Iphone 11 Pro & Carplay

I just upgraded from an Iphone X to Iphone 11 Pro. IOS 13.0 and now my Carplay sounds like an old Vinyl record with a scratch. playing music from the Phone skips randomly 5-15 seconds then skips again. I've reset the phone, I've erased the phone and just put 1 album on it, no luck. , updated to 13.1 and no change it still skips. My old Iphone X running 13.1 works perfectly. It's so bad I listen to XM now. and don't use my carplay to listen to music. My vehicle is a 2019 Mini Cooper JCW, I've had the dealership reset the ECU, any other ideas would be wonderful....

Did a a Google search to see if anyone was having a similar problem and found this. I just upgraded to an iPhone 11 Pro Max (from 8+) and my CarPlay is skipping now. Maybe not as much as yours as it’s only a few times a song, but it’s annoying. Our car is also a 2019 JCW Mini.

I rented a VW Passat for the holidays that has CarPlay via USB Cable. There were no issues with my iPhone 11 Pro. Some folks thought that the issue is with the manufacturer’s entertainment equipment but I wonder how VW got it right?

Also, I rented a Ford Explorer two weeks ago that had CarPlay via USB and there were no issues, however, I can’t seem to enjoy CarPlay in my 2019 Mini Cooper JCW. What a bummer!

Chiming in here. Experiencing skipping issues with wireless CarPlay on my 2020 Mini Cooper S and my iPhone 11 Pro. I have called a Mini service center, and the rep replied that they’ve been receiving a ton of complaints from iPhone users and that it is a software/hardware issue from Apple. I have contacted Apple Support and should be receiving a call from a “Senior Advisor” today. I also just purchase a pack of short USB wires, so I assume I’ll be plugged in for a while until this sorts out.

This is happening with who ever has CarPlay and what ever car they have and if you have Apple pro 11 phone I'm working with Apple doing test on my phone and reporting issues all

the time it’s nothing to do with the dealership the issue is to do with the CarPlay and the Apple pro !!!! So u need to get Apple support to get you to work with the technical guys who will work with you to sort this out by recording the logs from your phone on this issue

Interesting feedback roberac. Glad it is working for you. A couple of quick questions: do you live in a urban environment (city or suburbs)? Do you have data roaming turned on or off? Do you have any other wireless devices in the car (e.g. Apple watch).

Some of us here are speculating it is a wifi interference issue (including me), but others claim they have the same issue in other cars that do not use wireless Carplay at all.

I had this issue with my 2017 Nissan Maxima (have to plug USB for carplay). I initially did not have this issue when I first purchased the car back in November 2019 then when I got it back from the dealership (to fix a window issue) That is when I noticed the horrible music skipping. It got worse when I had googlemaps and spotify running at the same time. So within the last week I decided to clear my Bluetooth devices and try it again. So far I haven't had any music skipping problems since removing my device from Bluetooth connectivity (I did not add the phone back to the car) and that has been for a week now. If anything changes I will post again.

Most of us on this thread including the original post are experiencing/reporting the problem with respect to WIRELESS CarPlay, not wired CarPlay. Unfortunately, your response doesn't apply to us nor explain why the problem is experienced by wireless CarPlay users with no USB connection. FWIW, I'm up to IOS 13.3.1 with no resolution yet.

As I read all the responses to my initial thread back in Sept, I see a lot of people having the same issues with their Wireless Carplay, My personal vehicle is a Mini Cooper, but some of you are experiencing with different Makes and Models. I see a lot of speculation wondering if it happens in rural areas, or congested areas. If it's happening wired or wireless. Bottom line is, after all the research, I've done. All of my time spent with Mini Technicians and Apple Technicians, It is still happening, It doesn't matter how you initially installed your phone, from new or a backup, or if you have it plugged in or using the wireless pad, if your using cellular data or not, I've been in crowded cities, and far out in the country where there's not a sole for miles... and it still happens, I update every time a new one comes out. that's hasn't helped. I listen to XM now, I automatically pick up my phone when it rings... This is not how Carplay is advertised to work. we are going on 5 months with no change or the possibility of a light at the end of a tunnel. I contact everyone I can think of, Replaced phone, flashed my Car's ECU, updated firmware in my car and up-to-date IOS. It's discouraging to come back to this thread and seeing nothing has changed. All I can say is get on the phone with your apple rep, call

we need an answer, tell me it's a specific chip, or the case it too thick, say something... give me hope....

I'm not going backwards to my X, I dont want to go to the competition LG etc.. I just want my car to work as advertised...

From observation what does make a difference is where the phone is. If it's in front of the cup holders it's generally fine. If I leave the phone in my pocket or have it on the passenger seat it's crap.

The chance that Apple doesn't know about this is 0% and the chance that there's a simple fix is 0%.

The fact that Apple hasn't said anything about it is crazy.

Hopefully they fix it by the iPhone 12 or by the time my lease is up.

I wondered if there was any commonality and or differences that could be highlighted between all those that have the problem and those (very few) who don’t.

For a start are there any who have the problem, and have posted here, living and using an iPhone 11 Pro in the UK ?

Is there any significant difference between an iPhone 11 Pro sold in the UK and the US ?

I know my phone (I’m in the UK) uses 4G and not 4G LTE, there is a difference I understand but I can’t comment on whether or not that is a factor here.

I reported this issue to Apple months ago. After being given the run-around and being told that nobody else had reported an issue, I finally spoke to a representative who admitted that the iPhone 11 was having lots of problems with bluetooth, that they were aware of the CarPlay issue, and that it was being looked into. They arranged to take analytics from my phone, which they did, and they told me that would be my point person and that they would keep me updated. I've heard nothing from them, and they don't return my emails.

After some months, I am really disappointed with this case. I have raised a ticket with apple support, had some calls and never heard back from them again. With every OS update I keep the hope to have this issue fixed but unfortunately it doesn't. I haver tried every possible workaround (reset, setup as new iPhone, updated my car's firmware, etc.) but nothing seems to fix. I even complained in twitter mentioning apple and BMW but not a single reply from them.

It is very annoying and even dangerous to have calls dropped out, without mentioning the problem with music playback that constantly breaks... many times, not even a single song is fully played without breaking.

Simply it is not the supposed behavior from such a expensive device. In Mexico, it costs 30% more than in the US and even with less features not available in the region.

I am heavily considering to ditch my iphone 11 pro but I will try to get my money back first from this people.....

Sad owner of an iPhone 11 pro and a Mini Cooper 2019....

Jan 20, 2020 11:23 AM in response to Hector Dzib

I have reported this to Apple through the feedback app at least daily since October 2019. Not only have I never gotten a response, emails to support have been ignored. Several times I’ve called and been told they have never heard of this issue, which I know is a lie.

it would be one thing to just admit they’re having a hard time, but to just pretend the issue doesn’t exist is disgraceful from a company this large.

accountability is clearly not a core value at Apple
