Apple Music skipping

I use my iPhone a lot for music playback. After upgrading to 11.3, I've started to have problems with glitching and skipping while listening to music. I'm using a iPhone 6S with a new battery installed by Apple a few weeks ago. Playback problems occur when using wired headphones (3.5 analog), the iPhone speaker and also JBL Clip 2 bluetooth speaker. All of the songs I've had skipping problems were downloaded to the phone. I've also had a problem with playing Beats1 on-demand shows. Anyone else having issues?

Hello leedos,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that after updating to iOS 11.3, you started having issues with music playback, getting "glitching and skipping" when listening on the internal speaker, wired headphones and a Bluetooth speaker. I have several things we can try to resolve the issue, try each of these and test after each suggestion.

First, force quit Music and Restart iPhone. These articles will walk you through these steps if you need a reminder.

How to force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

If you are still having the same issue after force quitting Music and restarting the phone, delete and reinstall Music app. This article covers that process:

Delete built-in Apple apps on your iOS 11 device or Apple Watch

And finally, if you are still having the issue, please remove one of the songs that you are having an issue with and then redownload it. Then test to see if you are still having an issue with the playback.

Delete songs and videos from your iCloud Music Library

Best regards.

Alright, so the problem is definitely back. Despite cleaning out the audio jack with a pipe cleaner dipped in a tiny bit of 91% isopropyl rubbing alcohol (a bunch of lint/crap did come out), I'm getting the stuttering/garbling audio again.

The only possible trigger I can pinpoint after nearly a week of clean and clear audio (after the full restore), is that I synced a bunch of new mp3 audio files (about a dozen albums - purchased legally, not cheap rips) to the device. The problems came back quickly thereafter.

So, I don't have the technical know-how to say what's happening, only that newly introduced files aren't playing properly and there seems to be some correlation.

Aaapplllle! Fix this please!

I dont know why this is even a bug!!! I have cloud storage (googledrive) and 3-4 minutes in it starts to do it for about a minute then stops. It isnt the file because it plays fine everywhere else. Audible works fine. Purchased itunes songs work fine. For me its just mp3 songs in serveral apps: music, evermusic (googlecloud), louderlogic-reads my itunes syncs files - same as (music).

Out of desperation, I went ahead and decided to load the 11.4 beta. Unfortunately the problem is still there. I have a 128GB 6s. Does everyone with this problem have a 128GB model? I also wanted to add that when using my phone in my wife car that has CarPlay the audio quality problem is consistent. Every song sounds bad. Pausing, playing or skipping tracks does nothing to clear the issue.

Having the same issue - hope Apple fix it in their latest update. Also had a new battery fitted by Apple recently and it happens for me in the following instances:

- streaming music (via podcasts - Apple app)

- steaming music (via other apps such as amazon music)

- downloaded music.

Downloaded podcasts

Have re loaded music and programmes and problem persists. Also have restarted,...

It does not happen during films.

Please advise fix

So, it's 11.4 now. How is it going, folks?

Me personally, i restored the phone more than a month ago and hadn't been meeting the problem since then. But after 11.4 upgrade a couple of times or more I have faced a little pause when playing tracks downloaded, no internet connection whatsoever. Am I going to suffer from this problem till the rest of my iPhone experience?

Outrageous.

Okay, now it's official. The problem perisists on iOS11.4 devices. It usually happens when I press the play button and lock the screen. And after a few seconds here it comes. Seems something changed but not much. ****, i'm using all my Apple devices for drumming (metronome, playback and all that) and how can I rely on iPhone now? Thanks iPad works well. Only iPhone impacted.

Apple do something ASAP! Seems there's no much action going on in this direction.

Any info on how it goes on iOS12 beta?

I’m having the exact issue that I never had before updating. It’s nit the music itself, because the glitching moves, and isn’t in the same place when you play it again... force restarting doesn’t help, it still happens just in a different song. Deleting music won’t solve issue, because it’s not the songs themselves but an issue with the software’s playback of it. It’s very true that before Mr. Jobs past away, you didn’t have issues like these, as he wouldn’t have released software until it was right... I suggest that Apple fixes the issue with the software and soon, otherwise their brand will get tarnished and they will lose longtime customers. 😘

My workaround with CarPlay is setting it so it is NOT allowed while locked. This will require your phone to be unlocked when you connect. This plus NOT using Bluetooth pairing seems to minimize the worst of the issue but I still get occasional skipping—just no longer the garbled distorted music as before.

Same problem here! With every car stereo working on bluetooth or bluetooth music device like my Bose Soundlink mini. Ive tried 3different cars so it is not the car radio but the phone issue.

Another problem is that phone conversations over bluetooth car audio will stretch out the voice like an old tape casset! Happens somewhere along every single phone conversation!! Very very frustrating!

I cured my issues by changing my headphones - there must have been a loose connection that was triggering all the audio chaos. The phone was less than a year old so I got a new pair under the warranty. I am sure this won't help many others in this post, who have issues with audio not related to headphones, but perhaps there are some like me that this info might be useful to.

I've had this issue for a few months now on my iPhone 5S and it's really driving me insane. At first I thought it was just my crappy older iPhone with no storage, but it's been non-stop for months. Regardless of whether I'm listening to downloaded or streaming music. It happens every time I try to listen to Apple Music for the first two or three songs, then it settles down. I'm on 11.4 at this point, and it's still happening. Just about to upgrade to 11.4.1 to see if that improves anything but I doubt it.
