Same on mine. I've never used a screen protector and never had a single scratch on any previous model of iphone I've had (and I've had a bunch of them). Usually kept in pocket on its own, but after a few months I have 3 rather large somewhat deep scratches (that I can physically feel with my fingernail). I do believe the quality of this glass isn't as good as previous models. :-(
I have applecare but seems ridiculous to replace the screen for a few scratches, and no actual cracks or brokenness. I believe Apple should recall the screens on these and offer free replacements with higher quality ones.
The only iPhone I never not put a screen protector on was my iPhone 6. It scratched like crazy. Since I hate scratches, I vowed to never own an iPhone without putting a screen protector on it out of the box. We both know every single iPhone ever sold has glass which can be scratched. No one has yet to figure out a formula where the glass cannot be scratched. I don't quite get the folks responding here who are claiming this is something new? It simply isn't new and if one doesn't want to see any scratches, the only logical thing to do is to put a screen protector on their expensive screen to avoid them altogether.
LOL. No answer required. Was just adding to what you wrote. What we senior members of the forum know with 100% certainty is EVERY single year when the new iPhone is released, multiple threads will pop up from people who are upset their iPhone screen has scratches. EVERY NEW iPhone released. That's why I find it hard to understand the people who seem to think this is new and somehow different. It simply isn't.

The scratch rating obtained that way hasn’t changed since at least the iPhone X.
Quite true. And I've watched just about every one of the scratch test YouTube videos made. Jerry (rigs something) is usually a great one for such tests. And you're right that nothing much has changed in last few years of iPhone screens in terms of how they scratch. Which we know, they ALL do.

Science?!? How silly!
"Anything hard" can be grit in your pocket. I've seen people scratch phones with a polishing cloth when there was a single piece of grit between it and the screen. That can happen just as easily in your pocket.

Most pocket grit is sand or gravel, the most common element of which is silica, in the form of… quartz.
I've decided that one of the worst things you can do with a phone is keep it in a pocket. Fluff gets lodged in the charging port, grit scratches the screen, damage occurs when you sit on it, it falls in the loo when you drop your trousers.
I too have noticed a crazy amount of scratches, some have texture even. I’ve been an iPhone user since the very first one and am extremely disappointed with the quality of the screen on the 14 pro max. It’s really sad. I take great care of my products and it looks like I’ve owned this for years already and I haven’t even had it for a year. It’s been in a case since the second it was handed to me and I’m just not happy about it at all.
Hi.
This thread is concerning. Do we think iPhone 14 marks / scratches easier than previous models?
I’ve had 4 previous iPhone models and none have ever had a mark on the screen, without a protector. The other day I noticed a dozen marks near the top of my iPhone 14 PM. No idea how they got there, but **** annoying.
Spent an hour to Apple on support chat, sending photos etc.. only to hit a brick wall at the end of it. Total waste of time.
my main worry is that the screen will be littered with hairline scratches over its lifetime.
what’s going on?
That’s the obvious answer, but is there more to it?
Why is it that my iPhone 12PM used for over 2 years had a pristine display at the end, but so far my 14PM had a dozen hairline scratches?
Could just be unlucky, or could be that the screen on the 14 is more susceptible to light scratching?!?!
Mmmmmm
Had a call scheduled with Apple today, but in the end couldn’t face it after my lengthy chat experience.
I guess if no more scratches appear, it’s bad luck. If more appear then there’s something going on here. There seems to be a lot of posts on the thread!
Will the used market be full of iPhone 14s scratched to ****?
@Dogcow-Moof, just wondering why you have dismissed almost every customer experience on this thread?
Lots of people are saying their previous iPhone didn’t mark as easily as the 14, in their experience.
The answer is not a screen protector, given this is an expensive premium product, with a supposedly best performing screen ever.
It depends on what you did that caused the scratches.
If for example your pocket might have something hard in it that caused the other scratches, it will continue to.
As always, the best way to insure no further scratches occur is to install a screen protector.

I’m seeing the same thing. There are lots of replies, but I haven’t seen a single remedy.
That's because there is no remedy. Either put a screen protector on your iPhone screen, or accept that no one has yet invented glass which can't be scratched and without protecting your expensive screen, you will likely see more scratches.
on my 6th day of using iPhone 14 Pro Max, I can tell that the screen has 2 major scratches despite of being so careful that I even manage to put the phone only on soft clothing. No coins or even keys. What a disappointment for a premium phone that couldn’t even hold the “ceramic shield” statement! Tempered glass is way tougher with scratches than what has been installed to this phone! Hope they recall these phones!
I would encourage you to read the entire thread as opposed to just responded to the first post. Apple is not going to recall these phones. EVERY single iPhone since the original iPhone is made of glass and glass can be scratched. No one has yet, from Apple to Google, to Samsung, etc., figured out how to create glass that can't scratch. Ceramic Shield doesn't mean the glass can't scratch. It means the phone is less likely to be shattered in a fall. That is a remarkable achievement as before Ceramic Shield, screens were highly susceptible to shattering in a fall. But in order to make glass which is harder to break, it still can't make it scratch-proof.
If you want to avoid scratches on your iPhone, put a screen protector on it. I put screen protectors on my new phones before they are even turned on. The only iPhone I didn't do that with was iPhone 6 and I regretted it. It was scratched up like crazy in a very short time.
Apple installs screen protectors in Apple Stores. Best Buy installs them. You can order a screen protector from Amazon and there are hundreds of options available there. Screen protectors are bid business because people who don't want the phone screen to be scratched buy them. A lot of them.
