New version of itunes & IOS 11.3 WON'T sync photos on Windows 10

I just installed the latest itunes version (12.7.4.76) and the latest IOS (11.3) on my iPad and iPhone and now itunes won't sync my pictures from my PC library on either device.

I have tried selecting "all folders" and "selected folders" Nothing works...

I have rebooted both the PC and iPad and Restored by iPad and NOTHING works.

Itunes just sits with the message "Reading photos from "Pictures" FOREVER!!!

I have the same problem suddenly, for all my devices, iPhone 6S, iPhone7, iPad Pro, the newest iPad, iPad old................total 6 devices, all cannot syn photos via my notebook which is using Window 10.

I hope Apple is not trying to push all users to use iCloud, I have 40GB photos and I really don't want to buy the cloud.
If Apple really wants to do this, I will give up using Apple products!

I've been struggling with this issue for about a week. I went through all the steps outlined above with no luck. I even went to an Apple store and took a class on organizing photos. The Apple "geniuses" couldn't answer my questions. They knew very little about working with Windows. I finally decided to try iCloud photos. I uploaded and organized about 800 of 8000 photos. They all successfully made it on to my phone, BUT the location data was wrong. It showed all my photos were taken in Kyrgyzstan. I've spent many hours on this.

Also, it seems that you can't upload photos organized in folders from a PC. You have to upload the photos and then put them into folders again. Very frustrating.

I tried your method, was so happy that it took only mins to start copying from the computer folders and went to last step.
After 4 hours, after it showed 4XXXX photos were copied, it stopped and I found my ipad folders only had few folders which contained around two thousand photos only, and photos randomly mixed together!😟

I am getting crazy.

Same problem here... Troubled me 2 days and I could still find no solution.

I remember iTunes had given me such problem long ago, I don't remember how I eventually got rid of it last time.

This time I have tried everything I know by updating iTunes, updating iOS, reinstalling iTunes, rebooting PC, removing cache and so on... nothing helped. Apple should be the one who could fix it, although I doubt if they really cares.

One of the helpers here suggest me to try to remove all photo cache files again and try again, and I did, and I was successful, however, when I want to update some photos and re-syn, then it happens again that Step 4 of 5 "reading photos from directory freeze there again for era.

I think probably I could remove all photo cache files again and copy all photos again, but it's really stupid and I really don't want to do that again and again. Frustrated and exhausted!

I found the solution to this as I had the same issues with Itunes 12.7.4. The solution was I removed Itunes 12.7.4 as well as Icloud and also renamed the iTunes Library.itl to iTunes Library.bak in the Music Folder.

Afterwards I had a version of Itunes 12.6.3 that I had downloaded a while ago. So I reinstalled after rebooting the PC and then Starting to resync my pictures and then the 22,000 Pictures I had resynced with no issues within 3 hours time.

FYI I have IOS version 11.3.1 that I am using as well. As a result I will keep this version of Itunes 12.6.3 on one computer and use another computer for just updates for Itunes that way I always have a version that will sync my photos and create albums.

I do the exact same. Sort on my PC into folders and then sync back to iphone X. I also deleted cache folder and then lost all 15,000 photos on phone. So frustrating. If I did not recently buy the iphone X I would definitely change to Samsung. If I could get my money back I would. I am sick of Apple always making things so hard. I will not sync to icloud. Even if I were prepared to pay when you do decide to change to another phone apart from Apple you will not be able to access your photos. Does anyone know when Apple are likely to have another upgrade?

I’ve been speaking with Apple about this problem for several weeks. They claim the problem is known and that the engineers are working on it. They’ve been very good in following up with me on a regular basis. It’s very difficult, especially when you use your phone for your work, and you need the pictures to be available all the time. I had over 12,000 photos sorted in 15 or 20 folders. The last time I tried syncing I unchecked sync photos. Then I tried syncing one or two small folders and that didn’t work so now the only photos on my camera are the ones that Apple insist you keep and my camera roll. Very frustrating !!!

The situation is DIRE!!! I haven't been able to synch photos from my Windows PC (running Win 7) ever since I upgraded my iPad to v12.7.4.80. Same prob with iPhone 6. They just sit there for 2 days saying, "(Step 6 of 6) Preparing to copy items". I have about 6,500 pix that I need to update once a week. It used to take about 15-20 minutes as I recall before the so-called "upgrade". Now I have to abort the synch on a Monday morning in order to get anything done. When will Apple acknowledge there is a problem and provide a fix or advise of a suitable workaround? I have got to the point where I absolutely dread accepting an Apple upgrade because something important always breaks.
