Apple Watch 6 battery draining in Watch OS 7.6.2

I did not have any issues with battery in watch os 7.5, or 7.6, but since I went to 7.6.1, 50% of the life is gone. Meaning my battery used to last from 7am until 10pm, without doing a workout or streaming music. By 10pm it would be about 35%, now it goes from 100% to 50% in like 4 hours.

If the battery drains too fast after an update, see all the replies to:

FWIW, in some cases, unpairing the watch, completely erasing it, then pairing and restoring the backup will resolve the battery draining issue after an update. (Simply unpairing and pairing again may not work.)

Also, some people have found that simply waiting a few days after an update resolves the battery draining problem.

I had a phone call with an “advanced” tech and he confirmed me that 99% of the battery drain issues are coming from the software, and can affect also the iPhone (this is my case, battery health dropped to 88 and 90, from 96, on both), since the constantly talk togheter. I had another contact later, as they opened a ticket, and they remotely took control of my iPhone, but just to check settings. They are “monitoring” the situation but honestly don’t know if it’s really usefull or not.

For what it's worth, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, I too was having the battery drain issue immediately after upgrading to 7.6.2. However, doing a full reset seems to have fixed it.

That said, I'm in no hurry to upgrade to 8.0. I have no doubt there's some regressions in 8.0 and I'll let the earlier adopters work those out.

it seems that this is a planned obsolescence, I have an AW 4-44mm GPS and my problems of battery draining started from watch OS 7.6

Now I updated to OS8, I did a full reset as new watch, as also the iphone I use (updated to IOS 15) but the problem is still the same, the life of my battery is about 10 hours without do anything, I see the hour just few time in the morning and the dispaly is always off.

I was in an apple store for a check but the operators told me that the battery has no problem, it has 86% of quality life and the watch did not have problem related to the software, but the life of it now is about 10 hours, it is very incredible!! The watch has 2 years and half, not so old.

It is not soo good to spend 470€ and after two years the watch is unusable, APPLE please.......

My issue seems to have worked itself out. I did two things.

1. I left it alone for days. Battery was dying so fast it was of no use to me on my wrist. I charged it and forgot about it for 2 days. Maybe it was updating something but I have my doubts. It had over a week to sort out any maintenance it needed to do after the updates.

2. I changed one setting. Under FaceID and settings I made sure that Unlock with Apple Watch was ON. It used to be on but appears to have flipped off during the updates. I checked this setting because of all of the issues I am hearing about this and the new iPhone. While my iPhone is currently not new I figured it’s worth checking. Strangely it was off.

it is now 11 hours later and my watch still has 54% charge.

I'll add my voice to the conversation. I've noticed battery issues for a while (maybe 2-3 months?). My battery health is just over 90%, but it seems like I have to charge it a few times a day for continued use. Upgrading to WatchOS 8 didn't help.

Today I completely reset the watch and re-paired it to my iPhone. I have fewer apps installed, but still noticing that with almost no use the battery went from 100% to 90% in less than an hour. Perhaps it will settle down after a few hours of being setup again, but I'm thinking the battery will need replacing after just 13 months of use. Not good.

Good luck with that. I sent by phone in for the battery to be replaced since that is what the tech I talked to said was the problem. I got the phone back quickly which was great but the note attaches said they couldn’t duplicate the problem and sent it back with no action taken.

a totally awesome experience considering the expense for this watch and the fact that a new battery costs a $92. Now I wait to have them put the money back into my account. Great customer service Apple!!!

Update: Re-pairing the watch definitely improved my battery life. I will say I have not tested it yet under heavy exercise, but there is an improvement. Since I did a total reset, I also paired down a few of the apps I installed to the watch, removing a few unnecessary one. So whether it was the act of resetting the watch with a fresh install of WatchOS 8 or eliminating some power hungry app, this did work for me.
