iOS 17.5 was fantastic in terms of battery. battery drain was 10% for every hour. (according to my use). as soon as I updated to iOS 17.5.1 there was drastic drop in battery life as now my battery goes from 80% to 15% in 3 hours ( same usage)

Am using 14 plus and facing battery drain issue after updating the IOS from 17.4 to 17.5.1. Last week the battery life was 98% now it shows 96%. This update drains the battery quickly and every day I need to charge my phone twice and earlier I used to charge only one time a day.

Apple team, please look into this battery drain issue

I experience the exact same development.

My max battery capacity dropped a few percent with the update and it drains insanely fast now. Funnily enough I just started using my phone less than ever before (basically only listening to music for like 1hr every other day) and the battery still drains faster than before.

I don't know why people answer you to claim it's not because of the update or to even claim that the update had the opposite effects on their devices. Those answers are condescending and not helping with the problem.

On top of all that I also stopped receiving any notifications ever since the update. No settings are changed.

I feel like there has to be something seriously wrong with the update.

in my opinion ios 17.5.1 is an excellent updation and good battery backup , space increased, system speed increased and overall performance improvements.

Actually I was running 17.4 in my iPhone 15 about 3 months after I purchased my phone I think my battery health would drop after updation but it was not such .

in my opinion everyone can update it

very good battary backup and performance.!!!

It is definitely the update for my phone.I have an iPhone SE 2nd GEN and keep my phone on what I refer to as lockdown. I have no running apps refreshing in the background, I do not have my email turned on so when I need to check it I turned it on go and check all my emails and turn the Mac off, I don't leave any browser windows open when I'm done with a browser I close it completely, etc. The only difference before the update and after the update is the update. I see the battery draining before my eyes. I understand when updates are done be it an app or an ios update, it continues to work so for a little while the battery drains more often however, I have never seen this happen on my phone or any iPhone I have ever owned. I even turn off my phone at night as I do not need to leave it on. My iPhones last forever in excellent working condition. I have no doubt that it is this update that has affected my phone. I'll see how it goes the next couple of days otherwise, I will wipe it and do a back up upload prior to this update for the fist time ever. If someone at Apple is listening which I sometimes doubt, perhaps they might want to look into this matter. All the best, D PS stop pushing apps and face gallery etc. on my Apple watch too. Consumers don't like having things forced upon them and everybody has their breaking point. As much as I dislike android phones when I walk away from Apple after a lifetime of loyalty,I will never walk back. Cheers to all!

Three separate iPhone models in our household. ALL experiencing horrible drain after updating to 17.5.1. Apple please DO NOT respond with the standard "applications are indexing" after the update. This is now over a week later, all phones on 24/7 so applications have long since indexed and been updated. This is clearly an IOS issue. Regardless of model. The models are:

iPhone 14 Pro

iPhone 13 Pro

iPhone XS

No Max version of any of them. All using standard services of wifi and bluetooth. No hours of TikTok or YouTube. One of them is purely a work phone and sites idle 90% of the time. That last one has seen its battery life cut in half, just sitting on a desk.

How is this still a thing?!

Since iOS 17.5.1 update, my iPhone 15 pro battery is draining at 4-5% per hour rate in Standby mode (Overall standby time for fully charged phone is < 24 hours). It doesn't matter even if i turn off all background refreshing and turn On power saving mode. I hope Apple will look into this in time. It is very very frustating to spend over 1500 Euros on a phone with < 24hour standby battery. Before this update my device was draining battery around 1-1.5% per hour in standby. My current battery health is 100% (135 cycles), but it seems this update will greatly damage the battery. I wish we could have an option to swtch back to previous stable iOS versions.

To test the ios17.5.1 explicitly, I reset my phone, signed in with new apple id and used it as a new phone without any third party app or additional settings. The phone kept draining at 4-5% per hour rate.. This confirmed either the iOS version is having problem (as phone worked fine with iOS 17.5) or my phone's hardware got some issue. FYI battery health is showing 100%.

It surely is not after iOS 17.5.1 because...

I conducted a thorough search of this forum and uncovered numerous posts detailing similar issues across various iOS updates. This suggests that iOS updates may not consistently be the root cause. Below are a handful of examples extracted from the search results:

The links I've found suggest that the reason for battery drain may not be solely due to iOS updates, but rather, it could be influenced by how an iPhone is utilized.

As I commented yesterday, my internet ( on cellular) drops constantly. So much so my phone is basically useless. Come tues I’m turning in my iPhone 12 for something other than an apple product. I’m not a believer in upgrading phones to keep up with technology. What a scam! If you are going to issue new updates, you NEED to put a disclaimer saying that older models performance may be affected. I live in some what remote ( near a tower however!) area and rely and pay for unlimited data. I expected better from APPLE!

Listen SravanKrA!

iOS updates often cause issues with battery drain. Apple has even had to pay out millions of dollars as part of a class action lawsuit that involved them purposely slowing down older phones. I am not saying this is the same as "BatteryGate" but it is absolutely due to the 17.5.1 update. All of our devices are now showing considerably less battery capacity and batter drain right after the update. Mine was at 99% battery capacity prior to the update and is now 91% after the update. Nothing, Zero, Nada has changed as far as usage or habits with our devices. My phone used to last me two days with power to spare but now I am lucky to make it through an 8 hour day without plugging in. Whether done purposefully or accidentally is was done by the update and there is a plethora of witnesses and evidence to attest to that fact.

It's not always the iOS update's fault!  Many things can cause phone problems.  If you tell people you think it's an iOS update, it might make it harder to fix or find a solution for the real issue.

Remember, the right question often leads to the solution! Please look in the right direction.

iOS updates aim to enhance user experience, boost security, and fix bugs rather than disrupt core features. The majority of the issues after updates might stem from underlying, unmentioned factors. Updates won't typically alter personal data but may refine settings or features. Backup before major updates for safety. Review Apple's update details and backup advice for a smooth process.

Kindly consider checking your settings and addressing any device issues before attributing the issue to external factors. This could be a pure coincidence that the iOS update affected the iPhone functions.

Before initiating a standard iOS update, it's advisable to create a backup. Have you completed this step? If yes, proceed with the restoration from the backup.
