Time Machine trouble with Malwarebytes Premium ?

Ever since I installed the Malwarebytes Premium, I believe it cause not backing up my Ventura 13.5 with Time Machine, it always the last back up was way back, not today at all. I am using 5T My passport Ultra for Mac as Time Machine, it had backing up fine until I upgrade from free Malwarebytes to Malwarebytes Premium. I wonder why and what can I do, this is the only time machine has my back up but it's way back in Feb. Thank you for any help you can give.

Thanks for the reply,
I could not wait for the time machine finish running, went to bed 3am, and change the running time from 9am to 11am of Malwarebytes Premium...got up 9am...the time machine said backed up 43%, still 12 hours to go (I do not know if my mac went to sleep or not at this time) I clicked time machine again, notice it said still has 6 hours remained, at this point I am going to change the Malwarebytes Premium to do the checking to much later, I hope it help, not know yet....the time machine is running slowly at this point, can't wait the answer.

Not sure what to make of that. It sounds like Malwarebytes has changed its behaviour. It used to be recommended here in the forums because it didn't do those useless things like constant scanning. If that's changed, and Malwarebytes is now interfering with normal operation of your computer, then you should uninstall it.

For the record, any malware scan of a Mac should take no more than a few seconds.

And you don't even need 3rd party antivirus apps at all. Apple already provide malware protection built into the operating system. However, Apple usually allows the end user to override its protections. That's how people install malware. They try to download a hacked version of expensive app so they can use it for free. Or they try to download some video player so they can watch pay-per-view style videos for free. To do that, they have to override multiple layers of Apple security protections. But if you aren't actively doing that, then you don't need any 3rd party antivirus apps. And if you are, then remember this. Apple already protects the computer. But if you are overriding that protection, then your 3rd party antivirus apps aren't protecting the computer from malware, they are protecting the computer from you.

By the way if it did not work.....I will do Safe Mode restart, How to do that ?

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

will I get Malwarebytes Premium uninstalled ? or any other 3rd party software ?? Oh boy, if that's the case I will be even much more trouble, since I have some 3rd party softwares are older (they have been there when the time machine was running fine).

All I can say is to make sure and get the Time Machine backup done first. See if there is some option in Malwarebytes itself to gently disable it temporarily. Unfortunately, most 3rd party antivirus apps simply cannot be uninstalled at all. I don't know how your particular version of Malwarebytes is designed. I don't know if you will be able to uninstall it or not.

But I can tell you with other antivirus apps, it is common that their uninstallers will leave critical, low-level system modifications installed and running totally out of control. The only way to fix it is with Recovery mode, Terminal, and disabling system security. It is a procedure that is so dangerous that Apple doesn't allow us to describe how to do it. The easier solution is to just erase your hard drive and reinstall the operating system. But then you have to be careful during the restore. You can't just restore everything because that will restore everything. You have to make sure to NOT restore any apps, software, system settings, or "other files". You can restore only your user accounts and user files. You will need to manually reinstall any 3rd party apps that you really need.

PS: Apple actually does provide a safe and easy way to remove these low-level system modifications. But each 3rd party antivirus app is different. And there is no way we can tell you where to find the important file to be trashed. But I can tell you that you have to drag one of the software's apps to the trash. You actually can't attempt to use the uninstaller at all. Unfortunately, developers like to put those apps in hidden locations where you can't find them.

PPS: And please don't ever try to use any "app zappers" or "clean up" tools. In theory, it is possible for 3rd party developers to build functional uninstallers. It just seems like they are unable to do it anymore. But those 4th party "app zappers" and "clean up" tools can't possibly work. If you try to use them on these kinds of system apps, it is a guaranteed failure.

Experiment for only one try

Start the computer in Safe Mode and then try and let Time Machine Backup run ?

Did it work without issues ?

Third Party Security Software is not required and in this case Malwarebytes does not need to be running ALL the Time

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading. It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance

3 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

What I would do in this situation is launch Malwarebytes and under the Help menu chose "Uninstall Malwarebytes".

Then I'd download the free version (don't add your license to Malwarebytes) and run it only when you think you may have added some adware or malware. I've only run it 2-3 times in the last year.

Thanks for the above details

The nuance in my earlier posting may have not be observed.

Like an Third Party Security Software, is not needed at all

There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

The Operating System resides in a Sealed and Read Only Volume that can not be opened by the User nor by Third Party Applications.

The only Entity that can open and modify or alter this Volume is Apple.

That would occur when an update or UpGrade is performed.

The Only thing this software is protecting is the Bank Account of the Developers and for zero return to the User aside from the problems this software creates.

Developers purposefully Market their product to create a “ Fear Factor “. In so doing, creating a False Need for their Product.

Security. Built right in

Mac app security enhancements

The Built in Security  is all that is required to protect the computer.

Building on the above posting regrind Disk Cleaners or Disk Optimizers

Specific to CleanMyMac aka “ BrickMyMac

To put the CleanMyMac is context and the damages it may have or has already done.

This application Can or will Muck Up your User Account ( Home Folder ) of this machine.

It does not touch the Operating System itself unless you consider your User Account ( Home Folder ) as part of the Operating System

Then in that specific context - it has Mucked Up the Operating  System

Because of my trouble :

I just update to Sonoma, no matter what can not get the "Time Machine"

show up on menu bar, even I had click it to show up from the control

center..doesn't work.

Ever since Ventura, I had trouble (no trouble before Ventura) backing up

to Time Machine, therefore I update to Sonoma Yesterday and updated

again....but still have trouble with Time Machine...the external hard

drive 5T only used 2.4 T ...when I click Time Machine thru Control

Center, no matter what it still said no hard drive was found and this

issue so new and the old fashion way before Ventura, all I had to do was

going to menu bar to click...start back up....Time Machine could not

find my back up hard drive and I did not see any thing like ....a button

or anything I could click "start back up" from the Time Machine....the

WD firmware is good (I checked with WD) it was working fine

before....Why Apple has the habit moving things and not tell people what

they did not just one thing....it seemed like the whole house

(computer) been ransacked. .buy the way, it was Apple care help told me to get Malwarebytes for free

I did upgraded it when it expired and non other 3rd party security on my Macbook pro....

I almost want to do like a frustrated golfer did with his club.

What solution now ????? but I do want to thank you for your help.

I do not have any 3rd party security wares, only Malwarebytes Premium, I need my Adobe Creative pk working (older version still working) and Microsoft, they might be gone, as I learned my lesson couple years back I lost all my Adobe softwares, therefore I am afraid to do the Soft restart....I rather give up my paid Malwarebytes Premium and see if it will help.....someone indicated....Time Machine in Sonoma seemed not working well.
