Iphone 11 Pro & Carplay

I just upgraded from an Iphone X to Iphone 11 Pro. IOS 13.0 and now my Carplay sounds like an old Vinyl record with a scratch. playing music from the Phone skips randomly 5-15 seconds then skips again. I've reset the phone, I've erased the phone and just put 1 album on it, no luck. , updated to 13.1 and no change it still skips. My old Iphone X running 13.1 works perfectly. It's so bad I listen to XM now. and don't use my carplay to listen to music. My vehicle is a 2019 Mini Cooper JCW, I've had the dealership reset the ECU, any other ideas would be wonderful....

Did a a Google search to see if anyone was having a similar problem and found this. I just upgraded to an iPhone 11 Pro Max (from 8+) and my CarPlay is skipping now. Maybe not as much as yours as it’s only a few times a song, but it’s annoying. Our car is also a 2019 JCW Mini.

That’s interesting, my issue is with wireless car play. I was able to get the Mini Cooper issue up the food chain today and they scheduled me to speak to apple engineers later this week. They are aware of the issue. That is all I can report and know. The more folks that report to Apple and car manufacturer’s the better for all.

Looking forward to what you might hear from the support. Does it not work at all for you or it starts skipping after few minutes? For me and my friend, we both noticed that it plays fine (phone call or music or youtube etc) for few min and then the carplay interface gets very sluggish as if there is memory leak or data transfer is choking.

Same here: Mini clubman + iPhone 11 Pro on wireless CarPlay. In my case the issue seems to happen mainly when I drive nearby buildings. However when I drive farther away from buildings like for example on an intercity highway, then the issue stops. Another funny thing is that the very same iPhone works perfectly well with CarPlay when wired to an Opel Insignia (General Motors). On the other side, both iPhone 8 and iPhone XS work flawlessly well through wireless CarPlay in the Mini.

Could it be an interference having to do with the Wi-Fi radio in iPhone 11 Pro trying to identify every single router within range? Just guessing... mainly because of the issue happening to me only when I drive not far away from buildings.

I reported it to Apple about three weeks ago. They said they didn’t have any report on this yet, which is not completely true (some of you reported it earlier). About a week later they asked me for a picture of the car’s head unit, which I immediately provided them with. No news from them ever since.

I've noticed it is worse closer to buildings as well. I've also noticed it seems to work better if I put the phone in the little holder behind the cup holders, close to the front panel, but that might just be coincidence. My MINI dealership didn't have any reports. I agree, it seems like an interference issue. I notice almost no drops out on country roads.

Same problem here (Mini Cooper 2018, with Wireless Carplay). I found a turnaround: put the iphone on the armrest between the two front seats (I have a wireless charger here included in the armrest). When the phone is placed there, it clearly works better. It's not perfect, but better.

Still, it really is a SHAME that more than three month after the launch of the costy iPhone 11 Pro, such issue is still there and Apple does not acknowledge the issue.

It's sad to see so many of the exact issues I posted months ago, and we are all still here looking for answers.

There are no shortcuts, no workarounds, and being Not perfect is not an answer either, I purchased my New Mini with the expectation of wireless Apple Carplay. which I was excited about when I first still had my Iphone X. I love Apple Products and wanted the new 11Pro. that's when all this started happening. I've reported several times to apple, and Mini, and still we sit with not 100% Functioning Carplay. How is Mini or BMW now telling new and potential customers about their Wireless CARPLAY . You can only use if you have an old phone? It's not acceptable. I've been programmed now to grab my phone out of the cradle when a call comes in, so when the phone drops from carplay, I can put it up to my ear to continue the conversation. I'm beginning to expect the skips in music, so I don't sing along anymore, incase I hear myself between the skips... It's not how Carplay is suppose to work. Its frustrating when I'm using siri to send a text and everything freezes. then I have to disconnect WIFI, or reset my phone, and reconnect. all that is tough when your driving.

I love my new phone, and shouldn't have to go backwards to my old X to make something that's revolutionary and new like wireless Carplay to work.

More of a "get it off my chest" than an actual solution. sorry to rant....

Same issue here been like this since September not funny at all and Also it is worse when I'm am in a built up area or close to buildings. this issue could be something to do with interference ! Just wish Apple would

sort this out I have reported it to Apple and left feedback like Apple told me to about this issue. it can’t be just small amount people this is happening too got be everyone who has CarPlay and Apple pro phone ! So everyone needs to report this issue to there dealership and Apple and just keep doing it every week if needs be to get this matter sorted if u had a faulty tv you would take it back and get refund if couldn’t fix it

I’m at the mini dealership and all the service advisors have a blank look on their faces when I mention the CarPlay issues. This is my second time reporting the issue to the dealership. I called MiniUSA and was greeted with an attitude and told to go back to the dealership.

There’s chatter about this all over twitter. MiniUSA sent me a DM claiming they were working on the issue. That was October 23, 2019. With each iOS update, it doesn’t included any fixes to the issue. This isn’t an apple issue but a Mini/BMW hardware issue. Most of the iPhone 11 users who use a cable to operate CarPlay in other vehicles don’t have this problem. I have been in several rental cars and the CarPlay worked perfectly; nearly all of them required a cable connection.

I’m in the uk 🇬🇧 and my mini dealer know about this issue but said there is nothing they can do Because it’s a phone issue and till Apple do some sort of update to sort this out nothing Will change :( and at the minute don’t think Apple care about it this is a safety issue when driving and on call because when CarPlay drops the call your looking at your phone when driving because u can hear the person you was talking too on the phone put not CarPlay till it carplay kicks back !!!

I agree it is an Apple Pro issue and something Apple needs to resolve. But there is a big difference between major auto industry actors pressuring Apple to fix it, and a few hundred customers pressuring them directly. In the case of Mini and BMW we pay extra for Car Play functionality and if it doesn't work, we are not getting our money's worth. The automakers have a bigger stake in this.
