting apple mail app

when i checked storage in setting it is showing around 15 gb used by apple mail app. So i deleted the app as its way too much for an app. But even after deleting this mail app storage still shows same amount used.

Apple—This is ridiculous. Someone needs to respond to this and acknowledge this is a known issue with a fix in the works! I have tried all of the steps in this forum; removing all accounts, restarting, offloading, deleting— EVERYTHING. This post needs a bump because my mail app is taking up 56 gigs and I can’t rid of them!!

I see this is a older posts but wanted to share I removed most of the data from my mail app . There are a few suggestions in here that are true you have to delete accounts in settings -mail . I had 30 GB being used by my mail app after I did that and deleted it it went down to 20 GB then I just kept reinstalling the app and then deleting the app and it keeps going lower and lower I’m down now to only seven gigs of space used it literally freed up 23 GB ,, it’s really weird but once I get it all the way down I will never use that mail app again.. I just use the Gmail app takes zero space on my iPhone . As a matter of fact I just did another delete and reinstall look at the photos I uploaded I deleted the app it had 8 GB reinstalled it it went down to five now if I delete it again it’ll just keep going down until it empties all this space it’s using for nothing anyway that’s what work for me hopefully everybody figured it out hey Apple get rid of your mail app

Thanks for response

but I did all of that and still I have 40 Gb of space used by email app.

the only account is there is my ICloud, should I sign out? And then restart the iPhone ?

You said : if you delete all accounts you won’t have contacts or calendars on your phone, either. Is that what you want?

no that’s not what I want,I want to free my space wich use by email data .

i may try the backup thing you said.

anyway that’s the last purchase from apple, after Steve apple became piece of **** , in this year alone I made more than 30 people to buy something els and I continue that till we see the down fall of this ****.

Bro I did update to15,5 and it doesn’t change anything.

i am still suffering from this ****.

not just us there is so many people and apple not even respond to it, not even a certified apple worker answer us. Apple became piece of ****. This is the last purchase from apple.make sure you do too and people around you , because they don’t care about us ,after Steve apple is gone,

this problem is simply because they collect everything from us even the emails that we received, and they say apple is safe and china want to control us .

Hi everybody, the used space was making my device unusable so I finally decided to reset to factory settings. When putting back the backup the “used space” of Mail Documents and Settings came back! So I did a second reset and manually put back everything. I however encountered quite some synchronisation issues (freshly installed apps refused to sync through iCloud - I think the sync data was in backup only). Not a happy camper!

I am having the same problem! I have tried everything that everyone has posted on here to no avail. It doesn’t seem possible to actually delete the mail app. Every time I do, it just shows that it was off loaded and it still is taking up the same amount of storage on my iPhone as it was to start with! I have cleaned out my mail online and have done all buy cancel my my email account with the server. I just don’t understand why this is such a problem and there is no fix?

DOING THIS FIXED THIS ISSUE FOR ME...

I had this same issue too and I'm not sure if this will fix it for you or not, but it worked on my end. I had already offloaded the app and deleted the app and then I came here to see if anyone else was having this same issue. After reading through some threads I saw that people were still having issues even after erasing and resetting their iPads (so I'm not sure if this will work for those people), but I thought I'd add a step before I erased it all and it did the trick for me. I went to:

Settings > iCloud (in my Apple ID profile) > Manage Storage (right at the top under the bar that shows your storage usage) > Backups > iPad > and then I deleted that backup completely.

One note: When I saw there was an iPhone backup listed along with the iPad's I decided to check my iPhone's storage to see if Mail was using a ton of storage on my phone as well and it was only showing 2 gb instead of 20. Then I checked Mail's settings and saw that they were the same as what my iPad had so I wonder if somewhere along the line these iPad backups might be what is causing this issue? I chose not to delete the iPhone backup on my iPad after I checked this out.

Then I went to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Erase all Content and Settings

Another note: When it reset it came to the Welcome screen on the iPad and I chose to use my iPhone to restore its settings. It's possible that you may want to skip that completely if your iPhone storage showed high gbs used, but since mine didn't I chose to try it. I wish I had written down a screen that came up later and asks if you want to do something, I think it was restore your apps maybe? I can't remember the exact wordage. I know that I chose the last option to not bring in anything or have them restore anything. Again I can't remember what the wording was. But I thought it's better to be safe than sorry in that instance. Then I just downloaded the apps I wanted and started from scratch.

It's worth noting that I don't use my iPad for much of anything besides tv/movie apps at this point so erasing everything and starting over wasn't much of a risk for me. If you're not one of those people I don't know what to tell you. But this worked for me. Just thought it might for someone else. Hope it helps!!

I am having this issue with mail storage also!!! In conjunction with Apple’s assistance. I’ve had other issues in the past & it’s maddening the “geniuses”, senior “advisors” fix all option is to fully restore. Believe it or not Apple, for some of us that is not an option we have. I bought a MBP last year & have had to restore that clunker more times than the law should allow. I don’t even bother using it anymore. Apple “support”, just do better.

Another thing that really doesn’t sit well with me about this company is their developer program. Did you know that literally anyone can become an apple developer? You just have to pay some fees. There’s absolutely no vetting, no interview, no personality test, nothing, zilch, nada. So yeah, Apple allows those who could have zero moral compass, business ethics, possible sociopaths, unethical hackers even to develop what we install onto our devices. Cool, huh?

I digress. I’ve read everyone’s complaint and the amounts of Gb this issue is taking up… My amount was 119Gb for the past 4-5 months but somehow it has miraculously dropped down to 323Kb.

I totally agree... apple doesn't give a ...... about the customer. It commands you to do as they want.. period.

Apple storage is the most expensive storage on any device and we pay hundreds of dollars for them to fill that storage space with garbage. Even android have better ways to clear cache and junk data... but it seems that apple make better hardware than software.

I found a weird semi-solution.

If you delete the Mail app, redownload it, then delete again, the storage marker for how much space Mail is using doesn't change. BUT! The overall usage space on the phone DOES.

So... repeat the above process (delete, download, delete again) until your available storage space stops increasing. This is a pretty stupid solution, but it seems to work. (Even though the phone will continue to claim massive storage for the Mail app.)

The mail app contains NO DATA except for some settings; it just displays content synced from your mail server. When you delete the mail app all of the messages that you synced from your mail provider's server are still on your phone. To actually delete that downloaded mail you must go to Settings/Mail/Accounts and delete the mail ACCOUNT or accounts, then restart the phone. This will delete your downloaded mail.

I think everyone in this chain, myself included, as turned off/deleted the accounts. It seems if you delete the app beforehand however, no amount of reinstalling and removing the accounts, will fix it.

My wife deleted the app and after I reinstalled it and removed the accounts, rebooted, etc. the space is still used. Factory reset may be the only option.
