Same on mine. I've never used a screen protector and never had a single scratch on any previous model of iphone I've had (and I've had a bunch of them). Usually kept in pocket on its own, but after a few months I have 3 rather large somewhat deep scratches (that I can physically feel with my fingernail). I do believe the quality of this glass isn't as good as previous models. :-(

I have applecare but seems ridiculous to replace the screen for a few scratches, and no actual cracks or brokenness. I believe Apple should recall the screens on these and offer free replacements with higher quality ones.

Hey Nick, I’m sorry hear about you experience and 50 miles disappointing trip an Apple Store.

We’re all here have or are experiencing same with iPhone 14 screen. I’m have 14pro.

I’m aware that there are couple of people on this chat most likely paid by apple to divert the attention away from this issue but if you decide to take the legal route, I will be very happy to support you and I’m sure other people I’m this chat will do too.

Generally apple support is very good, so will speak to them too and share my findings here too.

Thanks for sharing your unpleasant experiencing.

If you post what you’ve done in attempt to get some kind of resolve - your post will be removed.

I have never needed any kind of screen protector with any iPhone ever owned.

The most infuriating part of it all is that Apple KNOWS this is an issue and yet there was NEVER any suggestion to get a cheap after market screen sticker to protect my $1,400 phone that I will use for the unknown amount of time I have this thing.

Hello ~ I am posting what I have done. Every single Apple device I have ever owned right out of the box has had a case ,screen protector, camera protector and back glass protector (if applicable) Period. I have never had any damage to screen, finish or back glass (on iPhone.) I look at it from the point of view of insurance. I am extremely hard on my devices due to a physical disability and do all I can to keep them protected. I am not against you only advising it may be best to add a screen protector. Same discussion on many of the android forums.

It’s pretty widely known to buy a screen protector for any phone regardless of whether you’ve used one before, which is why there is a whole section of the wall devoted to them at physical Apple Stores.

Apple “knows” it’s an issue to the degree it is an industry issue; Apple doesn’t make their own glass, they get it from a supplier (though made with their modifications) like Google and Samsung do.

The screen on iPhone is NOT ceramic coated. Apple NEVER said it was ceramic coated. They call the glass "ceramic shield." which is more durable. But that doesn't mean it's impossible to scratch. There's a tradeoff between a screen which is harder to scratch and one which is harder to break. The tradeoff is glass which is harder to scratch is more brittle, which makes it easier to break. A screen which is harder to break, is actually easier to scratch. Most people would rather pay a few dollars for a good quality screen protector as opposed to spending hundreds of dollars to replace a cracked screen.

People here keep misinterpreting what was meant by durable. Not breaking as easily, is indeed more durable. There are plenty of articles about the new formula screens you can google if you'd like. And perhaps one day someone will create glass which is harder to scratch and harder to break, but no one has figured that out yet.

Apple installs screen protectors on iPhone in their stores every day of the week. They wouldn't sell screen protectors if there was no need or benefit. I personally wouldn't have a $1000+ phone which wasn't protected right out of the box.

Not a bad batch. iPhone 14 is more prone to screen scratching than the previous models but less likely to crack if you drop your phone but apple failed to mention this, so we could use a screen protector.

I do have an apple care plan and have opened a case with apple support. I have explained my concern to them and have been offered a free screen replacement. I’m planning to replace the screen a put a screen protector, hopefully no more scratches after that.

With all due respect, I don’t think you understand and trying to push the same agenda of putting the screen protector.

Everyone here understands the benefits of a screen protector but the issue they’re trying to raise here is that they didn’t have to use it with the previous models like 13 & below and no issues with the screen scratches with exactly the same use & care over the same time period.

Agree, that it’s upto apple to do a free screen replacement or not, but we all truly expected Apple to make us all aware of this, so everyone could take the appropriate steps to protect the screen.

Please please please acknowledge the issue everyone is trying to raise.

Thank you.

I don't use screen protectors because I don't like them. And yes, every iPhone I've ever had, going back to the iPhone 4 has developed scratches. None of them bad enough to interfere with use but certainly visible when viewed at a certain angle. I also worked for Verizon Wireless for 20 years. All phone screens will get scratched without a screen protector.
