Where’s the option to enable it ANYWAY?
I specifically bought this iPhone for the ALWAYS ON Display, obviously Apple doesn’t actually “know” when I don’t need it - because I keep noticing it being turned off when I wanted it on! Which is, ALWAYS!!
I noticed this as well. I just got my phone 14 pro max and I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and I realized that after looking at my always on display it turns off in about 15 minutes.
Thats not what the "always on display" supposed to do.
I really hope they fix this because always on display is a really good feature and im about two seconds away from switching back to android after being with iphone for 10 years
Apple, please fix this issue! I’ve just purchased a 14 pro and have it run in iOS 16.6. I have seen the lists in this thread but none of the situations apply to my situation. My phone is just lying facing up, no do not disturb or any other mode switched on and the AOD keeps turning off after about 30 seconds. I’m really disappointed because I intended to use the AOD as an alternative bedside clock. Please make sure the AOD is ALWAYS ON.
Probably my issue is related to the Sleep Focus setting. I do have this turned on because I don’t want calls or texts coming in (except emergency contacts) at night. However, I do want to be able to look at my phone that is charging on my nightstand and be able to see the time. I can understand why some people would not want this and they should be able to turn off the “always on” display feature, but I want the display on ( at an appropriately dim night setting) when I have specifically set my iPhone 14 pro max to have the display always on. Sleep mode should not automatically disregard this setting.
More often than not, my AOD is in fact not always on. It also will randomly turn on (not due to any event like a notification) only to turn off moments later. The marquee feature of the iPhone 14 is broken.
I hope this is fixed in iOS 17.More often than not, my AOD is in fact not always on. It also will randomly turn on (not due to any event like a notification) only to turn off moments later. The marquee feature of the iPhone 14 is broken.
I hope this is fixed in iOS 17.
Does everyone here who has issues with the AOD also have an Apple Watch?
It seems my iPhone AOD tends to remain on when I am not wearing my Apple Watch. I’m wondering if the algorithm that determines proximity is wrong. (If you have an Apple Watch, the AOD is supposed to turn off when you leave the room. It could be incorrectly determining our proximity to our iPhone.)
This sadly seems to still be an issue as my AOD continues to turn off on my new 15 pro max with 17.0.2 installed. It clearly seems to be due to the algorithm it uses to decided when to turn it off anyway as the ambient light seems to affect it. None of the stated possible reasons applies. Very frustrating that the always on display turna off by itself so often when not desired.
I did a clean install of iOS 17 without restoring from backup. So far, my AOD has remained on. (On iOS 16, it seemed to be off for the majority of my waking hours.) It’s also entirely plausible that not enough time has passed for the algorithm to screw with the AOD.
Hope it works for you! For me I'm mostly having problem with AOD turning off when I turn off the lights, then it turns off in 30 seconds even if I had just put it down. If I turn on the lights then it no longer turns off. I wish there was just an option to keep AOD, like, always on, no matter what.
I turned Standby completely off. I don’t use the feature. I’ll see if that fixes it. I had this problem on iOS 16 (which didn’t have standby) as well.
The lowlight explanation seems logical. This problem usually crops up in the evening (but with sufficient ambient light). I haven’t paid close attention to say it never happens during the day.
Always On Display worked perfectly on my iPhone 14 Pro Max until I installed iOS 16.2. (It has gotten worse with iOS 17, by the way.) Now it keeps going black just seconds after I set it down. I have checked the Apple list of circumstances and conditions under which the display is designed to turn off automatically, and none of those apply here—I never changed any settings or behaviors.
I am having the same issue from the moment I installed iOS 17 on my iPhone 14 pro max , it worked fine for me on iOS 16. Apple have completely ruined always on display, i contacted apple support a million times , they have no idea how to fix it and their solution everytime seems to be " wait for next update" . It baffles me that a feature that has the word "always" in it doesn't stay always on. My iPhone is like one of those cheap Chinese ripoffs of iphones that you buy for 50$ at wish.com. I am just waiting for S24 ultra to switch from this useless phone.
Yes I have noticed this exact thing: at night it decides to start turning off on its own.
Yes. Did you read what I posted? None those reasons apply.
I don’t have that issue because I have an iPhone 14 Pro and the Always On Display works fine
This is not a meaningful or useful response.
