is this a virus - how can I stop these amazing amazon discount offers from spreediscount.com? It looks like a phishing pop up to me and it pops up and removes my history so I can’t back out of it.

Check to see if Safari is syncing to iCloud.
1. go to settings
2. click on your name
3. click on iCloud
4. A list of apps using iCloud will show up. If Safari is checked, unclick it (turn it off).
5. Clear your browser history as described in previous posts
I’ve has this issue on my iPad for about a week on eBay I cleared the website history. It came back. I did a factory reset. It came back. I kept redoing this because it at least was a temporary fix.
This morning, while in Safari, I clicked on the ”layer” icon which shows all the tabs that are open. I noticed a list of sites below the tabs. I hadn’t seen this before. I looked closely and the only thing listed was the spree discount stuff. Above the list was a line. Above the line was a cloud icon, which made me wonder if it was being downloaded from an iCloud backup, which I thought I had turned off all uses of. Apparently not. Safari was set up to sync with iCloud, which apparently had a backup that was syncing to my iPad. I deleted the backup in the iCloud and turned off Safari using iCloud. Since I did that, it hasn’t come back.
Try the fix MoeKnow50 posted above. If you can’t do that or it doesn’t work, download Norton AdBlocker app (free) or AdBlock by FutureMind app ($1.99). Both work. 🙂
I removed the app called SpeedTest which helped for a little bit and then started having the problem again several hours later.
So SpreeDiscount seems to have the ability to learn and redirect again. Definitely is acting like a virus.
Spent a week on this issue and I think I finally found the answer. Just follow these steps:
I have had this problem also, both using Chrome and Safari. It only seems to try to hijack the page when I go to a particular site on Yahoo. In looking over comments, the only websites mentioned have been Yahoo sites. I spent some time on the phone with Tech Support and he suggested that the problem may actually be coming from Yahoo. He may be right.
Updated! Spent a week on this issue and I think I finally found the answer. Just follow these steps:
Block Pop up.
Prevent cross tracking.
Ask website not to track me.
Fraudulent website warning.
My solution so far was to enable my vpn on the iPad and give it permission to block pop ups.
still working ...for the past few hours
And AdBlock by FutureMind (not free) if the others aren’t working for you.
I agree it not just related to yahoo. But the fix mention has really worked for me. the key is to add the redirect site to the restricted list.
I downloaded the Site Blocker app which blocks it at times (for a day or so) but then seems to be able to circumvent the block again.
A VPN and pop up blockers don’t work. In fact my VPN (Phone Guardian) prevented all access to the internet - both 4G and Wi-Fi, even trusted wi-fi - after spree discount was really bad. I had to install the VPN to get it to work. Browsing private doesn’t help.
It happens on both Chrome and Safari browsers.
Yes for me. It was My eBay. If I opened a link to a search, it was there. If I clicked a bookmark to My eBay, it was there. But.... if I log off, it wasn't there. But, yes.... it’s the first page, whichever it happened to be- summary, sell an item, search, or bookmarked item if I was signed in.
So I’m having the same problem only when I’m on my iPhone, on Safari, on my yahoo fantasy football desktop.
Yesterday somebody suggested once you clear all website data & history to go to advanced & clear all of the website data.
I did that & it seemed to work..... for like 5 mins. What I noticed though is that every time I went to advanced & cleared the data myself, the second I would click back into there to make sure it cleared all these websites stored one kept popping back into there no matter what & thats variety.com
Is anybody else seeing that???
I followed your instruction, with the sole exception of not enabling Java script. I haven’t seen this nuisance for a few days now. I’m quite hopeful. Can you explain the reason for enabling Java script? Thanks much.

I deleted my latest app, NOAA Radar. As this was loaded onto my iPad and not the iPhone or iMac, so far, no ads, keeping my fingers crossed.
So far, after deleting the NOAA Radar app yesterday, the problem seems to have disappeared (knock wood). Time will tell, I suppose....
