OK I can add to this. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max, my 14th iPhone as I have owned them all from day one.
It’s scratched. A lot.
Im very careful with my phones, and haven’t required a case or screen protector for at least the last 4 or 5 phones I’ve had.
my wife has my previous iPhone 13 Pro Max, which is a year older, treated exactly the same as my 14 and not scratched at all.
I raised this with Apple support a few days ago, They recommended a 50mile round to my nearest Apple Store.
That was today.
the ‘genius’ I spoke to (their term not mine) said two interesting things.
Mainly though, they said this is cosmetic damage and get lost.
No one could explain why I was advised to drive 50 miles and waste 2 hours of my life to hear this.
in summary, if you treat an iPhone 14 Promax carefully, like your previous phones that were fine, this one won’t be.
it REQUIRES a screen protector. In which case for a phone at this price point I would argue it should be factory supplied and fitted properly in a dust-free environment.
At the very least, contrary to the false claim on the Apple website that implies improved scratch and chip resistance they should warn this phone may not be as scratch resistant as previous models due to improved shatter performance.
I’m not arguing that improved shatter resistance at the expense of scratch resistance is bad or wrong, just that Apple need to tell us this before a £1,400 phone is scratched - not after.
had I know this, I would of course have fitted a screen protector on purchase, up to now I never needed one and that is my point.
Im not done with this and have raised a complaint with Apple about this.
BTW two separate people from Apple today (one in the store, one on phone support) both said the same thing about shatter v scratch, so it’s obviously widely known to Apple staff, who knew this in user land? I certainly didn’t.

This thread is about scratching, not about preventing it, and it is not about screenprotectors. You have made your screenprotector point many times now. Please refrain from posting in this thread about screenprotectors. You are not helping the discussion. Thank you.
This forum exists to provide solutions to problems users are experiencing.
I will continue to post here to offer the two solutions to the problem:
1) Prevention: apply a screen protector.
2) Fix for a scratched screen: Make an appointment with your local Apple Store and they will determine whether screen replacement is free under warranty or whether there will be a charge:

The Belkin UltraGlass Screen protector is $39.99 at the US Apple Store, (39,95 € at the French Apple Store just to get a price in Euros) and they will apply it in-store.
Perfectly with zero spots. If they do get dust or spots under the protector, they will apply another at their cost until they get it right.
I stated I do not work for Apple nor does anyone else here not identified as an Apple employee.
I can't say it enough: If you think it is a fault with your phone, make an appointment to have your phone examined and Apple will make a determination as to whether it is a warranted issue:

Hello ~ None of us work for Apple…we volunteer to help our fellow forum members. I for one can tell you this any Apple product I have gets a screen protector and a case. With my iPhone an additional back glass protector and a camera protector. None of my devices have a scratch on them. Put a screen protector on.

It depends on what you did that caused the scratches.
If for example your pocket might have something hard in it that caused the other scratches, it will continue to.
As always, the best way to insure no further scratches occur is to install a screen protector.

@Dogcow-Moof, just wondering why you have dismissed almost every customer experience on this thread?
Because multiple independent scientific tests have proven the iPhone 14 screen is no more scratch-prone as those on older iPhones.
No one has yet proven anything different using industry-standard procedures.
If you or someone else with an already damaged iPhone wishes to prove otherwise, I will be more than happy to accept your test results using standard tools that exist for just that purpose.
Yes, I know those test tools are pricy, so you might want to approach a local school science department or college geology department who already have multiple sets of those tools lying around if you can use them for a test.
Certainly any number of YouTube influencers would have done so already to "shame" Apple if they could.
My earlier post introduces the Mohs hardness scale if you're otherwise unfamiliar with it.
Anything from a different pair of pants to keeping your phone in a pocket with different keys than you had when you had an earlier iPhone could cause the issue.

i bought 14 pro max with apple care +, and using it from 2 months!
my screen also has a moderate or visible scratch on glass! Can you someone advice on this, how to resolve it
Bob Timmons is correct. AppleCare+ does not cover cosmetic damage. Read the post I wrote to the user just above your post and put a screen protector on your phone, which will likely hide scratches you've already gotten and prevent future scratches.
Independent tests show the screen on the 14 Pro Max is exactly as scratch-resistant as the one on the 12 Pro Max.

Is there a possibility to swap out parts through the Apple Care plan for this?
If the screen is damaged enough that you can't use it, you could get it repaired under AppleCare+. It would cost you $29 dollars if you have an iPhone 14 Pro.
If the scratches do not interfere with the functioning of the phone, Apple usually won't do anything as they don't do repairs for cosmetic issues.
A screen protector is very inexpensive - around $20 - and would have entirely prevented this issue.
When you buy a car, if you don't apply a clear bra to the front end, the paint is subject to rock chips.
When you buy a residence, you have to maintain it.
The price of an item is of no consequence when it comes to protecting it; in fact because it is an expensive device, one would think you would be more likely to apply a screen protector to protect the screen.
Scratches may occur for a variety of reasons, so just because you were lucky with an older device, it does not mean the hardness of your new phone's screen is lower; in fact it is no different from at the very least the iPhone 12 and 13, which also had Ceramic Shield screens, not to mention other premium smartphones from other vendors.
Your comment about old iPhones is exactly like saying you've never been in a car accident; that doesn't mean someone won't run into you five minutes after you've driven your brand new dream car off the lot.
There are various articles at third party websites that detail this further that can be found through use of a search engine.
Do an Internet search; you will find multiple independent reviewers who do scratch tests of each new model of iPhone (and Galaxy and Pixel) when they are released.
Each time the Mohs hardness (scratch resistance) turns out to be around 6.

Same here. My iPhone 14 Pro Max has been getting scratches since day 1, and it's still ongoing.
It's crazy because I'm super careful with my phone.
Very disappointed.
And yet, you still haven't installed a good quality screen protector, which would prevent more scratches and likely hide the ones you have? Complaining about something which can be solved easily doesn't make a lot of sense.
The Apple reps I spoke to yesterday both told me it was worse - I merely agreed with them. Maybe you should correct them not me.
You don’t compare to pre-ceramic shield models, I suspect because they were more scratch resistant.
I have no problem spending $30 on a screen protector, I even just ordered one, albeit after the damage is done.
The point you are going to great lengths to miss is that I previously never needed one and now I apparently do.
I can only speak for myself but none of my previous iPhones have scratched without screen protectors and this one has despite treating them the same, what conclusion would you draw in my position?

Along with the release of each device we also see multiple reviews from YouTube content creators among others who use scientific tests to determine the scratch resistance of the screens using Mohs hardness scale scratch tools.
The scratch rating obtained that way hasn’t changed since at least the iPhone X.
Quite true. And I've watched just about every one of the scratch test YouTube videos made. Jerry (rigs something) is usually a great one for such tests. And you're right that nothing much has changed in last few years of iPhone screens in terms of how they scratch. Which we know, they ALL do.

funny as I was never peddled a screen protector in the past, but this time I was, and I was like no I don’t need it because of how mine was in such good condition for five years in one case that was falling apart when I upgraded.
As Dogcow-Moof noted in the post just above yours, the type of glass used has changed over the years. It is more shatter resistant but somewhat less scratch resistant. For most people, this is a good trade-off as a phone with a shattered screen is much less usable than one with some scratches on it.
