I can't browse Apple Music on iTunes (desktop)

My Macbook Pro runs OS10.10.5 and iTunes is 12.8.1.3 and my apple music subscription is up to date.

However, I get a blank page when I click the 'For You', 'Browse' or 'Radio' buttons from the browse tab in iTunes. I'm able to access my own Library and the iTunes store with no issue.

I followed the recommendations as written here - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250159907

Rebooted in Safe Mode. Also set up a new user account. Issue persists.

No issue on my iPhone using the same account.

Please help.

Important detail: I was waiting for it to "fix itself", but nothing happened until I reset the iTunes cache, and immediately Apple Music showed up again. (iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Reset iTunes Cache). I think the combo of Apple fixing something on their end, plus resetting was what made it work again for me. (on El Capitan).

Running El Capitan 10.11.6 here and I too started seeing the three pages ("for you," "browse," and "radio") just spin a few weeks ago. I don't know exactly when this started happening because I normally use iTunes on a more up to date machine, but this has worked for as long as I can remember ... until recent.

I tried all the ideas seen here but found the only thing I could do that did work was to log out on the current iTunes, then remove the iTunes app (I used sudo in terminal and removed the /Applications/iTunes.app), removed my library files (not the actually music) and then downloaded and installed iTunes 12.4.3 https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1892?viewlocale=en_CA&locale=en_CA which does work (albeit with the older interface). I'm happy and this seems like a very reasonable workaround for this older machine.

Hope this helps others....

So I too decided to downgrade my iTunes version to 12.4.3 on my iMac. I did this by listening to other peoples solutions.

I followed the steps below:

1) Remove my old iTunes library to a safe location as it will not be read by the older version of iTunes.

To do this, go to "Music" on your Mac, then "iTunes", then copy your "iTunes Library.itl" file to somewhere safe.

Please remember that by moving your iTunes library file, other changes may happen to your iTunes setup.

2) Remove my version of iTunes. You can do this by going to Finder. Then going to Applications. Next, right click "iTunes" and select "Get Info". Under "Sharing & Permissions" at the bottom, change name "everyone" to have "read & write" privilege.

You can then drag iTunes into your trash can.

3) Download iTunes 12.4.3 from Apple:

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1892?locale=en_GB

Then you can install this older version and get back to enjoying Apple Music.

I hope this step by step guide helps some folk.

I started experiencing this issue today on my 2017 nTB MacBook Pro, updated with the latest version of Mojave. I initially reset the iTunes cache as suggested on previous posts here, but that did not resolve the issue.

With iTunes "quit" on my MacBook, I opened Apple Music on my iPhone and pressed on the "Browse" and "For You Tabs" and waited for them to load. The next time I opened iTunes, the tabs that were previously blank now had content. I think the issue might have something to do with Apple's servers.

I did not lose playlists and had no issues with my music. Note, all I did was delete everything from my ~/Music/iTunes directory except "Album Artwork" and "iTunes Media" directories. Upon installation of the older iTunes 12.4.3 it automagically rebuilt my library without an issue and all the playlists were there once I logged back on. I'd be sure to "consolidate" your library before uninstalling the newer/broken version in case you don't have everything in the one "iTunes Media" directory but this was pretty easy.

iMac late 2009 - OSX El Capitan ; iTunes 12.8.2.3

Had same issue since 4 days ... Called to Apple Support, and after reinstalling OSX El Capitan still same problem... Phoned again to Apple Support with 'senior support member' : problem had nothing to do with my (old) computer nor my OSX ( although problem occurred mostly with El Capitan en older OSX) nor iTunes version but something went wrong in the connection with the Apple Server for Apple Music... he was going to address the problem with the iTunes/Apple Music developers...

This morning the problem was solved at least for me ...

I am again lucky owner of a Mac...

Just fixed my Macbook 2010 running El Capitan the way mikehren described earlier, with the exception of just changing the read/write permissions and dragging the itunes.app to the trash. Remember to delete everything except Album Artwork and Itunes Media folders from the Itunes main folder and restart before installing Itunes again.

Works like a charm now. Thank you.

hi there,

or try this ->

https://beta.music.apple.com/de/browse

  • beta but works. currently. (-;
  • better than running an old version of iTunes and loose connectivity with my iPhone.
  • better than loosing my sorted custom library with about 12.000(local) songs and hundreds of playlists.

by the way even the iTunes 12.6.5 "Deployment Version" shows just blank pages.

have fun

Here's what finally worked for me in El Capitan, but it requires an iPhone as well.

  1. Log out of Apple Music in iTunes on the Mac desktop machine.
  2. Go to the Music app on the iPhone (sign in if needed) and add anything from the Apple Music section to your iCloud Library.
  3. Go back to iTunes on the desktop Mac, sign in, and it works now.

At least it did for me. Your mileage may vary.

Had blank screen in iTunes store on 2 computers.

Could solve it today on my desktop Mac. Well can't tell what part of my actions, if any, did do the trick. It involved

  • clearing iTunes cache
  • clearing NV Ram
  • deleting files mentioned by apple in /var/db/crls/
  • logging in and out

Problem resists on my MBP, with all above actions. I am clueless....
