spreediscount
is this a virus - how can I stop these amazing amazon discount offers from spreediscount.com? It looks like a phishing pop up to me and it pops up and removes my history so I can’t back out of it.

Check to see if Safari is syncing to iCloud.
1. go to settings
2. click on your name
3. click on iCloud
4. A list of apps using iCloud will show up. If Safari is checked, unclick it (turn it off).
5. Clear your browser history as described in previous posts
I’ve has this issue on my iPad for about a week on eBay I cleared the website history. It came back. I did a factory reset. It came back. I kept redoing this because it at least was a temporary fix.
This morning, while in Safari, I clicked on the ”layer” icon which shows all the tabs that are open. I noticed a list of sites below the tabs. I hadn’t seen this before. I looked closely and the only thing listed was the spree discount stuff. Above the list was a line. Above the line was a cloud icon, which made me wonder if it was being downloaded from an iCloud backup, which I thought I had turned off all uses of. Apparently not. Safari was set up to sync with iCloud, which apparently had a backup that was syncing to my iPad. I deleted the backup in the iCloud and turned off Safari using iCloud. Since I did that, it hasn’t come back.
Quick synopsis of this thread-
1. Clearing website data does not work
2. Resetting network setting (recommended by Apple) works for some
3. Use of a DNS/VPS blocking app DOES work for most.... such as Norton AdBlocker (free) or AdBlock by FutureMind ($4.99)
It started just days after getting a new ipad and started yesterday on my old ipad2. Both on Yahoo Finance home page.
Never had the speedtest app and hadn't downloaded any new ones in quite a while. Clearing history and cookies doesn't help so I reset the network settings and the advertising identifier (found in the privacy tab). It seems to have worked so far but it's only been a few hours. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
Today, I purchased (cheap) 2 highly recommended iPad content blockers, and so far it’s working, but this redirect does seem to learn. I am not yet ready to cheer. I downloaded the Crystal app (.99¢)- and I like the fact you can report these issues that start happening, so if it happens again, I can send them a message. I also downloaded the Ad-Block app ($1.99 I think) and it’s really easy to use. I did have Purify and 1Blocker, but it was happening with them, even when I added spreediscount to the 1Blocker black list. After I did that, it did block it, but it didn’t stop the redirect that happened first. I have my fingers crossed with these 2 new blockers.
I believe this is some kind of DNS Poisoning. For me it is when I visit Yahoo NFL Fantasy Picks.
I have been able to workaround the issue by using FireFox or Chrome and "Requesting the desktop site".
The redirect only happens when browsing through the mobile site.
I haven’t been on my iPad for most of the day except this morning when I had to business on ebay and when I called apple. So far the pop did not appear but the Apole advisor told me to..... Clear History and Website Data and then Reset my Netwrok Settings. But before today this ad has been popping up but it was becoming a real issue when I could not do my eBay business. What I used before that seems to block the pop-up is I used “Brave” web broser. When I used it to do my eBay business the pop up did not come up. This could be a temporary fix, HOPEFULLY Apple will find a solution to this pop-up. Luckily for me so far it only been on my iPad pro(1st gen) and not my Mac or iPhone X. I just looked and saw that Brave is free and there is another web browser Aloha Browser(I don’t know anything about this app). But the reviews seems pretty good. Hopefully some of you can use the Browser to block this pop-up until there is a fix for it.
Good Luck to All!
For now, you have to get a DNS/VPN filter.... both Norton AdBlocker (free) and AdBlock by FutureMind ($1.99) have found to be effective for now.... it’s been 3 successful days now for me and it’s great to have it gone. 🙂
Spent a week on this issue and I think I finally found the answer. Just follow these steps:
I removed several recently installed apps. One of them was infected. Which one I don't know. Very disappointing since Apple is supposed to tightly control their app store.
I had the same result. Even though Spreediscount.com only affected my Yahoo Fantasy League on Chrome and Norton Ad-Blocker is for Safari, installing it seemed to fix both browsers.
Wow, just deleted the NOAA radar app and that stopped the problem (at least for now) on my ipad
The way I have got this to stop so far is
Go to Settings
Then scroll down to your apps at the bottom.
Click on an app name.
Where it says “Background App Refresh” slide the tab to the left so it isn’t lit up green.
This is somewhat a temporary fix. If you need to use the app with updates then you will need to slide the tab back to the right so it is green. For me it was either yahoo fantasy football app, Facebook messenger app, Uber app, Lyft app, Draftkings app, Draft by FanDuel app or GroupMe app which are the only 7 apps I’ve ever downloaded. Unfortunately I have downloaded all these apps within the last week so I’m not sure which one could be the problem. I will need to turn each one on and off individually in order to find out which one or ones effect the issue. Hope this helps someone, Apple or whichever company has the app who’s causing this.
Nope! The first time I did that it worked for 3 hours. After that it came back. I’ve cleared website data a zillion times, rebooted my iPad Gen 2 a thousand times after clearing.... no results. It was only when I started using Crystal and AdBlock that it stopped.... at least it’s been stopped for 24 hours. We’ll see.....
I don't ever use, or go to, Yahoo. For me, the add is attached to my Huff Post on the Iphone using Safari . Thus, if you scroll back to previous comments, I agree with the poster who said it is not an issue with a particular website or browser. This ad is arriving by a different means all together. I have temporarily had relief by clearing data and resetting internet settings on my iPhone. Though the most recent post to block the address looks like a good option too...
Thanks, please let me know if it comes back. I think it will because the last time I did a reset I didn’t use iCloud, I created a whole new account and it came right back. I think the key I’d to go to General, Restrictions, and add website to block. It best to copy and past link.
No I was having problems on both Charter Spectrum Wi-Fi and AT&T 4G.
So far it seems fixed by using theses free apps Phone Guardian (VPN), SiteBlocker and Norton Ad Blocker.
