Iphone 11 Pro & Carplay

I just upgraded from an Iphone X to Iphone 11 Pro. IOS 13.0 and now my Carplay sounds like an old Vinyl record with a scratch. playing music from the Phone skips randomly 5-15 seconds then skips again. I've reset the phone, I've erased the phone and just put 1 album on it, no luck. , updated to 13.1 and no change it still skips. My old Iphone X running 13.1 works perfectly. It's so bad I listen to XM now. and don't use my carplay to listen to music. My vehicle is a 2019 Mini Cooper JCW, I've had the dealership reset the ECU, any other ideas would be wonderful....

I have had almost the exact issue that many of you have been describing. I have a Mini Cooper 2019, and I am using Apple CarPlay. It worked perfectly fine with my iPhone X, and I recently upgraded to the iPhone 11 Pro running iOS 13.1.3. Whenever I would listen to music, every ten seconds or so the sound would cut out or stutter, making it basically unusable. Thanks to a great support call with an Apple engineer, I am happy to report that the issue is completely resolved.

Here are the things I initially tried to resolve the issue, based on suggestions from Apple Support:

  1. Reset All Settings (this did not help).
  2. Erase All Content and Settings, and restore iPhone from iCloud backup (this did not help).

Here are the steps that did resolve the issue:

  1. Connected my iPhone to my Windows 10 computer running iTunes.
  2. From iTunes, I clicked on the iPhone button, and in the top panel, I selected the Restore iPhone button. I restored the iPhone back to factory settings. As explained to me by the Apple engineer, this is not the same as Erasing All Content and Settings on the phone itself. Restoring the iPhone in this way completely wipes out the contents of the phone and performs a clean install of the operating system.
  3. Once the iPhone was finished restoring back to factory settings, I initially did not restore my iCloud backup. Instead, I set it up as a new phone.
  4. I removed the existing iPhone profile from my Mini Cooper, and then re-paired my car with CarPlay on my phone.
  5. Now the moment of truth -- I tested playing music from my iPhone through CarPlay, and sure enough, no dropouts or stutter. The music played flawlessly!
  6. I then decided to try restoring my iCloud backup to see if I could get all of my settings and apps back on my phone without reintroducing the problem. I did so by first running Erase All Content and Settings, and I then restored my latest iCloud backup.
  7. Once I completed the iCloud restore, I then went out to my Mini Cooper and deleted the existing iPhone profile from the car.
  8. I re-paired the iPhone with CarPlay, and then proceeded to play my music. The music played perfectly -- problem resolved!

I hope that these steps will work for all of you that are having this issue. Good luck, and let me know how it goes.

No, at least my 2019 Mini has wireless CarPlay. I do think it has something to do as you say with interference between 2.4ghz Bluetooth and WiFi in the car. Somehow they implemented this differently in the new phone and it is having incompatibilities with most of these "infotainment" systems. I hope they release a patch soon.

There's a much longer discussion here https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250659886 where it looks like it is happening on lots of different cars as well.

I brought this issue up with customer support yesterday - and they claimed that nobody has reported it officially yet, so they haven't even begun to look into it.

I strongly urge other people to report to customer support - it's a huge pain, but I got the impression that, even though they've started to gather diagnostics, they aren't taking the issue seriously.

Same here: Mini clubman + iPhone 11 Pro on wireless CarPlay. In my case the issue seems to happen mainly when I drive nearby buildings. However when I drive farther away from buildings like for example on an intercity highway, then the issue stops. Another funny thing is that the very same iPhone works perfectly well with CarPlay when wired to an Opel Insignia (General Motors). On the other side, both iPhone 8 and iPhone XS work flawlessly well through wireless CarPlay in the Mini.

Could it be an interference having to do with the Wi-Fi radio in iPhone 11 Pro trying to identify every single router within range? Just guessing... mainly because of the issue happening to me only when I drive not far away from buildings.

I reported it to Apple about three weeks ago. They said they didn’t have any report on this yet, which is not completely true (some of you reported it earlier). About a week later they asked me for a picture of the car’s head unit, which I immediately provided them with. No news from them ever since.

Same issue here been like this since September not funny at all and Also it is worse when I'm am in a built up area or close to buildings. this issue could be something to do with interference ! Just wish Apple would

sort this out I have reported it to Apple and left feedback like Apple told me to about this issue. it can’t be just small amount people this is happening too got be everyone who has CarPlay and Apple pro phone ! So everyone needs to report this issue to there dealership and Apple and just keep doing it every week if needs be to get this matter sorted if u had a faulty tv you would take it back and get refund if couldn’t fix it

I’m in the uk 🇬🇧 and my mini dealer know about this issue but said there is nothing they can do Because it’s a phone issue and till Apple do some sort of update to sort this out nothing Will change :( and at the minute don’t think Apple care about it this is a safety issue when driving and on call because when CarPlay drops the call your looking at your phone when driving because u can hear the person you was talking too on the phone put not CarPlay till it carplay kicks back !!!

I have been having the identical issues since September that everyone has been discussing in this forum. I have a Mini Cooper 2019 and am using the iPhone 11 Pro. I have a ticket opened with Apple, and have sent them logs from my phone. Like many of you, Apple has in no way acknowledged that this is a known issue that many others are facing, so that is quite frustrating.

I did discover yesterday that Mini Cooper has a firmware update for their radio. The link to the website to download the firmware is https://www.mini.com/connectivity. Unfortunately, even after installing this firmware update, the problem persists with the dropouts and disconnected phone calls. In fact, the problem seems even worse.

I have another meeting scheduled with Apple on Saturday morning to give them additional logs from my phone.

As I read all the responses to my initial thread back in Sept, I see a lot of people having the same issues with their Wireless Carplay, My personal vehicle is a Mini Cooper, but some of you are experiencing with different Makes and Models. I see a lot of speculation wondering if it happens in rural areas, or congested areas. If it's happening wired or wireless. Bottom line is, after all the research, I've done. All of my time spent with Mini Technicians and Apple Technicians, It is still happening, It doesn't matter how you initially installed your phone, from new or a backup, or if you have it plugged in or using the wireless pad, if your using cellular data or not, I've been in crowded cities, and far out in the country where there's not a sole for miles... and it still happens, I update every time a new one comes out. that's hasn't helped. I listen to XM now, I automatically pick up my phone when it rings... This is not how Carplay is advertised to work. we are going on 5 months with no change or the possibility of a light at the end of a tunnel. I contact everyone I can think of, Replaced phone, flashed my Car's ECU, updated firmware in my car and up-to-date IOS. It's discouraging to come back to this thread and seeing nothing has changed. All I can say is get on the phone with your apple rep, call

Apple Direct

One Infinite Loop, Cupertino, CA 95014

Phone: (408) 606-5775 and try to get to Iphone research.

we need an answer, tell me it's a specific chip, or the case it too thick, say something... give me hope....

I'm not going backwards to my X, I dont want to go to the competition LG etc.. I just want my car to work as advertised...
