How to restore mobile data functionality post iOS 17.4.1 update

So my phone just updated automatically in the night as usual but now I cannot connect to anything. I’ve done all the resets you can think of to fix it and my WiFi just won’t work and even my mobile data won’t work properly??? Has this happened for anyone else?? I don’t know how to fix it at this point I might have to take it to someone to try fix it…

My phone auto updated overnight - cellular data is broken. None of the config change suggestions work. I am on work travel with only my work laptop till Sunday - which I cannot use to back up my phone via USB cable. Is the total wipeout and restore the only solution anyone has come up with? Where is Apple - this issue has been ongoing for over a month from the posts I have seen.

I lost access with ios 17.3.1 and iphone message was update iphone software to fix. This was problematic as it kept hanging on verifying update. Downloaded the update on Windows 11 pc using iTunes. Performed update successfully to ios 17.4.1 but still getting error and cannot connect. Australian user using Telstra 5G/4G network.

Come on apple this is getting ridiculous. Cannot see how it cannot be software related; the only common factor here is IOS!!!!

It surely is not iOS 17.4.1 because...

I conducted a thorough search of this forum using the term 'WiFi after iOS' and uncovered numerous posts detailing similar issues across various iOS updates. This suggests that iOS updates may not consistently be the root cause. Below are a handful of examples extracted from over 4,000 search results:

"After iOS 17.4.1" will be an addition to this list posted by you.

It surely IS a problem by IOS. My phone was working completely fine until it updated to 17.4.1 (21E236). My cellular data just show LTE now !!! And the only way I can access internet now is by Wi-Fi ! I paid for this piece of… I expect optimalised and tested updates. Not updates that ruin the most basic functions of my phone. Gonna switch to Android asap.

After Speaking to Apple and AT&T for a few hours and trying many of the same solutions that people suggested:

  • Airplane mode
  • Restart Phone
  • Reset Network settings
  • Refresh Connection (AT&T Dashboard)
  • Delete eSIM and add new eSIM

I was told that factory reset may be the only possible option, and it seems to have worked>

I deleted all data but kept the eSIM and then restored from the most recent iCloud backup. As the backup is now populating the data back onto the device I was successfully able to make an outgoing call, and my number shows up in the iMessage settings as before.

Strange, because the iOS is still 17.4.1,

BUT THIS SEEMED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

Yes, mine too! I had deleted all of my saved Bluetooth devices only to find out that under IOS 17.4.1 none of my Bluetooth devices will connect to my iPhone 12 Pro Max! I was in a medical facility this morning and one of their Bluetooth enabled TVs and my iPhone was able to sync up. Strange thing is that the device never showed in my sync'd list???? the DEVICES search cursor just keeps spinning!

i believe the latest iOS releases are blocking certain frequencies and network IDs being exchanged with your cellular service provider. That is why, iPhone keeps searching for cellular service.

I fixed this issue by getting the latest physical SIM from my cellular service provider and inserting it in my iPhone. If your iPhone supports eSIM, delete it and revert back to latest physical SIM.

hope this helps!

same situation for me. no imessages, calls, or using my phone off wifi besides standard text messages - after my phone automatically updated 17.4.1 overnight.

i've tried airplane mode, turning cellular on and off, reset network settings, i get the pop-up to update carrier settings, i click update, and nothing happens. i've tried 15x. turned on and off, tried again. still nothing.

it's been >24 hours now, when i contacted both apple and AT&T all they could tell was my phone was "trying to verify and would connect with my carrier within 24 hours."

…. and since the update I’m finding that the appearance of mail has changed negatively on both the iPad and the iPhone. In particular, when I press to reply to an incoming email, the reply window that comes up is now a small window within the original screen. I find that if I press on the 3 dots at the top of the reply window I can select ‘full screen’, but I don’t want to have to do this every time, and when my reply has been sent, it reverts to the small window next time! Also, the text size of the incoming message is smaller than it used to be. Now Apple, this, and all the other problems which people are mentioning, certainly need to be sorted out. Sent from my iPad
